Axe time of series in format yy-mm-dd
I'm trying to plot a ibm stock time series.
I made the download of that series,
ibm <- get.hist.quote(instrument = "ibm", start = "2003-01-01",quote=c("CL"))
And ibm is a serie wiht this characteristic:
Start = 37623
End = 37960
Frequency = 1
When I try to plot it,
ts.plot(ibm)
In the graphic the axe time is represented by 37623 ... 37960, How can I put

Treating variables as symbols
Hey,
I'm trying to find how to perform operations with a variable treated as a
symbol.
For, an extremely simple, example I want to integrate a*x with respect to x
and I want to find the indefinite integral of this, (a*x^2/2), or the
definite integral with some interval for x.
Another example of such a use would be to create a function
y<-function(x) {a*x}
and by typig y(2) I would get the

Dates entered as MM/DD/YY
I have some forms on my site that use text boxes to enter dates. They
typically default to today''s date, in the format "MM/DD/YYYY"
However, sometimes a user will erase the box and type in a date, but
instead of typing 02/01/2006, they''ll type 2/1/06. Once the record is
created in the mysql database, it reads as ''0006-02-01'' instead of

Utilizing column names to multiply over all columns
## Hello there,
## I have an issue where I need to use the value of column names to
multiply with the individual values in a column and I have many
columns to do this over. I have data like this where the column names
are numbers:
mydf <- data.frame(`2.72`=runif(20, 0, 125),
`3.2`=runif(20, 50, 75),
`3.78`=runif(20, 0, 100),

Creating table from data frame
Hey,
I have a dataset where two columns are factors and another column consists
of values. Each combination of factors can only have a single value assigned
to it.
I'd like to represent this as a matrix or table where the rows are the first
column factors and the columns the second column factors. So that each cell
a_ij in the matrix represents the associated value for the factor
combination

Adding two or more columns of a data frame for each row when NAs are present.
I am fairly new to R and would like help with the problem below. I am
trying to sum and count several rows in the data frame yy below. All works
well as in example 1. When I try to add the columns, with an NA in Q21, I
get as NA as mySum. I would like NA to be treated as O, or igored.
I wrote a function to try to count an NA element as 0, Example 3 function.
It works with a few warnings,

Controlling number of numbers before R rewrites to "+e18" etc
Hey,
I'm using R as a pre-processor for a large dataset with IDs which are
numeric (but has no numeric meaning so can be seen as factors).
I do some data formating and then write it out to a csv file.
However the problem is that the IDs are very long, 18-22 chars long more
precisely. R is constantly rewriting these IDs to the abbreviated +eX which
hinders me from exporting the data to the

I googled and looked on the dovecot wiki about this client_limit issue,

dividing values of each column in a dataframe
Hey Guys
I want to divide(numerically) all the columns of a data frame by
different numbers. Here is what I am doing but getting a weird error.
The values in each column are not getting divided by the corresponding
value in the denominator vector instead by the alternative values. I
am sure I am messing up something.
Appreciate your help

Logical subset of the columns in a dataframe
Hi R-helpers,
I've been struggling with a problem for most of the day (!) so am finally
resorting to R-help.
I would like to subset the columns of my dataframe based on the frequency
with which the columns contain non-zero values. For example, let's say that
I want to retain only those columns which contain non-zero values in at
least 1% of their rows.
In Excel I would calculate a row

extract columns using their names
Hello,
Is there a way to extract multiple columns from a dataframe using their
names instead of their numbers?
Currently I use:
data2 <- data1[, c(1,3,9)]
And I am looking for something like
data2 <- data1[, c("XX","YY","ZZ")]
I use the same dataframe for many purposes, and I run codes that change
the order of the columns every time.
Many thanks,
Adrian

dividing a dataframe column by different constants

Here you are a dataframe as example.
There are some SAMPLES for which a CONCentration was recorded through TIME.
The time during which the concentration was recorded is not always the same,
10 points for Sample A, 7 points for Sample B and 11 for sample C
Also the initial concentration was not the same for the three samples.

partial matches across rows not columns

I am trying to omit rows of data based on partial matches an example of my
data (seal_dist) is below:
A quick break down of my coding and why I need to answer this - I am dealing
with a colony of seals where for example A1 is a female with pup and A1.1 is
that female's pup, the important part of the data here is DIST which tells
the distance between one seal (ID) and another
