Problem with Dynamo-Package
Good day, I am facing a problem when I am installing the dynamo-package and loading it. After I installed the package, I received the following warning message: "In file.create(f.tg) : cannot create file 'C:\PROGRA~2\R\R-28~1.1/doc/html/packages.html', reason 'Permission denied'" and when I load the package, an error message pops up saying that "the application

Fast optimizer
Hi, I'm using optim with box constraints to MLE on about 100 data points. It goes quite slow even on 4GB machine. I'm wondering if R has any faster implementation? Also, if I'd like to impose equality/nonequality constraints on parameters, which package I should use? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. rc

rsync errors
Ah... there's your answer. ssh is working fine, as you say, but you're invoking rsync without telling it to user ssh, so it's using rsh. If you've got this, you don't need rsyncd.conf. The syntax you're using tells rsync to use an external transport. rsync -e ssh file rmt_host:/tmp Tim Conway tim.conway@philips.com 303.682.4917 Philips Semiconductor - Longmont TC 1880

aggregating irregular time series
Hi, I have a couple of aggregation operations that I don't know how to accomplish. Let me give an example. I have the following irregular time series time x 10:00:00.021 20 10:00:00.224 20 10:00:01.002 19 10:00:02:948 20 1) For each entry time, I'd like to get sum of x for the next 2 seconds

lapply across using multiple columns
Hi, To set a simple an clear picture of what I'd like to do, here is an example. I would like to calculate mean of column A and B bucketed by factor in column X in a data.frame. lapply or aggregate operates on a single column. I found dapply function in some package which doesn't seem to exist any more. Is there anyway that I can accomplish something like this? Thank you so much in

How to call R from C
Hi all! I read R Extensions manual. But still I am not sure how to call R functions from C. Would any of you give me a sample C code to show how to call R functions - for instance, time series functions - from C in the embedded way of C code? [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

[LLVMdev] doc about llvm JIT
Hi, I am interested in the JIT compiler of llvm, namely, lli. I want to know more about it, but I found little documentation about it. There are a few paragraphs about JIT in the CGO paper, a list of options dumped from "lli --help-hidden", and a short webpage of lli in the website. But many issues are not clearly described. For example, 1. When JIT is available

Hi - I read through dse package manual a bit. I'm not quite certain how I can use it to estimate a time varying coefficient regression model? I might pick up an inappropriate package. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. rh

tdb idmap returns different GID's for the same SID from time to time
Greetings! I have a samba 3.6.18 acts as a domain member. I'm using a samba nss and creating local groups for a domain users. Here part of my nsswitch.conf: group: files winbind passwd: files winbind The problem is that the tdb unix GID mappings returns different ID from time to time for the same SIDs. Suppose we have a local group "samba_svn1", created with "NET SAM

timings for examples in R CMD check
I'm having a very hard time making R CMD check produce a clean check on examples because of the timings inserted into examples by R CMD check. I am getting a difference on every example output caused by timing information being inserted by 'R CMD check'. The current 'Writing R Extensions' manual[1] states on p. 14: If directory tests has a subdirectory Examples

Support for high DPI 4K screens
I was recently testing R and RStudio on a high dpi 4K monitor under Windows and noticed that the plot window cannot be scaled or zoomed without affecting the relative sizing of all plot elements (line widths, font sizes, legend spacing etc). RStudio seems to try to overcome this by enabling dpi scaling for the plot window on high dpi screens, but this results in really fuzzy text and graphics

establishing a Code of Conduct for R
Dear Colleagues/Developers/R enthusiasts, Would it be possible to develop a code of conduct (CoC) document for R lists, CRAN submissions that all developers/maintainers to follow? This may help all of us to better communicate and move forward together. There is a similar effort from Python community, here are the links: * https://mail.python.org/pipermail/scipy-dev/2017-August/022044.html *

tempdir() documentation or real bug ?
?tempdir says By default, ?tmpdir? will be the directory given by ?tempdir()?. This will be a subdirectory of the temporary directory found by the following rule. The environment variables ?TMPDIR?, ?TMP? and ?TEMP? are checked in turn and the first found which points to a writable directory is used: if none succeeds ?/tmp? is used. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to

Identifying outliers in non-normally distributed data
Hello, I've been searching for a method for identify outliers for quite some time now. The complication is that I cannot assume that my data is normally distributed nor symmetrical (i.e. some distributions might have one longer tail) so I have not been able to find any good tests. The Walsh's Test (http://www.statistics4u.info/ fundsta...liertest.html#), as I understand assumes that the

Defining class as a member of another class
Hi, When I define a new class (through setClass), members defined in representation argument doesn't seem to like a class. For example, if I do the following: setClass("NotWork",representation=(x="zoo")) It seems to me that representation members will take in only primitive type to R. Is there any way to stuff a class as a member in another class? Thank you. - adschai

Smart way to check if a column with certain name exists in a data.frame
Hi, I have a matrix or data.frame (df). When I would like to check if a column named "x" exists, it becomes my habit to do the following: if (length(which(colnames(df)=="x"))>0) Is there any smarter way to do this? Thank you. adschai [[alternative HTML version deleted]]
