LDAP: Mixing local and LDAP-Users
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
is it possible to mix local and LDAP-Users? Especially I need to know if
it's possible to use an LDAP-Group (like the group that is mapped to
Domain Administrators) together with an local user. (If I use "adduser
$username $ldap-group" the group isn't found, even if the group is shown
using "getent group".)

The use of R Commander for beginning students and newbies
Everyone:
In the last few months I've noticed an increasing number of questions to
this list from students who are new to the use of R and who have limited (in
any) local support on R and specifically support for R syntax.
My text
(http://www.springer.com/statistics/social+sciences+%26+law/book/978-1-4614-

May Dovecot help in users education
Hello,
I was wondering if dovecot could help me in my project to smoothly make
all my users switch to TLS encrypted POP / IMAP sessions and forget
about cleartext.
My first idea was to setup dovecot as a POP/IMAP proxy for my mailhosts
and ask dovecot to display a warning message or slowdown non TLS sessions.
Is there any way to achieve this with dovecot? Does anybody have another
idea

Way OT: Anyone know where to get data on relationship between education and salary
I'm sorry for the way OT post, but here goes. I'm an informatics
specialist, and R user. My wife is a secondary school maths teacher.
My wife recently tried to explain to her class the link between
education and potential salary, and I would love to be able to show this
graphically, however, I cannot find any freely available data for this.
Does anyone know of a suitable dataset,

Since we?re discussing HLS encoder options, there is also:
https://github.com/ElvishArtisan/GlassCoder
Which does not require LiquidSoap, ffmpeg or even Icecast. Just aim it at a web server or CDN publishing point.
Cheers!

Or you could just use ffmpeg:
ffmpeg -hide_banner -i "${icecaststream}" -c:a copy -vn -strftime 1
-f hls -hls_time 6 -hls_list_size 10 -hls_segment_filename "${hlspath}radio-%Y%m%d-%s.ts"

R for education research tutoral?
I have a couple of colleagues doing research in Computer Science
Education. I've talked one of them into using R (he is also interested
in data mining) and am about half-way to persuading the other (who agrees
that he ought to know more about analysing his data). Neither of them
has a strong statistic background, but both are fairly able and willing
to learn new tools and techniques.

Educational institutions: Your Asterisk experiences wanted!
Hello!
I've been asked to get a show of hands for some analysts for users
in Higher Ed - Universities, Colleges, or any other 2 or 4 year degree-

contact data and briefly how you're using Asterisk, and if you don't

Hello everyone.
This is something I am interested in learning more about.
Let's say you have an audience of (what is in the subject line.)
What kind of infrastructure do you need for Icecast?
I asked a similar question about the liquidsoap group.
In Windows and Linux web servers, we can create a forest for our web servers.
Send traffic to different servers to even the workload.

education task view
Dear R-Devel,
I have had it in my mind for some time now that a Task View related to
R and education might be a good thing.
There are currently 19 Task Views, covering a broad spectrum of
general topics for which R may be used. The homepage lists 64 books
related to R, and several of them have accompanying packages on CRAN.
There is a wiki and a host of contributed documentation. We also have

remedial stats education
In short:
I didn't take enough stats courses in college. Now I am working on scientific
research and I feel somewhat lost when it comes to designing the statistical
framework. I have looked through the books at:
http://www.r-project.org/doc/bib/R-books.html
I even tried to read [17] Julian J. Faraway. Linear Models with R. This book
is too advanced. It helped a little bit but I still

Guidance: compile education
This question may not belong in the Centos.org list, but I do want to
compile against this distro. Please advise.
The question:
Can I be pointed at methods to learn to compile source against a distro.
I have software development background (but too long ago to be
specifically useful; however I have the concepts). Typically I can find
some fairly decent step-by-steps for some apps, but it

Dear all
My 5 cents (or Rappen in CH) if it comes to serving many clients.
We are running a 4 node cluster since several years ? rock solid and w/o any issues. This cluster serves many thousands of listeners from all over the world. Our source transcoder sending the audio streams to each Node. Hence, transcoding power is not an issue here. The four Nodes a geographically dispersed in 3

EuroLLVM BoF session: Compilers in education
Hi all,
I'm organizing a BoF session during the upcoming EuroLLVM developers
meeting. As the subject of this message already shows, this session
will be on compilers in education. I'm currently looking for both
participants to the discussion and input for the actual program of the
session. I've already got some ideas which I'll introduce below.
At our university, we mostly

Thank you both for your input. It is greatly appreciated, not only by me,
but I am sure for many others who find this thread.
Tom - using Linux server for icecast.
HLS was brought to my attention a while back on the liquidsoap forum.
I have not had a chance to completely look in on it, but do plan on
checking it out.

Learning R
Dear R helpers,
Almost 15 days back I have become member of this very active and wonderful group. So far I have been only raisingĀ queries and in turn got them solved too and I really thank for the spirit this group member show when it comes to the guidance.
I wish to learn R language and I have given 2 months time for this. Can anyone please guide me as how do I begin i.e. from basics to
