Problem with viewports, print.trellis and more/newpage
Dear R-users,
I have got the following problem. I need to create 4x2 arrays of
xyplot's on several pages. The plots are created within a loop and
plotted using the print function. It seems that I cannot find the proper
grid syntax with my viewports, and the more/newpage arguments.
The following script is a simplification but hopefully will suffice to
illustrate my problem. Any suggestion

How to force axis to have the same range
Dear R-users,
I am trying to produce (standard and trellis) scatterplots which use the
same range of the x and y axes. In addition, I would like the plots to
be physically square. Is there one or more specific argument(s) to plot
and xyplot what would do that? I have looked at various combinations of
asp and pin value, but could not get what I wanted..
Thank you in advance for your help

Apparent different in symbol scaling between xyplot and grid.points
Dear R-users,
For the past few days, I have been trying to find the reason why some of
my plots were showing symbols of different sizes, while I thought I was
using the same .cex arguments everywhere. The problem is exemplified by
the following example code where the xyplot and grid.points functions
are used. The scaling factor is set to 0.84 in both the functions
settings, but one can see

combining grid.text, expression and variables
Dear R-users,
I am trying to use the grid.text and expression functions to display
several character strings and plotmath text on a viewport. Some strings
can include a variable portion (PI.limits in the following example),
which I thought could be implemented by combining the bquote and the
expression functions. Unfortunately, my expressions do not seem to be
evaluated. I would greatly

legend idea for latticeExtra
Dear list,
I've written a small utility function to add arbitrary legend(s) to a
lattice graph (or a combination of them), much like the legend
function of base graphics. I though perhaps it could be useful to
someone else, or improved by suggestions. I understand this goes
against the lattice paradigm somewhat, in that you short-cut the link
between group variables and the

lattice draw.key(): position of key in panels
Good afternoon,
I am working on a plot that requires custom legends to be placed in some
panels of the plot; other panels do not contain legends. The problem
that I run into is positioning of the legend in individual panels. In
particular, the 'x' and 'y' elements of the key-list are ignored by
draw.key() when it is called from inside a panel function. As a result,
the legend is

different legends in lattice panels
Hi listers,
I want to make lattice plots xyplots with the indication of legends
inside each panel with only the points and the lines actually ploted
inside each given panel according to the group(ing) factor.
The code below shows what I have achieved so far and I hope will make
clear what I want to have.
It seems to me that my solution is a very "dirty hack" and there
certainly is

How to put text outside an xyplot?
Dear R-users,
I have a plot created with the code below. I tried to put some text to the right of the color key. I worked with grid.text and also viewport(), but couldn't achieve this. I know this should be simple, but I just couldn't figure out how to do it. How does this work?
Cheers,
Marius

Units and dimensions in grid object
Dear R-users,
As far as I understand, when one defines the width of a rectGrob call using
a 'npc' unit, the width of the object is proportional to the width of the
current viewport. Is there a way to refer to the height (or width) of the
viewport when defining the width (or height) of the rectGrob object?
Thanks
Sebastien

Legend in scatterplot and adding regression lines
Hi R users
The scatterplot (used package R-Cmdr ) obtained has the legend off the
plot in the upper left
I would like to decide where to put the legend - is that option still
available and how do I do it?

Dataset <- read.table("J:/Pigmatingsb.txt", header=TRUE, sep="\t",

How to get correct proportions/bounding box for latex figure?
Hello,
I recently posted a question about my troubles with
importing
a lattice/trellis figure into latex.
To recap,
The figure contains 3 scatterplots, so it should have
roughly a 1:3 sort
of aspect ratio, in order to make each of the
scatterplots square.
Instead, the whole figure comes out roughly square, so
each scatterplot
is badly stretched. I fixed this by adding aspect=1/1

Rotated viewports in Grid
Hi all,
I'm trying to generate a plot containing a scatterplot, with marginal
densityplots for x and y.
However, when I try to generate a vertical densityplot, I get the
message "warning: can't clip to rotated viewport", and nothing shows
up. I'm probably misunderstanding how viewports are meant to be used,
so if someone could give me a hint, I'd be most grateful.

Different behavior of mtext
Dear R Users,
I am quite surprised to see that mtext gives different results when it
is used with 'pairs' and with "plot'. In the two following codes, it
seems that the 'at' argument in mtext doesn't consider the same unit system.
I would appreciate your comments on this issue.

Understanding padding in lattice
Dear R-users,
I am trying to understand what the different padding arguments in
trellis.par.set are exactly controlling the space around lattice plots.
I have used the following code as a basis for testing but it did not
really help me to visualize how the value of each argument changes the
margins and the plotting area. I guess a better way to visualize the
effects of these padding items

npc to native coordinates for xyplot
Hello,
I am having trouble adding symbols to grid graphics. I am able to
create a lattice scatterplot using xyplot, which has a range from
-15:15 in both the X and Y directions. However, when I try to add
circles and text to this graph using grid.circle() and grid.text(),
they are offset using the default npc coordinates.
Nothing happens when I pass the parameter default.units="native"

grid.arrange, grid.layout - legend, global y axis title
Hello,
I created several plot with ggplot2 dev mode.
Now I want to combine the plots in a grid
e.g. 2x2 with a fixed size of the output.
What I am doing at the moment is:
grid.newpage()
pushViewport(viewport(layout = grid.layout(nrow=2, ncol=2,
widths = unit(c(7.5,6.5), "cm"),
heights = unit(rep(5, 2), "cm"))))
print(plot1, vp = viewport(layout.pos.row = 1,

Alignment and Labeling of a color key in a xyplot?
Happy New Year to all R users!
I have two short questions concerning a xyplot with a color key:
1) How do I properly place (align) the color key beside the xyplot?
As you can see from the code listed below, the placement of the color
key is not correct. I would like the upper and lower end point of the
color key to be perfectly aligned with the upper and lower line of
the xyplot. Adjusting

ggplot legend consolidation
Hello Everyone,
I have recently been introduced to the ggplot package by Hadley Wickham
and must say I am quite impressed so far at how easy it is to make
attractive plots, but one thing I am struggling over is how to
consolidate legends.
I have 3 plots that I would like to put on a single page and all 3 map
the same dimension of the data to the colour aesthetic. Right now, when
I plot all
