what is wrong with this code?
dlogl <- -(n/theta)-sum((y/(theta)^2)*((1-exp(y/theta))/(1+exp(y/theta))) d2logl <- (n/theta^2) - sum((-2y/theta^3)*(1-exp(y/theta))/(1+exp(y/theta))) - sum(((2*y/theta^4)*exp(y/theta))/((1+exp(y/theta))^2)) returns the error message: Error: unexpected symbol in: "dlogl <- -(n/theta)-sum((y/(theta)^2)*((1-exp(y/theta))/(1+exp(y/theta))) d2logl" do you know what i have done

assign multiple variables at once
R Experts, I would like to create a series of variables without having to assign a separate line of code for each new variable. My dataframe (DF) contains two groups of linked variables (ESP1:ESP9) and (ECRL1:ECRL9). Within ESP1:ESP9 are abbreviated species codes (full dataframe contains 26 codes). ECRL1 represents the number of species x in variable ESP1 harvested, and so on through ESP9 and

mystery "158"
Well, ?factor does not say anything about this behaviour (assigning numeric code instead of level of factor). And actually if you do assignment for whole vector the result is different (vector in data frame is changed to factor). > temp2$fff[1]<-vec[1] > head(temp2,2) pokus minuty fff 1 T42 240 3 2 T42 300 <NA> > temp2$fff<-vec > head(temp2,2) pokus

Accessing Package NEWS (NEWS.Rd)
Okay. So, after having spent quite some time never really tracking down why my package NEWS files were unacceptable to readNEWS(), I noticed that there was recent (to me anyway) development that allowed the NEWS to be done as an Rd file. Sweet! A more standard format... I converted a NEWS file in one of my unreleased packages to Rd format. checkNEWS() gave it a thumbs up. But then it went south.

Circumventing code/documentation mismatches ('R CMD check')
Hello, As prompted by B. Ripley (see below), I am transfering this over from R-User ... For a package I am writing a function that looks like test <- function(Argument1=NA){ # Prerequisite testing if(!(is.na(Argument1))){ if(!(is.character(Argument1))){ stop("Wrong class.") } } # Function Body cat("Hello World\n") } Documentation of this is straight forward:

Feature request: non-dropping regmatches/strextract
A very common use case for regmatches is to extract regex matches into a new column in a data.frame (or data.table, etc.) or otherwise use the extracted strings alongside the input. However, the default behavior is to drop empty matches, which results in mismatches in column length if reassignment is done without subsetting. For consistency with other R functions and compatibility with this use

Converting array to matrix
Hi, I have a 3d array as below, I want to make this array to a matrix of p=50(rows) and n=20(columns) with the coverage values . The code before the array is: library(binom) Loading required package: lattice pi.seq<-seq(from = 0.01, to = 0.5, by = 0.01) no.seq<-seq(from = 5, to = 100, by = 5) cp.all = binom.coverage( p = pi.seq, n = no.seq , conf.level = 0.95, method = "exact")

Suggestion: mkString(NULL) should be NA
Shouldn't Rf_mkString(NULL) return (the c-level equivalent of) character() rather than the NA_character_? An empty string and NULL aren't the same. It seems reasonable for Rf_mkChar to give NA_character_ though. ~G On Tue, May 24, 2016 at 8:42 AM, Jeroen Ooms <jeroen.ooms at stat.ucla.edu> wrote: > On Thu, May 12, 2016 at 1:20 PM, Jeroen Ooms <jeroen.ooms at

Another issue with Sys.timezone
(I reported the test failure mentioned below to R-help but was advised that this list is the right one to address the issue; in the meantime I investigated the matter somewhat more closely, including searching recent R-devel postings, since I haven't been following this list.) Last May there were two reports here of problems with Sys.timezone, one where the zoneinfo directory is in a

Hello, I would like to know how to delete some rows? Suppose I have a large data frame look something like this: x1 x2 x3 .............. a 1 0.45 b 1 0.41 c 0 0.43 a 1 0.39 d 1 0.40 e 0 0.41 r 1 0.42 a 0 0.46 . . .. I would like to have another data frame which has all

Feature request: non-dropping regmatches/strextract
I do think keeping the default behavior is desirable for backwards compatibility; my suggestion is not to change default behavior but to add an optional argument that allows a different behavior. Although this can be implemented in a user-defined function, retaining empty matches facilitates programmatic use, and seems to be something that should be available in base R. It is available, for

Prevent 'R CMD check' from reporting "NA"/"NA_character_" missmatch?
Hello, I'm writing a package am running 'R CMD check' on it. Is there any way to make 'R CMD check' not warn about a missmatch between 'NA_character_' (in the function definition) and 'NA' (in the documentation)? Thanks for any help. Sincerely, Joh

R 3.4.0 RPMS
Dear Tom, I see that RPMS for R 3.4.0 are not successfully built on Fedora, nor on RHEL 7. https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/packageinfo?packageID=1230 When I build with mock on Fedora 25 I also get a build failure. R is not able to establish the time zone inside the chroot and this triggers a regression tests which is new in R 3.4.0. Specifically, in file tests/reg-tests-1d.R this test

x and y lengths differ
I have a problem with R. I try to compute the confidence interval for my df. When I want to create the plot I have this problem: Error in xy.coords(x, y, xlabel, ylabel, log) : 'x' and 'y' lengths differ. I try this code: library(dplR) df.rwi <- detrend(rwl = df, method = "Spline",nyrs=NULL) write.table(df.rwi,file="rwi.txt",quote=FALSE,row.names=TRUE)

as.character(list(NA))
I tend to avoid using as.<type> functions on lists, since they act oddly in several ways. E.g, if the list "L" consists entirely of scalar elements then as.numeric(L) acts like as.numeric(unlist(L)) but if any element is not a scalar there is an error. as.character() does not seem to make a distinction between the all-scalar and not-all-scalar cases but does various things with

BUG: confusion between next-server and gateway
Hello, I'am trying to efi-netboot a HP ProLiant DL120 Gen9[1], that has multiple NICs, one embedded 2-port and an extra 4-port, so I got to the HP/EFI/multinic problem. I read through the multinic mailthreads and using current master[2], it booted successfully to syslinux but then another problem manifested: Syslinux for some reason asks the gateway and not next-server about ldlinux.e64 (I
