Again, about boxplot
Thank you for your guys reply for my previous question. But I got one more question about the boxplot. With the code in the R-help: boxplot(len ~ dose, data = ToothGrowth, boxwex = 0.25, at = 1:3 - 0.2, subset = supp == "VC", col = "yellow", main = "Guinea Pigs' Tooth Growth", xlab = "Vitamin C dose mg", ylab =

Changing x-axis on boxplot
Dear List, ? I am creating a boxplot with two subsets, very similar to the example by Roger Bivand at ?boxplot (reproduced below).? I am trying to change the labels on the x-axis to have one number to cover both subsets.? I can do this in other plots by using axis=FALSE followed by a separate axis() command.? I have also tried variations in the names= argument but can't get it to work.?

Deleting observations - can't see the data after that
Hello all, I am loading a data frame, fitting a model, getting diagnostic plots and they are flagging a couple of observations as problematic. Fair enough, and I want re-fit without them. After I delete an offending row (identified by one of the diagnostic plots), something like data = data[-3,]; then R will no longer print the contents of the data frame; it tells me it is a data frame

[OT] (slightly) - OpenOffice Calc and text files
Hello all, I had a very strange looking problem that turned out to be due to unexpected (by me at least) format changes to one of my data files. We have a small lab study in which each run is represented by a row in a tab-delimited file; each row identifies a repetition of the experiment and associates it with some subjective measurements and times from our notes that get used to index another

more boxplot questions
Hello, I have a couple more questions about boxplots. In the books I've read on statistics (I'm not a statistics expert but just a poor engineer trying to help his wife with the analysis of the data she gathered for her medieval history PhD), I seen two kinds of box plots: one using quartiles to determine the height of the rectangles and whiskers which is what the standard R boxplot does,

adding the mean and standard deviation to boxplots
Dear list, How can I add the mean and standard deviation to each of the boxplots using the example provided in the boxplot function? boxplot(len ~ dose, data = ToothGrowth, boxwex = 0.25, at = 1:3 - 0.2, subset = supp == "VC", col = "yellow", main = "Guinea Pigs' Tooth Growth", xlab = "Vitamin C dose mg",

question about boxplot
Here is a question from an old guy: I want to use the boxplot function as follows: boxplot( p.prop ~ R + bins ) This command makes nice boxplot for the factor "R" crossed with the factor "bins". I am having alot of trouble getting control of the labels on the X axis. I want to control it more by specifying what the labels are, controling the 'size' of those

ggplot boxplot - how to order categories
I am interested in creating a boxplot using ggplot or qplot where I can specify the order of the categories being plotted on the x-axis. For example, the following command plots the categories (diamond color) in alphabetic order (D, E, ..., J): qplot(color, price/carat, data=diamonds, geom="boxplot") I want to know how I can modify this command so that the categories are plotted in a

ask help about boxplot , different list variation into the tick of x-axis?
Hi ,everyone. I want to draw a boxplot figure, main script shown as below. when I run the command "boxplot(bjavee~yearname)",it is wrong with the error information " model.frame.default(formula = bjavee ~ yearname) : variation 'bjavee' list is wrong". I want to add the yearname as the x-axis tick. And yearname is a array with the length 12,while bjavee is a 5*12

About "Plot.new"
Hi, sorry for bothering your guys. I will trying to make some nice graph using boxplot. when I check the help file of boxplot, there is a sample code as: boxplot(len ~ dose, data = ToothGrowth, add = TRUE, boxwex = 0.25, at = 1:3 + 0.2, subset = supp == "OJ", col = "orange") legend(2, 9, c("Ascorbic acid", "Orange juice"),

ordering a factor in boxplot output
I'm sure I'm missing something obvious in the documentation... I'm generating a boxplot boxplot(CleanValue~ApptCategory*ReportingCode, data=newfile) where ApptCategory is a factor with possible values ("New","Established") Problem is, the output orders those factors alphabetically, and I'd really rather see New come first. I'm apparently confused by the

Ordering boxplot factors
Hi all, what a great help list! I hope someone can help me with this puzzle... I'm trying to find a simple way to do: boxplot(obs~factor) so that the factors are ordered left-to-right along the x-axis by median, not alphabetically by factor name. Complicated ways abound, but I'm hoping for a magical one-liner that'll do the trick. Any suggestions would be treasured. Thanks,

How to pass value to an argument in a function which is an argument to the main function
Dear all, I constructed this function called my.boxplot.stats by replacing fivnum() with quantile() in function boxplot.stats(). So I can try different quantile methods in bwplot(). The problem is I couldn't pass different values to the "type" argument to my.boxplot.stats, which in turn is an argument in bwplot(). Now I just have to manually change the "type" value in

error using boxplot.stats (but boxplot works¿?)
Hi The answer to this may be obvious, but it's got me floored. I'm unable to get boxplot.stats to work for me! My session looks something like this: > ia=read.table('/tmp/prueba.csv', header=TRUE, sep=",") > attach(ia) > boxplot.stats(X8weeks~Orden) Error in sort (na.last, decreasing, ...) : argument 1 is not a vector In addition: Warning

Boxplot, formula interface, and labels.
I have data I'd like to plot using the formula interface to boxplot. I call boxplot like so: with(mydata, boxplot(count ~ geno * tissue)) I get a boxplot with x axis labels like "wt.kidney". I would like to change the '.' to a newline. Where is this separator configured? Thanks, -Ed

Label / Tick under single Boxplot
Hi! I am trying to get the tick / label under a stacked boxplot with only a single data row. With >=2 rows it works, but with a single one the tick resp. my class name is not printed below the boxplot. Can anybody point me to what am I doing wrong? For example: boxplot(data.frame(c(3,4,5)),names=list("a"),beside=F) Here, I would like to have the "a" below the single

Boxplot by factors
Dear all, I have the following data format cellnumber force 1 100 1 230 1 100 1 200 1 130 1 210 2 179 2 298 2 400 2 500 2 600 ........... I want to make a boxplot of the force according to the cellnumber. Here the cellnumber is actually a factor. It has 1, 2 two levels. How can I do that using boxplot? Thanks in advance Ming
