hierarchical clustering with pearson's coefficient
Hello,
I want to use pearson's correlation as distance between observations and
then use any centroid based linkage distance (ex. Ward's distance)
When linkage distances are formed as the Lance-Williams recursive
formulation, they just require the initial distance between observations.
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ward%27s_method
It is said that you have to use euclidean

squared euclidean distance
Dear R-Help-Team,
I would like to cluster my data using the ward-method. In several papers I
read (e.g. Bahrenberg) that it is neccesary to use the "squared euclidean
distance" with the ward-method. Unfortunatelly I cannot find this term in r
as a method for measuring the distance.
Does anybody have an idea?
Thanks in advance,
Carolin

Using Puppet to swap eth0 and eth1
I''ve been using Puppet now for a month or so and I''ve come to a
problem that may warrant an additional Puppet metaparameter. I''m
advocating the addition of a metaparameter called "preaction" (or
something like that), which will perform some arbitrary action before
the resource is modified. There may be a way to do this within
Puppet already (with some

Transformation of dissimilarity or distance matrix
Dear List,
is there an elegant (or even not elegant) way how to transform
dissimilarity or distance matrix A
(or, in general, arbitrary symmetrical matrix) by transposition of rows and
columns into a form
closest to "block diagonal" matrix B?
The matrix A is adjusted the following way
A[A<epsilon] <-0 #(epsilon is given "small" number)
B: (in its ideal form)

"Element not found" when connecting to sysvol
I have two samba DCs (4.0.9) and no Windows DCs, and group policy is
failing. I've narrowed it down to an error accessing the sysvol folder.
Some clients (not all clients) get the error "Element not found" when
connecting to our sysvol folder which is "\\ahc.pdc\sysvol\". The problem
seems to be intermittent, a client may suddenly start working again, or
suddenly stop.

distance in the function kmeans
Hi,
I want to know which distance is using in the function kmeans
and if we can change this distance.
Indeed, in the function pam, we can put a distance matrix in
parameter (by the line "pam<-pam(dist(matrixdata),k=7)" ) but
we can't do it in the function kmeans, we have to put the
matrix of data directly ...
Thanks in advance,

Error on distance matrix
Hi,
I am trying to calculate a distance matrix on a binary data frame using
dist.binary() {ade4}. This is the code I run and the error I get:

(a+b+c+d)
Error in if (any(df < 0)) stop("non negative value expected in df") :

hvcluster() with distance method from vegdist(), package = vegan
hello,
i'd be happy if someone could provide help with the following problem:
i have a dist.matrix that comes from vegdist() function of the vegan
package. the used method = "horn" is not accepted as argument in
hvcluster(...,dist.method="...").
is there a way to incorporate the method "horn" in hvcluster()?
thanks in advance!

login scripts --what to use
Hi,
We're setting up a PDC, and would like to have a login script to deliver
the mapped drives to users in particular groups, and connect to
printers. The printer drivers come from the [print$], share.
Does anyone have any good resources for this? What's the easiest and
simplest thing to get going --vbscript or batch files?
Thanks,
chris

Gower distance between a individual and a population
Hi the list,
I need to compute Gower distance between a specific individual and all
the other individual.
The function DAISY from package cluster compute all the pairwise
dissimilarities of a population. If the population is N individuals,
that is arround N^2 distances to compute.
I need to compute the distance between a specific individual and all
the other individual, that is only N

Hierarchical clustering using own distance matrices
Hey Everyone!
I wanted to carry out Hierarchical clustering using distance matrices i have
calculated ( instead of euclidean distance etc.)
I understand as.dist is the function for this, but the distances in the
dendrogram i got by using the following script(1) were not the distances
defined in my distance matrices.
script:

cluster a distance(analogue)-object using agnes(cluster)
I try to perform a clustering using an existing dissimilarity matrix that I
calculated using distance (analogue)
I tried two different things. One of them worked and one not and I don`t
understand why.
Here the code:

library(analogue)
iris2<-as.data.frame(iris)
str(iris2)

Multidimensional scaling and distance matrices
Dear All,
I am in the somewhat unfortunate position of having to reproduce the
results previously obtained from (non-metric?) MDS on a "kinship" matrix
using Statistica. A kinship matrix measures affinity between groups, and
has its maximum values on the diagonal.
Apparently, starting with a nxn kinship matrix, all it was needed to do
was to feed it to Statistica flagging that the

Aliases not working in a subclass ?

I''m overriding some resource attribute in a subclass. It seems that
specifying a resource by its alias doesn''t work in a subclass.
Looks like a bug, no ?

An ANOVA test that uses a distance matrix like hierarchical cluster analysis?
Hi All,
I have a question which does not pertain directly to the use of R but comes
from my use of R!
I have data which can be described as 3-dimensional e.g. (x,y,z), with no
negative component. The suggested way to analyze this data is via
multivariate techniques or by calculating what amounts to a levene's test on
the data and then an ANOVA on the three components if the first test is

How to create own distance measure in cluster ?
Hi everyone,
I want to create my own distance measure, other than 'euclidean' or
'manhatan', to use in cluster pckgs. To do this I think that I need to
change dist(), in mva pckg, or daisy(), in cluster pckg. (or is there a
cleaver way ?)
But this functions are in fact things like: .Fortran( "daisy", ... ) or
.C("dist",...).

error "Stack level too deep" on ''exec[ "perl Makefile.PL" ] ?
Hi,
I''m testing puppet from the subversion trunk. I have a rather
hacked-together system to install a CRM into one of my nodes, which
worked (more or less) with version 0.19.3. When I tried to do a puppet
run on a completely clean node it seemed to stall on the ''compilation''
part (I do an exec of ''perl Makefile.PL'' in the appropriate dir). When

date_helper megapatch and MultiparameterAssignmentErrors
Hello all,
There''s a great patch in trac that fixes a lof of issues with the
date helpers. I''m afraid it hasn''t had any attention yet.

This fixes all the little date_helper problems, except one: When you
choose an invalid date ActiveRecord throws an
ActiveRecord::MultiparameterAssignmentErrors. This used to work in
