Easy way to handle form input without a model class?
I have a couple forms that I''d like to be able to validate and automatically populate, but it shouldn''t be based on AR. In fact I often have a bunch of small forms that I can''t really justify writing a whole new model class for anyway. I''d like to validate the form input, and then use rails helpers to automatically populate the form if validations fail.

Server Push, with Active MQ?
I''ve read the postings about Juggernaut with interest, it is an interesting approach but in wondering about a solution that wouldn''t require flash I did some searching and came across activemq (http://incubator.apache.org/activemq). Their approach for messaging to an AJAX client (http://incubator.apache.org/activemq/ajax.html)seems to be a combination of polling and keeping

Am I misunderstanding "require_dependency"?
Hi From what I understand about documentation about require_dependency, this function will work like require but the file will be reloaded on every request to the server when in development mode. I have bootstrapped am minimal RoR project with 0.13.1 Rails. I have created a minimal Controller and hooked up it''s "index" action at the site root. I have also created a

Serialized object behaves weird
Hi! I got a class named EinsatzFilter which I serialized to session. Before saving to session it works afterwards I keep getting the message: "undefined method `to_s'' for #<Person:0x38c6ab8>". "Person" is a from ActiveRecord::Base inherited class. Code: class EinsatzFilter include ApplicationHelper attr_reader :personen, :monat, :projekte, :kunde

mysql storeconfigs needs mysql gem
Recently I started noticing that after running for a while puppetmaster would freeze after a client called `freshness` which would eventually result in the client getting a timeout and the client dyeing. I tracked the freeze down to the call to ActiveRecord::Base.verify_active_connections! in rails.rb on line 26. After scouring the nets I finally found:

background process
Hi all I am working on a heavy engineering project. And the requirement is that I needto do a lot of process before I store the data to the db. Now the question is that I want to do the process that I am doing but I want to do it in the background. What I actually mean to say is that..I just want the user to get a msg that Records Saved. But in real I want the process to go on in background.

Get "some read error" on calls to worker
I''m running the latest from svn (rev 285). I''ve been having a problem launching a process repeatedly. What happens is that I get a debug message "some read error" and then the worker refuses to run again. I''ve stripped my worker down to just doing a puts and it still happens. Like the other threads I want to launch my workers as needed, however I get the

What does Reloadable mean in rails source code?
In the actionpack-1.12.5\lib\action_controller\base.rb, you can see the definition: class Base include Reloadable::Subclasses ... And following is the definition of Reloadable: # Classes that include this module will automatically be reloaded # by the Rails dispatcher when Dependencies.mechanism = :load. module Reloadable class << self def included(base) #nodoc: raise

Composite primary key support in ActiveRecord?
Hi, As I understand, composite primary keys aren''t supported in ActiveRecord yet. May I ask if there are plans for this feature? Better yet, if this feature is under development, how''s the progress going? I''m not trying to use legacy databases. I tend to think that using multiple integer column id''s (composite primary key) are often natural way to

"uninitialized constant Reloadable" error heads-up
I can''t duplicate this problem on my local machine, but also can''t find any mentions of it on the Gmane archive, so thought I''d just throw in a quick mention in case anyone else comes across it. On Textdrive, using gem rails 1.1, in an app that works fine on my local machine, I get the following error in my production.log: "uninitialized constant

Mongrel: auto-reload plugins?
When developing applications, Webrick will automatically reload controllers, models, etc. if the source changes. For obvious reasons, it doesn''t do this for plugins, which makes it a pain to develop said plugins. I was hoping Mongrel might have some facility to say "watch this directory too and reload any changes". Obviously, re-init''ing all plugins would be

Rails not properly handling Oracle db connections/sesions in dev mode
We are running edge rails with oracle. After a few hundred requests all available sesions are used up. It seems prior connections are being left open. When this happens no one using the installation of Oracle can create a new session until you kill your mongrel/webrick server. Patch #6928 addresses this problem, and i applied it to my vendor rails and it worked. I think, if possible, this

plugin creation: where to put "include Reloadable"
I''m writing my own plugin and for the purpose of not having to restart the server each time I modify it I want to follow this suggestion http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/ SomeImportantPluginNotes and include Reloadable in it. I just can''t seem to figure out exactly where to put it. (I tend to get internal server errors?) Anybody know the answer? -Sebastian

Reloadable workers? (Rails Testing without DRb restart?)
Hey guys, I just opened up my first installation of BackgrounDRb and so far I love it. I''ll have to share this plugin at my next Ruby Brigade meeting! I have one question though: Is there a way that I can run the BackgrounDRb server in a "test" mode that will reload my changes without having to restart every time? (Similar to how mongrel does this with my

Class Caching Problem [was Newbie Question about Custom Classes]
So any other ideas as to why my custom class under app/models is being cached even though all the caching is set to false in the config/environments/* files? Currently I''m having to restart WEBrick after EVERY change to the file. The controllers and views are reloading just fine and not being cached. It''s just the custom class I created that''s being cached. Any ideas
