Dear All,
I was looking for the color index in?image function,?such as from topo.colors(n) and etc. but still never found it. For instance, from the help menu.

how to draw the legend about color from 3d picture
I have drawed a picture with persp, it's 3d map with different color,
indicate different altitude. In gnuplot, the corresponding command
'splot' will generate a picture beside to indicate the relationship
between color and altitude. But in R, how to draw it? I have read the
manual of legend, but they are all about how to draw a legend with
colored text, not a continuous varing color

need palette of topographic colors similar to topo.colors()
Dear useRs,
I got stuck trying to generate a palette of topographic colors that
would satisfy these two requirements:
- the pallete must be 'anchored' at 0 (just like on a map), with
light blue/lawn green corresponding to data values close to 0 (dark
blue to light blue for negative values, green-yellow-brown for
positive values)
- the brown must get darker for higher positive

How to calculate the derivatives at each data point?
Hi everyone,
I have a vector with atmospheric measurements (x-axis) that is
obtained/calculated at different altitudes (y-axis). The altitude is
uniformly distributed every 7 meters.
For example my dataframe is:
df <- dataframe(
*altitude* = c(1005, 1012, 1019, 1026, 1033, 1040, 1047, 1054, 1061, 1068),
*atm_values* = c(1.41, 1.40, 1.39, 1.38, 1.37, 1.37, 1.38, 1.36, 1.33, 1.31)

Try something like
with(df, predict(smooth.spline(x = altitude, y = atm_values), deriv = 1))
Cheers,

Hi Konstantinos
Not exactly derivative but

[1] -0.01 -0.01 -0.01 -0.01 0.00 0.01 -0.02 -0.03 -0.02
May be enaough for you.

Is there compression feature?
Hi
I recently started to look into Samba source code and SMB protocol .
I saw that SMBv3 has an compression feature but I couldnt find any source
code related to it.
I tried sending compression_capabilities in negotiate request packet but
there was no correspoding response.
Isn't feature implemented yet? If not when are you planning to implement it?
Thanks

axTicks and window resizing
Dear listers,
I have written a function to facilitate the drawing of altitude profiles
with x (distance), y (altitude) and a z parameter (altitude magnification).

Satellite ocean color palette?
Dear List,
Is there a color palette avaliable similar to what is used in satellite ocean color imagery? I.e. a gradient with blue on one end and red on the other, with yellow in the middle? I have tried topo.colors(n) but that comes out more yellow on the end. I am looking for something similar to what is found on the CoastWatch web page:

Extension to Skeleton for multi-track media
Hi all,
Discussions about a need for an extension to Skeleton to cater for
multi-track media files has been going on for a while. In a recent
thread here, in discussions on IRC, and at FOMS between Jan, Ralph,
Viktor and I, we discussed some fields. Viktor and I continued that
discussion to make more specific recommendations on what fields to
add.
We now have a wiki page at

Nested model and variance partitioning
Dear R users,
I face to a nested pattern and despite the numerous examples in the help I am
still confused.
I sampled bugs in different habitats within sites which were within rivers
themselves within different regions.
The habitat correspond to different substrata (not systematically present in all
sites). For rivers and sites, I have environemental variables (e.g. altitude
and slope of

Extracting data subset for plot
Dear list,
I want to make a plot based on the following information, using the command
plot.
variable A for x axis : temperature (range: -20 degrees to 40 degree)
variable B for y axis : altitude (range: 50 m to 2500 m )
The data below 0 degree of X variable wants to be erased tentatively.
Please kindly advise the command to extract the data ranging from 0 degree
to 40 degrees.

counties in different colours using map()
Hi,
I would like to plot a map of US counties using different colors. map()
seems to be the function to use, e.g.
library(maps); map('usa'); map('county', 'colorado', add=T,fill = T,
col=c(1:5))
plots Colorado counties using colours 1 to 5.
However, I want each color to represent a certain value - a value to be
picked from a data frame.
This code should show a

Overriding default type mappings of ActiveRecord
Hi:
Is there a good way to override the mappings between class variables
and database column type as determined by activerecord ?
I have a column in the database table (postgres) that is declared as
numeric(1000,0) which is an exact precision type. However, activerecord
maps the correspoding class variable to type float which will not work
for me. I''d like to map it to ruby type Bignum

P-value and R-squared variable selection criteria
Hi R community
I have a question. I'll explain my situation. I have to build a climate model to obtain monthly and annual temperature from 2004 to 2008 from a specif area in Almeria (Spain). To build this climate model, I will use Multiple regression. My dependant variable will be monthly and annual temperature and independant variables will be Latitute, Longitude and Altitude and I will work
