Prototype error. replace content inside a <TR> in IE
Does anyone know of a fix for the issue with prototype and replacing table rows in IE? render :update do |page| page.replace "row_#{params[:id]}", :partial => ''wireless_request/wrequest'', :locals => {:wrequest => @wrequest} end This ends up making IE throw an "rjs error [object error]" Searching around I found a couple of posts about

swifty fly?
I heard about a new mongrel plugin or version that''s single threaded and uses non-blocking IO with events. It''s called something like "swifty fly". Anyone have a link for it? Thanks.

Don''t un-admin the last administrator
I have a User class with a field called admin which is a boolean that determines if the user is or is not an administrator. I want to make it impossible for the last administrator for an account to be removed from the system. I need to protect against this both when deleting a user and when editing a user as you can revoke a user''s administrator privileges via a form. User

SQL Search Qustion
I am working on writing a search method where a user can type a string of words and I return all the objects that have fields that match all of the words in one or a combination of fields. Person first_name last_name Pet name Person has_many :pets I want to write some SQL so that if I search for "Tony AAAA" I will get all the people who have Tony and AAA either in their

[Semi OT] BlindDown and a floated div
I am using the drop shadow technique described at http://www.1976design.com/blog/archive/2003/11/14/shadows/ to give several of my divs drop shadows. That part works fine. What doesn''t work so well is when I try to BlindDown a div in Firefox and it ends up ignoring the content below it and just overlapping it. In IE this problem does not occur. In Firefox the overlapping does

Which Payment Gateway?
I am working on an application where users sign up for one of several plans. Each plan has a different monthly fee. There is no long term contract but I would like to bill the users automatically each month unless service is canceled. What credit card gateways would you recommend for use with a rails application? My criteria in order of importance are 1. API that will let me work in

Scalable alternative to #find_all
Is there any scalable alternative to iterating all the records of a certain model? #find_all seems to load everything into memory. With 500.000 records it will be a swap storm. Pedro.

multi threaded theoretically useful?
So here''s a random question: if a (Ruby) multi-threaded rails server could exist (bug free), would it be faster than using a mongrel cluster? (I.e. 10 mongrel processes versus 10 Ruby threads). I''m not sure if it would. RAM it might save, though. Any thoughts? -Roger -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

Keeping attributes of two models in sync
Hi, I have a Product and a corresponding Keyword (1:1 via belongs_to and has_one). I want to ensure, that two attributes (:name) of the two models alway stay in sync. What''s the easiest way to accomplish that? I did play around with before_/after_save hooks and with AR::Observers but in the end I''d always get infinite recursion... Thanks, Timo

libevent
Hello, I have been looking at the Ruby/EventMachine. First let me say it look very good. Reactor model with no threads makes for fast reliable server, and I have read about marvelous Twisted framework for Python and am glad to see something similar for Ruby. I am writing network app with Ruby threads now and it very slow, and I try new Ruby 1.9 with native threads that make it much slower.

mongrel becoming unresponsive
Hello, I''m running mongrel behind apache via proxypass. Every now and then, a spammer tries to proxy traffic through apache, and for some reason, apache forwards the request to mongrel, even though it''s not a site being hosted by me. At times this seems to cause mongrel to become unresponsive, and all requests to the site then fail with a proxy error until mongrel is

Mongrel and memory usage
Hello, I''m running a Rails application which must sort and manipulate a lot of data which are loaded in memory. The Rails app runs on 2 mongrel processes. When I first load the app, both are 32Mb in memory. After some days, both are between 200Mb and 300Mb. My question is : is there some kind of garbage collector in Mongrel? I never see the two Mongrel processes memory footprint

Best practice Ruby on Rails on Windows configuration
Hi, I have read many articles on the net today about configuring Ruby on Rails on a Windows server. But there doesn''t seem to a one solution for all on how to configure a new Ruby on Rails server. So I can use some advise with this. I am using a Windows 2003 server and don''t get many request a day. But most of the request are quite heavy. The main focus is on optimizing the

ImageScience, Mini-Magick and RMagick
I''m going to be generating thumbnails from user uploaded images. I''m looking around at the libraries available to do this sort of thing and there are three that look promising. ImageScience -- http://seattlerb.rubyforge.org/ImageScience.html Mini-Magick -- http://rubyforge.org/projects/mini-magick/ RMagick -- http://rmagick.rubyforge.org/ It looks like a lot of people are

epoll increasing latency big time
Sorry this is going to be a bit vague, but I''ve noticed something rather odd going on with EventMachine on Linux. I''ve written something uses EventMachine to proxy HTTP to other processes. On OS X, it works great, adding only about 20% extra latency into the connection when proxying versus connecting to the original backend process directly, so a 5ms connection might now take

balancer://mongrel_cluster
A couple of questions please: What is the benefit of having more than one Mongrel/Rails instance on the same machine, could one instance not serve as many requests as say three instances? Is Mongrel Cluster a Apache add-in (like mod_*) or a separately running load balancer which runs on a separate port, I could not work it out from the sample Apache config... |# Redirect all non-static

:include breaks has_many :order
It would appear that using :include on a model that has_many with an :order on another model makes it so that the order is ignored. Is this supposed to happen? Strikes me as odd behavior. For example class Farmer < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :cows, :order => ''position'' end class Cow < ActiveRecord::Base acts_as_list :scope => :farmer end If I do

Metropolis acceptance rates
Is there a way to recover Metropolis-step acceptance rates AFTER completing posterior draws? The immediate application is in the probit.bayes and logit.bayes models used by Zelig... which I believe is merely calling MCMCpack. So one strategy, to which I am fixing to resort, is to call, say, MCMClogit with verbose set to mcmc (or mcmc divided by an integer) and then look at my screen.

Deployement options
After reading the digital shortcut and the documentation on the web site I''m confused. Which one should I use? pen, balance or nginx ? I don''t want to use a behemoth like appache and ssl is not needed so it reduces my choice to those three only.... What are the pros and cons of each? I don''t have much money, so the less ressources I use the better it is for me.... As
