How can I get .xsession-errors back?
I did some research and see a LOT of folks would love to get rid of
their .xsession-errors file and I'm in the opposite situation -- where
is mine? Do I have to install or enable something special to get this back.
All my users are starting X with startx and the default .xinitrc. Is
this the problem?

Waking up X
I just finished installing CentOS 5 (again)... and I'm having trouble
with my X config (I _think_).
If I 'startx' then switch to a console (using CTRL+ALT+F*) and then
back to X (CTRL+ALT+F7), 1/2 the time it comes back, the other half I
get a black screen and I can never recover the session.
X is still running (CTRL+ALT+Backspace kills it) but there seems to be
some type of power

XCP graphical display on VM
Hi All,
I plan to use Xen (most probably XCP) to virtualize
two servers: one running OpenBSD, the other running FreeBSD.
These both servers will be running more or less headless (at least
without any graphical environment). I would want
to add a third server (most probably a Debian Squeeze or Freebsd)
to have a desktop (light, probably IceWM or XFCE).
The physical machine will have VTx but

CentOS 6: Making KDE Default
I learned from Anne that if I boot to level
5, after I enter the username, can select
Gnome or KDE. I note that the default is
always Gnome.
How can I make the default KDE?
How can I get KDE with startx after booting to level 3?
Thanks,
Mike.

missing X11 graphics title bar
I have on occasion had the problem of missing title bars on X11
graphics windows when using R, and would like to know what others have
found in terms of the occurance, source, or solution of this problem.
In searching for information on this I found only the brief thread
from last November which I have copied below. Anyone who has
experienced this knows it brings a very unwelcome interruption to

how to troubleshoot GUI issue?
Hello,
I'm using a recent install of centos 7, no GUI customizations that I
recall. When I log in using the GUI it accepts my password and the mouse
appears on a black screen, like it is preparing the desktop, but the
desktop never appears. If I hit control-alt-f4 and log in using the command
line, and then execute startx, Everything seems to work perfectly.
What sort of troubleshooting

Running another gnome or kde on virtual console
Hi,
I'm still new in linux world and CentOS is my 2nd linux desktop I ever used ( have used it for month now, before using Ubuntu for 2 days ), so please gave me a little favor on it :)
What I need to do is to have my virtual console that can also run gnome or kde, so I can have different windows on different virtual console. After googling, I found the qingy that just fit for my need.

Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings broken under xen 3.0.3-142.el5_9.1 / 2.6.18-348.1.1.el5xen?
I am not sure what I did, but for some reason Ctrl-Alt-F? bindings are
broken on 64-bit xen desktop machine (but not on my laptop (32-bit, no
xen)). Both machines are (mostly) up-to-date and running CentOS 5.9.
I rarely hop to different Virtual Consoles (eg Ctrl-Alt-F1 ...
Ctrl-Alt-F7), but today I wanted to go to the main console to watch
some kernel verbage (I was checking something with

switching back to Xorg from a terminal fails
Since I use latests Nvidia beta drivers, Xorg 7.1 and Compiz 0.3.2 from
Freedesktop, I have been having problem when I switch back to X from another
terminal.
For example, I startx and launch Compiz without problems, everythings works
fine, then I need to switch to another terminal, so I use Ctrl+Alt+F2. When
I switch back to X with Ctrl+Alt+F7, I get a blank screen where I can only

Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Hello,
I''m doing my first steps with Xen and have my first domU up now
(Debian/sid under Debian/sid).
The main problem I had, was to bring up the graphical desktop of the
guest with vnc4server. The solution was simple - but not easy to find
for me - so let me share it:
Whenever I tried to login on xdm or gdm via xvnc4viewer coming from
dom0, I found errors in .xsession-errors of

real_rip variable addition for dovecot 2.1.10
Timo,
Please check the code. I didn't add it, but a real_lip might be useful
for some people as well. Also, I notice that pop3-proxy is doing a
different xsession than the imap proxy. Is there an xsession standard
that is different between the two, or just an oversight in the code?
Both send the remote address/port, but only imap proxy sends the local
address/port.

C6, lightweight window managers - opinions?
So, on my old Netbook, now happily running C6.9, I'm looking for opinions
for a lightweight window manager. Gnome surely ain't it....
Years back, I used to like IceWM, but not sure it's been kept up.
So, opinions?

CentOS4 Loop at shutdown
Has anyone else encountered a loop and failure to shutdown on CentOS4?
This has occurred twice in the past month, but unfortunately I failed
to write down the looping messages. The only relevant problems I found
via Google reference raid controllers, and I have POI (plain ol' IDE).
Doh! Obviously I wuill need to record the errors.
My environment is run-level 5 with GDM, but I use IceWm

Re: libvirt beginner needs to create and start VMs entirely on command line
This is offtopic, but related to what you’ve told me so far. I’m having some trouble getting the VNC connection to work. Technically, the “connection” is working fine, but the Windows TightVNC Viewer comes up with an error dialog saying this:
Xsession: unable to start X session --- no "/home/.../.xsession" file, no
"/home/.../.Xsession" file, no session managers, no window

Where is .xsession-errors
Hi
Yesterday I was using OpenOffice Impress, doing many cut/paste
operations with images, and without any notice/message/warning the
application die. Then I look for ~/.xsession-errors file to see any
signal about the problem, but I realized that ~/.xsession-errors is no
longer present.
This is a new behaviour of X.org ?
I'm running CentOS 4 and
