Problems with the console functions?
Dear Wine-experts, I've tested the functionality of simple CUI-applications with wineconsole (Wine-0.9.50, Ubuntu 7.10). Somewhat surprisingly, there seems to be numerous major flaws in the current implementation. The best (worst?) example is the widely distributed sample code ("Console: Demonstration of the Console Functions") available in the MSDN library

lmer Error: Downdated X'X is not positive definite
Hi, This is the first time I've posted, and I apologize if I formulate this incorrectly. I am analyzing data from a multi-region carrot variety trial. 35 varieties of carrots were grown in 3 randomized complete blocks in organic and conventional fields in Wisconsin, Indiana, Washington, and California. In this example I am comparing the heights of the carrot tops at harvest. In other

How to call directly "dotTcl" C-function of the tcltk-package from the C-code of an external package?
I asked Tomas. Apparently this works: getNativeSymbolInfo("dotTcl",PACKAGE=getLoadedDLLs()$tcltk) and the tcltk behavior was changed by r84265 | hornik | 2023-04-15 08:44:36 +0200 (Sat, 15 Apr 2023) | 1 line Try forcing symbols in ff calls. Bug in loadNamespace?
Looks like this could be locale related. Both of you are using non-US locales, and Sys.setlocale is not changing the last entry (LC_MESSAGES), which is as documented, but maybe somehow related. How to read percentage and currency data?
I'm struggling to find any help on this seemingly simple question - how does one read data with percentage (%) or currency (?,$ etc.) signs? When I try to read a data file which has any of those symbols in the data fields, they are read as characters rather than values. Is there a function or library which can deal with such values? As an example, I use this sample from one of chinna's

R 2.3.1 release candidates starting tomorrow
Starting with tomorrow's build, the beta designation will be replaced by RC. This also implies that we are in "hard" code freeze, and that we're not going to change anything unless it is critical. If you do not want such critical bugs to slip into the final release, please check the release candidates on your platform and report back if you find problems. The directory for

Alpha releases from Copenhagen not mirrored?
Looking at http://cran.r-project.org/src/base-prerelease shows that the latest alpha tarball is dated April 1. That page reveals its source via the various ?D=A etc sorting links, and looking at Peter's page at www.biostat.ku.dk, I do indeed see April 2 and 3 releases in Denmark. Has anything dropped in Vienna? Dirk -- Better to have an approximate answer to the right question than a

Time based calls charging and "reserved" numbers up to 999!
In United Kingdom, we have time based dialling pricing from most of Telco's based on time the call is placed!
