Doubts on anova and use of contrasts in multcomp package
Dear list,
I have been studying R and I would like the aid of more experienced to solve the problems of the analysis below:
r = gl(3, 8, label = c('r1', 'r2', 'r3'))
e = rep(gl(2, 4, label = c('e1', 'e2')), 3)
y = c(26.2, 26.0, 25.0, 25.4, 24.8, 24.6, 26.7, 25.2, 25.7, 26.3, 25.1, 26.4,

Cross Spectrum : Conversion of 2-D spectrum into a single complex array
Hi, I'm wondering why the spectrum() phase of quadrature
couple isn't purely +/-pi.
But mostly, I'm looking for a recommended way to take a 2-D
spectrum and convert it into a single complex array.
Kindly consider:
# 10 Hz sine wave 10 seconds long sampled at 50 Hz
deltaT = 1/50
t = seq(0, 10, deltaT)
w = 2 * pi * 10
x = ts( sin( w * t ), deltat = deltaT )
y = ts( sin(

ggplot : scale_x_datetime issues
Dear R users,
My immediate problem is that I do not seem to understand how to use the function scale_x_datetime function in ggplot. My deeper problem is that I don?t understand the use of the POSIXct class.

My data looks like like the following :

finer control of scales in xyplot
When plotting over multiple pages in lattice, I'd like to be able to
have "same" scales within a page, but "free" scales between pages. In
other words, something like:
z<-data.frame(x=1:100,
y=runif(100),
d=rep(1:2,50),
p=rep(1:2,each=50))
plot<-xyplot(y~x|d*p,

R uses private function in libc (PR#9107)
Full_Name: Quanah Gibson-Mount

OS: Linux
Submission from: (NULL) (171.66.155.86)
libc used to export the symbol:
__libc_stack_end;
however, newer versions of libc no longer export it. R has some serious
problems around this, because the code has:
# ifdef linux
extern void * __libc_stack_end;
# endif
and
#if defined(linux)
R_CStackStart = (uintptr_t)

SSfpl self-start sometimes fails... workaround proposed
Hello,
nls library provides 6 self-starting models, among them: SSfp, a four
parameters logistic function. Its self-starting procedure involves several
steps. One of these steps is:
pars <- as.vector(coef(nls(y ~ cbind(1, 1/(1 + exp((xmid - x)/exp(lscal)))),
data = xydata, start = list(lscal = 0), algorithm = "plinear")))
which assumes an initial value of lscal equal to 0. If lscal

Rsquared in summary(lm)
Hello,
I'm doing some linear regression:
>lm<-lm(osas~alp,data)
>summary(lm)
However, the Rsquared in the output of summary() is not the same as the
"standard" Rsquared calculated by spreadsheets, and outlined in
statistical guidebooks, being SSR/SSTO. The output says "multiple
Rsquared", but it is no multiple regression...
What's the difference?
Thanks,

mime-type change?
I have a recently (last Friday) updated CentOS 4.5 desktop running OOo 2.2
that, since this morning, displays OpenOffice .odt files as
application:x-java-archives and has replaced the open office icon on my
desktop with the java icon for these files. I have looked in both:
/usr/share/mime-info/gnome-vfs.mime
and
/usr/share/mime-info/file-roller.mime
And cannot see any reference to OpenOffice

Confidence ellipse for correlation
Hello,
SAS' point and click interface has the option of produce a scatterplot with a
superimposed confidence ellipse for the correlation coefficient. Since I
generally like R so much better, I would like to reproduce this in R. I've
been playing with the ellipse package. In order to have the points and the
ellipse on the same graph I've done the following.

Migration from LDAP to tdbsam
I need to migrate from samba w/LDAP 2.2.8a to 3.0.1pre3 with tdbsam.
Any suggestions how to keep from having to change all the profiles?
I have read through chapter 30 of the HOWTO but it assumes keeping the
same backend. I need support to munge_dial and that is not available
without mysql or tdbsam....
Thanks in advance for your help.
