Copy & Paste from tktext on Mac
Hi there,
a text Window is supposed to map the shortcuts for copying and pasting
(<Ctrl-C>, <Ctrl-V>) automatically.
I'm working under Mac OS X and my text window doesn't really map these
functions automatically - it works fine under Windows. Is there an
easy way to map copy&paste functions to a text window under Mac OS X?
This is what I'm doing with my text

tktext-window smaller than text
Hi there,
I need to build up a tktext-widget that contains a longer text than
the tktext-widget actually is. So what I mean is, that the tktext
window is of width=100 and the text in it has a length greater 100.
But I don't want the window to just wrap the line, but to belong to
scrollbar that is able to scroll to the end of the text.

determining a parent function name
Hi, All,
I'm writing a wrapper for stop that produces a popup window using tcltk.
Something like:

if(!length(msg)) msg <- ""
if(require(tcltk, quiet = TRUE)) {
tt <- tktoplevel()
tkwm.title(tt, "Error")
tkmsg <- tktext(tt, bg = "white")

Two tcltk questions and Re: tcltk package functionality
Sorry, for my mail from last night contains no subject.
Therefore, I send it again and two tcltk questions are appended.

tcltk - automatically moving cursor to last line of tktext box - how?
Hi; I have a program which writes lines to a tktext box (of height, say, 10) with
tkinsert(txto, "end", paste(so,"\n"))
I would like my program to be such that it automatically scrolls down through the text box when it is full so that I always see the last 10 lines written. Can anyone help on this?
Best regards

possible tcltk event loop problem
Dear list members,
Rich Heiberger reported to me last week that the Messages window in the
Rcmdr GUI was freezing -- that is, messages posted to this window didn't
appear -- under Windows and R 2.8.0. I was able to confirm this problem on
three Windows systems, one using Vista and the other two XP. In each case, I
used R 2.8.0 and Rcmdr 1.4-4 (the current version). The problem doesn't

tcltk resizing when using tkgrid for layout
I've been able to figure out on my own how to do what I need in the
largely undocumented tcltk package, but I've finally hit a wall. I can't
even think of any sufficiently specific search terms to use for this.
I'm trying to make the widgets in my tk window resize when the window is
resized by clicking and dragging on its corners or edges. Instead they
stay exactly where they

Some tcltk-related packages not loading (OS X)
Dear r helpers,
In my exploration of the tcltk facilities of R I've had some success
but some failures, and wonder if someone could point me to a
solution. To begin:

capturing the result of print in a variable?
I'd like to capture the results of a print() command so that I
can put the results in a tktext widget. I know I can redirect
the output to a file with sink. I'm looking for something like
that, but where I can redirect the output into a variable. Is
there a way to do that?

tkinsert (PR#4289)
In R-1.7.1, I used to be able to append a character vector to a 'tklistbox' with e.g.
listio <- tklistbox( tktoplevel(), font='Courier', height=20, width=20, setgrid=TRUE)
tkinsert( listio, 'end', letters[1:3])
tkpack( listio,side='left', expand=TRUE, fill='both')
and three items would be added to 'listio'. This doesn't work in R-devel-- it

Extracting the terms from an rpart object
Hello all,
I wish to extract the terms from an rpart object.
Specifically, I would like to be able to know what is the response variable
(so I could do some manipulation on it).
But in general, such a method for rpart will also need to handle a "." case
(see fit2)
Here are two simple examples:

calling a function with dynamically generated buttons
Hallo,
I'm dynamically generating buttons depending on the number of rows of
my dataframe. Every button is supposed to call a function which
generates a plot with the values of one of my dataframe rows.
My code looks like this:
base <- tktoplevel()
plotten <- function(mat, namen, titel) {
midpts <- barplot(height=mat, names.arg = namen, main =
titel, las=2)

rpart package, text function, and round of class counts
I run the following code:
library(rpart)
data(kyphosis)
fit <- rpart(Kyphosis ~ ., data=kyphosis)
plot(fit)
text(fit, use.n=TRUE)
The text labels represent the count of each class at the leaf node.
Unfortunately, the numbers are rounded and in scientific notation rather
than the exact number of examples sorted by that node in each class.
The plot is supposed to look like

RPART - printing full splitting rule number on tree plot
Dear R-users
I am using RPART package to get regression trees. However having trouble getting the text function to put the full splitting rule number on the plot, instead to puts it in scientific notation. When a covariate has 1e4 or greater number of digits then the splitting rule number displayed on the plot is in scientific notation. But print.rpart displays the splitting rules in full.

monitor a simulation with a special console box?
I like to monitor simulation by reporting some current values to the
console, every 25th iteration say. I think it might be nice to have
that appear in a separate window. Anyone know how?

Multicolumn Listbox selectcommand trouble
Hey folks,
This is my first message to the mailing list so please let me know if I
mess something up.
I'm trying to use the selectcommand for the mclistbox but I'm not very
adept at using functions. Ideally I'd like to change the editor text when
a different list item is selected but any help using the selectcommand
would be appreciated and I think I could get the rest working.

Is there an equivalence of lm's “anova” for an rpart object ?
Simple example:
# Classification Tree with rpart
library(rpart)
# grow tree
fit <- rpart(Kyphosis ~ Age + Number + Start,
method="class", data=kyphosis)
Now I would like to know how can I measure the "importance" of each of my
three explanatory variables (Age, Number, Start) in the model?
If this was a regression model, I could have looked at p values from the

rpart, cross-validation errors question
I ran this code (several times) from the Quick-R web page (

data set).
Why does this happen?
Am I doing something wrong?
