similar to: scan and skip - without line breaks in the input file

Dear all, I am attempting to model some one-dimensional data using a mixture model of non-central Student's t distributions. However, I haven't been able to find any R package that provides this functionality. Could there be a way to "manipulate" the EM algorithms from the mixdist or mixtools package to fit the model, or do you have any other suggestions? If anyone could help

Hello, there seems to be a bug in tapply or barplot in R 1.9.0 that was not in = earlier versions. Hi, I am looking for an efficient way of skipping big chunks of lines on a connection (not necessarily at the beginning of the file). One way is to use read lines, e.g. readLines(1e6), but a) this incurs the overhead of construction of the return char vector and b) has a (fairly remote) potential to blow up the memory.
