mgcv (bam) very large standard error difference between versions 1.7-11 and 1.7-17, bug?
Dear useRs,
I reran an analysis with bam (mgcv, version 1.7-17) originally
conducted using an older version of bam (mgcv, version 1.7-11) and
this resulted in the same estimates, but much lower standard errors
(in some cases 20 times as low) and lower p-values. This obviously
results in a larger set of significant predictors. Is this result
expected given the improvements in the new version? Or

block averaging data frames
Hi there,
This seems like it should be simple. I have a data frame of climate data
sampled every 10 min. I want to average the entire data frame into 30
min values (i.e., one value for each half hour). Functions like
running.mean give me a moving average but I want to reduce the size of
the entire frame.. Any ideas how? Cheers!

prerun_command don't stop puppet on error
When an error occurs in prerun_command, puppet continues execution
instead of stopping.
We can see the error at the log file, but puppet cotinues doing
changes:

help with nls fitting
Dear all,
I'm trying to fit the following function
slope_pp3_mrna = ( (k3 * v3_K_d *p1^v3_h) / ( (v3_Kd^v3_h) + p2^v3_h ) ) *
( 1/(1 + (p2/v4_Kd)^v4_h) ) - pp3_mrna
to this experimental data in the datafraeme "Data_pp3_mrna" (see it at the
end of this e-mail)
I'm using the nls function in the following code. IN the last step of the

R functions with array arguments
Dear R users,
I'm trying to implement a self-defined function with multiple
arguments, one of which is an array, but I find that the result is a
single value instead of an array.
This is the example I'm working on:
# define integration limit vector
> Mabslim <- c(-17.95, -16.65, -17.27, -17.62, -16.76, -17.07, -17.02)
# Define function
> schech<-function(x,alpha,xstar)

Plotting with R: setting the y axis
I have a series of numbers I'm wanting to plot. They come from a
nanodrop machine, which graphs with a specific x and y indices. X goes
from 220nm to 350nm, which I can set. But the y axis should go from -5
to 65, but I'm finding it impossible to hardcode that.
I've looked. I've typed ?plot at the R prompt. Google has not been my
friend. _R Graphics_, if it holds the key, has not

Error in calling stepAIC() from within a function
Hi,
I am experiencing a baffling behaviour of stepAIC(),
and I hope to get any advice/help on what went wrong
or I'd missed. I greatly appreciate any advice given.
I am using stepAIC() to, say, select a model via
stepwise selection method.
R Version : 1.7.1

Many thanks and best regards,

echo cancellation for analog lines
Hi,
I am currently working on a thin-client "low-cpu" usage telephone
application.
The current setup is that you can make phonecalls using an alsa
supported usb headset and a smartlink based usb modem (a sweex
usb modem, which -in large quantities- goes for 17.95 euro's)
for analog lines.
Unfortunately, it is really made as a modem and not for audio
purposes, so, there is a pretty
