Help on getting help from manuals
Hi, A number of people have suggested "I read the manuals"... Could someone help me by telling me where the primary start point is please? For example, I am interested in writing functions with variable number of arguments - where should I start to look? "An introduction to R" only show a brief example - with no pointer to where to find further data. I can't do ?xxx

installing/running Monkey Island 3 and 4
I have problems running Monkey Island 3 here. Installing it works fine, but the problems comes when trying to run it. When pressing "Play Game" (I think that's what the button says), the program just wants to install DirectX 5.0. I guess that trying to install it is NOT an option, when you're using wine. Second, installing Monkey Island 4 is not successful, because you have this

[LLVMdev] PredicateSimplifier questions
PredicateSimplifier is a pretty interesting pass, but it doesn't look like opt invokes it at any standard -Ox level, and so I assume that llvm-gcc also does not use this pass? If that is right, I'm curious about why this is the case -- does it simply not provide enough code speedup to compensate for the increase in compile time? Also, a colleague and I (we both teach advanced

Octagon Coding
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Dear Celts, I've become intrigued by the problem of spherical quantizers, so I decided to see if I could come up with something better than PVQ. What I wound up writing is something I call an "octagon quantizer. In two dimensions, PVQ uses a "diamond" (square) shape. An octagon code (OVQ) uses an octagon, which is a much better

strange echo problem
We have a strange echo problem. Maybe echo isn't the correct term. When we make a call f/ a SIP phone (we have several 7960's, some 3coms, and I've even tried a softphone, all on the same 100BaseTX network) to the pstn, if the person I'm calling has a PRI or channelized T1 f/ Bell, then the sound is perfect, couldn't be better. If I make a call to a person with a plain POTS
