Recall function: "evaluation nested too deeply: infinite recursion / options(expressions=)?"
hello all
i searched the archives and couldn't get a solution to the following question.
i have the following function:
F=function(z,v)
{
if (v==-.5) return(1) else return(2*v/z + 1/Recall(z,v-1))
}
and while testing whether it works (ie F(z,v) is approx = besselK(z,1+v)/besselK(z,V). the recursion formula allows one to calculate besselK(z,1+v)/besselK(z,V) for large values of z )

R: determinants and inverses
hello all
sorry for the following "none" R related question.
does anyone know of a reference to calculate the following identity:
|I + ABC|
where I is an identity matrix and A, B,C may not have to be square matrices?
you help will be greatly appreciated.

r: intergrate behaviour
hello R users
strange behavior of the integrate function!
i assume this occurs because of the way in which the quadriture is set up! (any comments.)

R: numerical integration problems
hello all
happy new year and hope you r having a good holiday.
i would like to calculate the expectation of a particular random variable and would like to approximate it using a number of the functions contained in R. decided to do some experimentation on a trivial example.

linking r and C
hello
i have a few quick questions.
i am using a windows platform.
how does one include functions from a particular r package in the C code. e.g. rgamma can be included if we include #include <R.h>
#include <Rmath.h> , and #include <math.h> in the C code. what should be included if i want to use functions that are inside the MASS package (for example)?

besselK- complex number problem
Im a student intrested in using R in my learning and research work in option pricing however i have a problem with besselK function In R.
Would you assit me in computing the besselK of third kind of a complex number in R.
Any code or suggestion will be highly appriceiated
eg
besselK(2,10) works well.. but
besselK(2,10i) doesnt work !!

prediction in a loop with only one sample
Dear all,
I have a sample with 920 observations. I want to create a loop which takes
300 of these observations for the prediction and the rest to estimate the
model.
My idea was to create something like this:
cs.training.dat <- read.table...
cs.training.dat_sub1 <- subset(cs.training.dat, Income>10)
cs.training.dat_sub2 <- subset(cs.training.dat_sub1, Dept.Ratio<=1)

referencing packages?
Hi
I know how to referenc R in a scientific paper - but is there a
standardised way to reference packages?
Thanks

aggregate slow with variables of type 'dates' - how to solve
Dear all
I use aggregate with variables of type numeric and dates. For type numeric
functions, such as sum() are very fast, but similar simple functions, such
as min() are much slower for the variables of type 'dates'. The difference
gets bigger the larger the 'id' var is - but see this sample code:
dts <- dates(c("02/27/92", "02/27/92",

MCMC coding problem
Dear All,
I am trying to convert some S-plus code that I have to run MCMC into
R-code. The program works in S-plus, but runs slowly.
I have managed to source the program into R. R recognizes that the program
is there; for example, it will display the code when I type the function
name at the prompt. However, the program will not run. When I try to run
the program, I get the following error

underflow handling in besselK (PR#2179)
The besselK() function knows about overflows/underflows internally;
there is a constant xmax_BESS_K in src/nmath/bessel.h (and referred to
only in bessel_k.c), equal to 705.342, which is checked if expon.scaled is
FALSE. (The equivalent number for bessel_i.c is 709, defined as
exparg_BESS in bessel.h.) However, besselK(x) silently returns +Inf if
x>705.342. This behavior is reasonable for

Concatenating one character vector into one string

I am sure this is simple - but how can I convert one charecter vector
into one string?
example:
x <- c("This ", "is ", "one ", "sentence.")
should become
"This is one entence"
Thanks

Selecting elements in vector
Hi
Consider the following code
> x <- rep(1:13, 13)
> y <- 1:3
I want to select all elements in x which are equal to 1, 2 or 3.
I know that I could use
> sel <- x==y[1] | x==y[2] | x==y[3]
> x[sel]
to obtain the values, but in my analysis, the y-vector is thousands of
elements long.
Is there any way, that I can do that easily?
Thanks

Bessel function with large index value
I am looking for a method of dealing with the modified Bessel function
K_\nu(x) for large \nu.
The besselK function implementation of this allows for dealing with
large values of x by allowing for exponential scaling, but there is no
facility for dealing with large \nu.
What would work for me would be an lbesselK function in the manner of
lgamma which returned the log of K_\nu(x) for large

How to navigate in layout() created graph?
Hi
I created a complex layout with using layout() and it looks exactly as
I need it. But I don't want to print in the order in which the
subfigure are numbered, but in a different order.
How can I navigate in the layout so that I can specify the subfigure
in which to plot?
At the moment I am using a function which is converting the number to

I tried to install rkward under ubuntu hardy heron, but it tried to
use the one from the cran repository which was newer, but it did not

repository, install rkward, lock it's version and enable the
