How to save a model in DB and retrieve It
I'm wondering how to save an object (models like lm, loess, etc) in a DB to retrieve and use it afterwards, an example: wind_ms <- abs(rnorm(24*30)*4+8) air_kgm3 <- rnorm(24*30, 0.1)*0.1 + 1.1 wind_dg <- rnorm(24*30) * 360/7 ms <- c(0:25) kw_mm92 <- c(0,0,0,20,94,205,391,645,979,1375,1795,2000,2040) kw_mm92 <- c(kw_mm92, rep(2050, length(ms)-length(kw_mm92))) modelspline

Optimise huge data.frame construction
I have data for different items (ID) in a database. For each ID I have to get: - Timestamp of the observation (timestamp); - numerical value (val) that will be my response variable in some kind of model; - a variable number of variables in a know set (if value for a specific variable is not present in DB it is 0). To get to the above mentioned values I have to cycle

ARIMA, AR, STEP
Here is my problem: Autoregressive models are very interesting in forecasting consumptions (eg water, gas etc). Generally time series of this type have a long history with relatively simple patterns and can be useful to add external regressors for calendar events (holydays, vacations etc). arima() is a very powerful function but kalman filter is very slow (and I foun difficulties of estimation)

dataframe to a timeseries object
I?m wondering which is the most efficient (time, than memory usage) way to obtain a multivariate time series object from a data frame (the easiest data structure to get data from a database trough RODBC). I have a starting point using timeSeries or xts library (these libraries can handle time zones), below you can find code to test. Merging parallelization (cbind) is something I?m thinking at

Efficient coding
I have a piece of code as the one at the bottom, unfortunately since it involves time series from a db it's not easy to give to mailing list a working script. It becomes very slow after few hundred iterations over variable sp (must process several thousands). The Rprof() indicates that the problem is the use of gc(). Can someone indicate what I have to take care of not to call gc() so often?

Date time, MSSQL and RODBC
Hi, I have to connect to MSSQL server to get some TimeSeries value (datetime, float) on output. Datetime data type in R is a POSIXct date with information about timezone, daylight or solar time. In the DB I have not this kind of information and this cause some problem at the change of time for energy savings. Any idea on how to connect and have an simple and clear interpretation of date (without

Help Winbind on Solaris8 REF Andrew Tridgell
Hi, I installed Samba 2.2.2. and winbind on Solaris8. but I have some problems with Winbind, because it does not work. I read all the INSTALL from samba sources but when I type wbinfo -u (-g) I get the follow error: Error looking up domain users My smb.conf is the follow: [global] workgroup = INTESASGR netbios name = TFM server string = tfmbind hosts allow = 10.13. 127. log file =

approxfun + save: problem as R_approx changed package
Hi all, I recently switched to R version 2.6.2 (from 2.5.0 I was using) on Windows XP. I have a fair amount of previous data saved in the form of "approxfun" objects created by version 2.5.0, with code basically like this: > x <- rlnorm(100,10,2) > f <- approxfun(1:100,x) > f(5) [1] 313811.3 > save(f, file="mytest_approx.Rdata") Now on 2.6.2, when I try to

multiple graphs
Does anyone have a simple explanation and example on how to add histograms or barcharts to an other graph like in the example at the R-graph gallery: http://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/RGraphGallery.php?graph=109 looking at the code I'not undertand very well how to add graphs in arbitrary/clever position with an adequate scale. If somebody have a simplier example with explanations it

R: bug in windows GUI/script editor (PR#8288)
Hi Duncan, I am running R in MDI mode (with localisation not installed because I need to use RWinEdt), on an Italian version of Windows 2000 Pro. I just logged in today and tried to reproduce the bug: the first three times all was fine, the fourth one I got the bug, and finally noticed one detail: the bug appears when I open an R script (I tried several) which causes the "part of the

Using R2HTML
Hello, I''m using R2HTML library to make a HTML page output (both data frames and graphics): HTMLStart(outdir=paste(getwd(),"/prove html", sep = ""),filename="index", echo = F, HTMLframe = T, withprompt = "HTML> ", CSSFile = "R2HTML.CSS", Title = "Indici di attivit?") ...

Formatting print with awk and ORS
I have a command I execute: awk 'BEGIN { ORS=" " } { print "\"" $1 "\"" }' input_file which gives me exactly what I need, all field one's in quotes on one line each separated by one space. I now need to print a single quote around all of this, but the ORS flag is screwing me up, it's causing every attempt I try to repeat for every record.

metaplot (rmeta)
Greetings I have been trying to use metaplot to create a forest plot of my meta-analysis results. My data is in the form of ORs, so I've been inputting the ORs as the point estimate (mn) and the SEs of the logORs as the SE (se). However, whilst the point estimates appear to be displayed properly, many of the confidence intervals go below zero (not possible for an OR, as far as I know). I

Statistical question about logistic regression simulation
Hi R help list I'm simulating logistic regression data with a specified odds ratio (beta) and have a problem/unexpected behaviour that occurs. The datasets includes a lognormal exposure and diseased and healthy subjects. Here is my loop: ors <- vector() for(i in 1:200){ # First, I create a vector with a lognormally distributed exposure: n <- 10000 # number of study subjects

R 1.1.1 (and 1.2.0) on Mac (PPC) and "/afm/" bugs (?)
Hy (I hope this is the right list). 1. Mac porting I'm finishing the porting of R for Mac. I hope to finish it for the end of september. Thanks to the porting of R 0.64 by Ross (that he gave me) I succeded in this porting. This is the current state: Both R 1.1.1. and 1.2.0 works with minor modification to the original code. The Macintosh device has been updated to the new version of

nilo -> tftp-hpa interaction
I downloaded nilo and oskit from www.nilo.org. Added pcnet32.c linux-2.0.39 driver to oskit. Compiled nilo with pcnet32 and produced boot floppy image. Use it inside vmware vm. My aim is to be able to test pxelinux using vmware+nilo and not a real machine. Floppy starts, detects nic, receives ip from dhcp server, requests boot image to tftpd-hpa, then crashes when talking to tftp. Is

odds ratios in multiway tables (stratified)
Hi, does anyone know of a function to calculate odds ratios in multiway tables (stratified) (+ the other usual statistics involved) i mean: say we have a table r*c*d, For every d (depth) we have a r*c table, and in this table the odds ratio's are calculated for every 2*2 subtable in it. logically this function would look like): ORs(multiwaytable) or ORs(data$var1r,data$var2c,data$var3d)
