Build R-patched from Source
Hi,
If I want to build R-patched from source (on Windows), do I need to edit
Makefile and/or MkRules at all?
I have followed all instructions in the INSTALL file (under
R-patched/src/gnuwin32/), as well as downloaded all the files from
http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/Rtools/ . My PATH variable has been
modified accordingly.
Now, with the only change to MkRules I made was to modify the Tcl/Tk

Cannot activate chm help in R 2.10
Dear all,
I just tried to be fast for once, installed R 2.10 and also newly installed
all previously-installed packages. However, now all my help files are text
only, which is of course a pity with the new possibilities of links between
help pages. What can I do to re-activate chm-help? chm-help does not work
for anything, not even base functionality.
My system is Windows XP, German locale

help in R 2.9.x for R 2.10.x packages
[Env: Win Xp]
Is there any options() setting or call to help() or help.start() that
will allow me to view a help file for
a package built under R 2.10.x under R 2.9.2?
I'm using both R 2.9.2 and R 2.10.1, but prefer the former because the
CHM help is so much easier
to use. Yet, if I install a package built for R 2.10.x, I can't find
*any* way to display a help file in this
package.

chm NOT fixed but success elswhere
First: Contrary to claims chm viewing is NOT fixed. It's better but graphics and the index are still broken. I washed my hands on bug reporting of the problems, as I now use firefox with the chm addon which works even better than the last kchmviewer I tried.
Great News:
I installed the latest PBWin9.0 and the first example I tried worked flawlessly.
This surprised me as this was a COM example

problem building first package
Hi,
I am trying to build a package from source for the first time. I'm
using Windows XP. After R CMD INSTALL or R CMD check I get an error
message that I don't understand. I've tried to follow the instrucions
provided in the R Installation and Administration .pdf and the text
file that comes with Rtools, but most of this is new to me and clearly
I'm missing something. Here's

problem installing packages from source on win2k
Dear R-helpers,
I'm having trouble compiling R packages from source on Win2K. I installed R 1.7.1beta [1] on my win2k machine [2], downloaded the fields package as source [3] and tried but failed to install the package [4]. I get the same problem with other packages, so it doesn't appear to be limited to fields. Installation of precompiled packages seems to work fine. I've been

Building help pages
Hello!
I was just wondering, why only one of my "Rd" files is converted in
"chm" format (REGE) and the other are not when installing a package? The
output from installing a package on WinXp is below.
I tried to find more information about what "chm" format actually is,
however have found none.
Best regards and thaks for any replies,

R CMD check doesn't stop with checking examples
Hello!
I am building a package, which includes also one Fortran subroutine,
which works fine if I compile it as a shared library and load it into
R via dyn.load(). However, when I launch R CMD check it doesn't stop
with checking examples. It's just doing and doing ... I pasted the
whole output from R CMD check. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I'm still using R 2.0.1.

using chm help files under linux
Hi,
Chm (compiled help) is a microsoft invention. It's the default help
system under windows, but not so under linux.
I found that (at times) I like better how chm help looks.
Since there are chm viewers under linux, using chm help files should
be possible.
Has anybody tried to set R so it opens chm by default? I'm sure
there's some flag or Rprofile var that could get this done.

Registry override?
I first installed kchmviewer.
I then created the file run_prog:
#!/bin/sh
$1 "`wine winepath -u "$2"`"
I tested by running from a terminal
run_prog kchmviewer c:\MyChmFile.chm
This worked fine
I edited the registry entry for chm.file to
/usr/bin/run_prog kchmviewer %1

This is related to my post about .chm where vitamin set me on the right path.

Since then I reinstalled Ubuntu 8.04 and wine.
While perusing the virgin registry I noticed the chm.file ...command key was: C:\windows\system32\hh.exe %1
There is no hh.exe located in that directory. The hh.exe file is located in the C:\windows\ directory.

problem building R packages in windows xp
Dear R users,
I am having problems building R packages in Windows xp. I have followed the
instructions from Peter E. Rossi in Documentation -> Other, except for the
TeX version (fpTeX), since when I go to the recommended webpage, it is said
that fpTeX has been discontinued. I have MikTeX in my computer, and I have

Hi all,
When I install a new package, and don't yet know any function names,
I have to play the "poor man's game" to get to the standard
help system "Index" page for the package:

Compiler options for Makefile.win
Dear all,
For certain reasons I have to compile the source code of my package on
Windows XP using Microsoft Visual Studio 9.0, thus I had to create a
"Makefile.win". Now I have a question regarding compiler options /MT vs
/MD for Makefile.win.
The following partial output shows that when building my package on
Windows XP using "R CMD build --binary xps" with compiler
