about lscv
Thanks in advance. Nowadays I just calculate the bandwidth h of cross validation in kernel smoothing using R language. And I just looked up the usage of function, which is lscv(x,......, exact=FALSE) My question is what does "........" stand for and mean? do you mind specifically explaining it for me? Thanks Regards -- View this message in context:

Weighted LSCV 2d kernel smoothing
R List, I am seeking help in the area of kernel smoothing. I am attempting to use LSCV values to conduct 2d and weighted 2d kernel smoothing (imported from an ArcMap shapefile), and have been unable to find tools to conduct such analysis in R. My biggest problem is determining the LSCV value and finding a tool that does weighted smoothing, as there are obviously many different packages that will

R crashes with >kud<-kernelUD(data, h="LSCV") script
Hi,  I am looking to perform a kernel density analysis in R, following the script that a friend of mine is using successfully. However, unlike for her, when I enter >kud<-kernelUD(data, h="LSCV"), R crashes and closes every time. This does not happen when I perform a different kernel analysis (>kud<-kernelUD(data)).. I have tried to un-install and re-install R, but it still

Adehabitat package question - trying to generate animal home ranges
Hello, I'm new to R and am trying to use the adehabitat package for home range and habitat selection analysis for some animal radiotelemetry data sets I have, but I can't get the home range functions (mcp & kernelUD) to work with my data. I think that my problem is that I don't properly understand how the package uses data frames and factors, and I may not be defining the id

errors when installing packages (ubuntu)
Hi List, I'm having problems installing certain packages. When I try to install fields, I get the output below. I have highlighted the what I perceive as the first error (spam seems to be a dependency of fields). Can I assume this is causing dependency problems for fields, which fails to install at the end, or is there a deeper problem? I run Ubuntu Karmic Koala on R 2.9.2. 2>

How can I use Adehabitat to obtain an .asc object with the predicted values of a niche model?
Dear all, I'm using the package adehabitat in R to import several .asc files (=matrix), and also create a kasc object (=dataframe) with all of them. The main idea is to use this kasc object to map the predicted values of climate-matching model for an overall area. However, I don't know how to proceed: Do I have to project the model (already stored in R) onto the kasc object directly, or

Modeling presence only data in R
Dear All, I have a set of environental maps and presence-only points for some species. How can I generate distributions models on R using these presence-only data? What packages and functions can I use to do so? Kind regards, Miltinho Brazil [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Calculating home ranges using mcp in adehabitat
Hello, I've been trying to calculate home range sizes (for Icelandic geese!) using minimum convex polygons with the adehabitat package. I've tried to use the R code shown by demo(homerange) in adehabitat and when that didn't work I've fiddled around with it but to no avail...Below is the output of the demo that I've attempted to follow, followed by a subset of my data (for one

Ecological Niche Modelling on R
Dear all, I have strong interest on Ecological Niche Model, which in general use a set of environmental variables (continuous, categorical etc) and Presence (or Presense/Absence) records for species. I think that "grasp" and "adehabitat" packages could help me on these tasks. My input layers are on ASC format, and the record of species is a data-frame with X, Y, name of

problem installing fields package 3.5 on R 1.8.1 on linux
I am returning to using R after a little time away. Saw some great new functions in the fields package and decided to upgrade. Everything seems to go fine until I tried to actually load the package, when I get an error: >library(fields) Error in parse(file, n, text, prompt) : syntax error on line 227 And (of course) I am unable to access any of the functions in the fields package. Error in texi2dvi
Hello: Changes in R seem to have broken the sos vignette, and I don't know how to fix it. Logging into a remote domain???
Hi - I'll be the first to say I don't completely understand Windows networking, but I did get the following to work when everybody (clients-w95/server-solaris) were on the same subnet. W95 boots up and prompts for username, password, and domain. I log in, and presto I'm connected and netlogon scripts run and everything is great. This is when I'm testing it on a completely

What is the function for "smoothing splines with the smoothing parameter selected by generalized maximum likelihood?
Dear all, I am new to R, and I am a biotechnologist, I want to fit a smoothing spline with smoothing parameter selected by generalized maximum likelihood. I was wondering what function implement this, and, if possible how I can find the fitted results for a certain point (or predict from the fitted spline if this is the correct language) -- View this message in context:

Duplicated date values aren't duplicates
Dear list, I just had a function (as.ltraj in Adehabitat) give me the following error: "Error in as.ltraj(xy, id, date = da) : non unique dates for a given burst" I checked my dates and got the following: > dupes<-mydata$DateTime[duplicated(mydata$DateTime)] > dupes [1] (07/30/02 00:00:00) (08/06/03 17:45:00) Is there a reason different dates would come up as duplicate
