Error calling "read.table" from Python
Hello,Everybody, Now I am using R (D)COM Server from Python to manipulate some data. When I try to use "read.table" function to read some data, an error occurred. However these statements work well when they are input to R directly. It is so odd. The Python scripts are as the following, from win32com.client import Dispatch sc=Dispatch("StatConnectorSrv.StatConnector")

polar.plot orientation and scale in plotrix
Hello all- I would like to orient my polar.plot (from package plotrix) so that the circular scale runs clockwise and the origin (ie. 0 degrees) starts at the top of the plot. The defaults of running the scale counter-clockwise and beginning with 90 degrees at the top of the graph seems counter-intuitive to me. I'm using R 2.5.0, and plotrix version 2.2-4. Many thanks, Tim

Changing the origin in polar.plot in plotrix package
I am trying to draw a polar plot, which is easy enough to do in the plotrix package through the polar.plot function. However I would like to change the origin of the length vector. For instance all my length values are between 75 and 85, so instead of having the origin as 0 (the default) I'd like it to be, say, 50. Is there any way do to this in the polar.plot function, or if not is there an

A polar.plot BUG in plotrix 1.3.3 ?
Hi, I just updated to R-2.1.1 and updated packages acordingly However, after the update, routines that use polar.plot did not function as correctly. In plotrix 1.3.3 the polar.plot function does scale label.pos to radians prior to calling radial.plot Hence, the command polar.plot(c(5,10,5,0),c(-10,0,10,20),rp.type='P',

How to convert the "user coordinate system" in R graph to "normal coordinate system" whose origin is the upper-left cornner of the drawing area?
Dear friends, The user coordiante system in the R graphics is easy to understand as it simply corresponds to the range of values on the axes of the plot. However, sometimes, we want to kown the coordinates of a region in other system, e.g., the normal coordinate system whose origin is the the upper-left cornner of the drawing area which is used to set the hot regions in the HTML image maps.

Getting game to run: directories
This is a newbie question, so forgive me if you've heard it a million times before. I've just downloaded a Windows game called "Zenith". The website did confirm it worked on Linux under Wine. However, the game does not start because when I click on the executable, it says it cannot load an image from the /media directory. This game is, apparently, meant to be portable so all

Feed list of vectors to vioplot()?
Hi, I have a list of vectors and am trying to coerce them into something that vioplot will take as groups of data to be plotted independently. Can someone nudge me into the right direction? Thanks, Joh

Plotrix Trick
Dear All, I am using the plotrix library to plot some matrices. I have a problem: some of my data are outliers, hence using a linear color scale does not work very well (you would see too many cells having a similar, indistinguishable color). See the code snipped at the end of the email. Plotting the logarithm of the data gets the job done, but my problem is that I would like to write in every

Understanding padding in lattice
Dear R-users, I am trying to understand what the different padding arguments in trellis.par.set are exactly controlling the space around lattice plots. I have used the following code as a basis for testing but it did not really help me to visualize how the value of each argument changes the margins and the plotting area. I guess a better way to visualize the effects of these padding items

ggplot & annotating charts
Dear "R-listers" I've been trying to figure out how to annotate charts in ggplot (ie add text to line charts, highlighted boxes etc). By and large, I can get close to what i want with base graphics, but would ideally like to use ggplot whenever possible (additionally, i would like to add text labels automatically to the chart). The code is below I suspect I need to use geom_rect,

Hexagon border in plotrix's math2D.plot
Hi there, I'm attempting to use color2D.matplot(x,cellcolors=cellcol, do.hex=TRUE) from the plotrix package, but do not want to have borders around the hexagons. I've tried various approaches such as fg="white", col="white", lty=0, lwd=0 and border=NULL/FALSE/"white", but none of them works. I'd appreciate any ideas. Thanks, John -- GMX Kostenlose

srt --- slope text with function?
[resent, plus small addition; I do not understand why gmail sent a weird charset.] Dear R wizards: I would love to write a general function that matches the slope of a plotted line in an xy-plot at a particular x,y location. something like x<- (1:10)^2; y<- 40:50; plot( x,y, type="l", xlim=c(0,90) ) srt.at5 = text.at.current.plot.with.slope( x, y, 5); text(

ANN: Alaska.rb - Polar bears, igloos and sled dogs... oh my!
Is anyone else here from Alaska interested in a ruby users group to meet in Anchorage once a month? It might be a long shot but I thought i''d put the possibility of such a group out there if others are interested. If so, we''ll coordinate some times that work. ggplot2, arrows and polar coordinates
Dear R users, The following issue has been already documented, but, if I am not mistaken, not yet solved. This issue appears while trying to plot arrows with "geom_segment" (package ggplot2), with polar coordinates ("coord_polar"). The direction of some arrows is wrong (red rectangle). Please find herewith an example. Does someone know how to deal with that issue? Best
