But it seems there is two "paradigms" S3 that seems the old one but is the one used in the R.oo package and S4 which seems more recent As a starting point, which one is best to use? Is R.oo useful? what are the main difference between the two? Any feedback

for loop Vs apply function Vs foreach (REvolution enhancement)
Dear all, I know this topic has already been covered in other posts (at least the for loop Vs apply family of function), but I am looking for fresh / up-to-date opinion and feedback on those 3 methods to run unavoidable loops in R. I realise that it may be too general question for many, so any feedback appreciated. 1. apply Vs for loop >> Seems apply is (was?) supposed to be faster than

How to Reshuffle a distance object
I would like to randomly shuffle a distance object, such as the one created by ade4{dist.binary} below. My first attempt, using sample(jc.dist) creates a shuffled vector, losing the lower triangular structure of the distance object. How can I Ishuffle the lower triangular part of a distance matrix without losing the structure? Thanks. --Dale x1 <- c(rep(0,4),1) x2 <- c(rep(0,2),rep(1,3))

R CMD BATCH vs R CMD batch
Hi, Out of laziness I just used "R CMD batch" instead of "R CMD BATCH". I didn't get an error so didn't think about the consequences... One consequence is (at least on Mac OS X 10.11 but probably in more generality) that R_BATCH_OPTIONS are ignored, which was kind of fatal in my case... I am thus wondering whether it makes sense to either a) have R_BATCH_OPTIONS also

This set of flags worked for me: std::ios_base::out | std::ios_base::trunc | std::ios_base::binary Yes, there are open issues with std::ios_base::binary, but llvm are not affected with them now.
