how to change the margins of a plot area
Dear all,
I am ploting two boxplot of two chemical variables using the format
boxplot(Alkalinity, logAlkalinity, log="y", col=c("lightblue"), lwd=0.6, boxwex=0.3)
However when I plot like this, the distance between the two boxplots is very big and as well the distance of each boxplot from the plot area, left and right. How can I minimise that distance between the boxplots and

Time plots
Dear all,
I want to do some time plots and actually the dates are in the format of dd/mm/yyyy. So first I input my dataframe in R in a csv form. What I do is
DF<-read.csv("C:/Documents and Settings/DF.csv")
DATE<-as.Date(DATE, "%d/%m/%Y") # to tell R that DATE column is indeed dates
with(DF, plot(DATE,pH))
Until here it works fine, but I have the graph plotting

Boxplot superscript y-axis
Dear list,
I need to include in a superscript number (-1) in a y-axis label of a
boxplot graphic. I tried the following line:
>boxplot(five$gr13~five$Code, xlab="Species code",
ylab=substitute(paste("DGL growth (cm.yr"^{-1},")")))
It returns the following error message:

Boxplots with different variables and different ranges in R
Dear all,
I am trying to make boxplots in one diagram but it is not working. Actually I have a large dataset, around 35 water quality variables with different units and of course in different ranges (some are orders of magnitude bigger than others). I want to produce one diagram with all the boxplots of the variables of my dataset.
I tried these series of commands:

fitting a distribution to a ecdf plot
Dear all,
I need to plot an cumulative distribution plot of a variable and then to fit a distribution to that, probably a weibull or lognormal.
I have plotted the ecdf as
> plot(ecdf(x))
but I haven't managed to fit the distribution. I have as well attached the data.
I would appreciate if you could help me on that.
Thank you.
Kind regards
Maria

Enquiries about time plots in R
Dear all,
My name is Maria Lathouri and I am currently doing a PhD at Imperial College of London about time series of environmental variables in surface waters. I am trying to do some time plots with R but it seems that it is not working.
The problem is that the time is not regular, for example, a small dataset can be seen below:
Date pH

5/03/1998 5

specify axis range
Dear all,
I want to make a plot where I can specify the range of y axis. I am using the interaction.plot command and because the values of y axis are from 2 to 500, I am using a logarithmic scale.

help with lattice boxplots...
Hi All,
I need a small help with following code: I'm trying to convert "dashed
lines" to regular ones; and changing default "blue" border color to say
"black"... but I'm doing it wrong and its not working. Can anyone help
please. Thanks,
Code:
require(lattice)
ex <- data.frame(x=1:10, y=rep(c("A","B"), 5))

Initiating in BNArray
Hi,
I'm trying to understand some details about an example maintened in [1].
According that link, I have total.data as a data set (am I right?).
But I don't understand how is built that table.
I saved the dataset in a file, with dput(), and had something like this:
structure(list(df.all = structure(list(V1 = structure(c(1L, 2L,
3L, 4L, 5L, 6L, 7L, 8L, 9L, 10L, 11L, 12L, 13L, 14L, 15L,

Superscript followed by number then superscript in text
Hi all,
I'm having problems finding the correct format for a command.
I would like to write some text on a plot.
I'm using the following command:
text(x,y,"text here", srt=90)
I would like the text to read:
capacity 10^3 m^3
(with ^ denoting superscript (i.e. each '3' as superscript).
I've tried fiddling around with expression(paste(etc.... to no avail. I

missing symbols for mathplot
Hi all,
I'm trying to write an axis label
that sounds P( X | K and Xb ) (probability of X given K and Xb )
but I need the intersection symbol
(the "\cap" in latex)
Actually I did'nt find any "cap" symbol
in plotmath, the only one is
intersect(A[i],i==1,n)
but is not my case because subscripts and arguments are mandatory.
Anyone knows how to do?
Thanks

Piecewise regression in lmer
Dear all,
I'm attempting to use a piecewise regression to model the trajectory
of reproductive traits with age in a longitudinal data set using a
mixed model framework. The aim is to find three slopes and two points-
the slope from low performance in early age to a point of high
performance in middle age, the slope (may be 0) of the plateau from
the start of high performance to the

ggplot2: sub/super-script axes labels
How are sub/superscripts designated for text in axis labels? As in
this y-axis label:
scale_y_continuous("Respiration, pmol O2 h-1")
where the "2" needs to be subscripted and the "-1" needs to be
superscripted.
Thanks.

Barchart bar lengths not proportionate
When I use barchart (with default formatting options), I get bars whose
lengths/heights are not proportional to their value. For example:
http://drop.io/wbagm6s/asset/capture-png
Many of the values in this chart are 1; however, because the blue bars
extend to the left of the "0" tick mark, those bars appear to represent
higher numeric values. Is there a way to make the length of the

Recently, I have asked for a help with building graphs, and I got few
