Issue with the Matrix package
Hi all, I am wondering if this is a bug in the Matrix package or if it something that I am just getting wrong...here is an example: > m = matrix(0,4,4) > dimnames(m) = list(letters[1:4], letters[5:8]) > r = c("a","b","a","d") > m[r,2] = 1 > m e f g h a 0 1 0 0 b 0 1 0 0 c 0 0 0 0 d 0 1 0 0 > M = Matrix(0,4,4) > dimnames(M) =

Matrix: How create a _row-oriented_ sparse Matrix (=dgRMatrix)?
Using the Matrix package, how can I create a row-oriented sparse Matrix from scratch populated with some data? By default a column-oriented one is created and I'm aware of the note that the package is optimized for column-oriented ones, but I'm only interested in using it for holding my sparse row-oriented data and doing basic subsetting by rows (even using drop=FALSE). Here is what I

R vs Python performance-wise
Hi, Has anyone run any R vs Python (numpy) tests? I'd love to see what the differences performance-wise are, specially handling large sparse matrices. Since both rely on external C code, there might not be much of a difference. If you know and use both languages, what are the main differences and what made you stick to one over another? I also noticed that there are strong libraries

Creating a Sparse Matrix from a Sparse Vector
Hello, I am working with a sparse matrix that is approx. 13,900 by 14,100. My goal is to select a row out of the matrix and create a new matrix with that row repeated 13,900 times without having to do any looping. Example: Starting Matrix: exampleMatrix 3 x 4 sparse Matrix of class "dgCMatrix" [1,] 1 . . . [2,] . 1 . 0.5 [3,] . . 1 .. New Matrix:.. newExampleMatrix 3 x 4 sparse

R, AIX 64-bit builds - trying to understand root cause for message: "Error: Line starting 'Package: tools ...' is malformed!"
The bulk is on my forums - the final post for today is: Results to date: A. It looks like I am going to need a newer compiler for C - xlc/xlC V11 apparently does not understand this code: "/data/prj/cran/R-3.2.3/src/main/memory.c", line 2149.31: 1506-046 (S) Syntax error. I will have to check if R-devel has different code before asking for assistence. +2139 #ifdef

dgTMatrix --- [, , drop=F] strange behavior, Matrix 0.999375-20
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I have something strange here... I want to subset a large sparse matrix, with the subset being still in sparse form. Easily achievable with mm[i,,drop=F] , right? Well, it doesn't work on the matrix I'm working on. This is a very large wikipedia Matrix (now I can play with it as I just got 16Gb of memory): > mm at Dim [1] 793251

PAM clustering: using my own dissimilarity matrix
Hello, I would like to use my own dissimilarity matrix in a PAM clustering with method "pam" (cluster package) instead of a dissimilarity matrix created by daisy. I read data from a file containing the dissimilarity values using "read.csv". This creates a matrix (alternatively: an array or vector) which is not accepted by "pam": A call

Run rsync through intermediary server with SSH
I'm using rsync, ssh, and cron glued together with Python as a push-based synchronization system. From a single location, I push content out to various offices. I log stdout/stderr on the master server to make sure everything is running smoothly. I would now like for some of our "regional hubs" to take on some of the load (bandwidth-wise), while still retaining my centralized

Intermediary jitter buffering
Hello, I understand that only the destination of a call should do jitter buffering. So, if IAX2/PhoneA calls IAX2/PhoneB through my server (no transfers), PhoneA and PhoneB need to perform their own jitter buffering, and Asterisk will just forward the frames, correct? What happens if the peer does not support jitter buffering, but is close by so there's no need for jitter buffering? My

send all outbound traffic through intermediary
Is it possible to a configure a tinc (1.0.35) node to only send outbound through specific nodes, rather than trying to establish direct connections? I have a node which can connect to all the others directly, but some routes have terrible packet loss, so I'd like to configure it not to try. thansk Hamish

PAM clustering (using triangular matrix)
Hi, I'm trying to use a similarity matrix (triangular) as input for pam() or fanny() clustering algorithms. The problem is that this algorithms can only accept a dissimilarity matrix, normally generated by daisy(). However, daisy only accept 'data matrix or dataframe. Dissimilarities will be computed between the rows of x'. Is there any way to say to that your data are already a

Getting the commit message from Phabricator
I'm not sure if this is well known, but it helped me so I thought I'd share it with you. When committing to gitmonorepo, (with git llvm push) you need to have committed to your local repo first and so you need to have crafted your commit message from your the Phabricator revision. (e.g. D12345) Phabricator has the ability to give you this commit message it would have used, even if you do
