denominator degrees of freedom and F-values in nlme
Hello,
I am struggling to understand how denominator degrees of freedom and
subsequent significance testing based upon them works in nlme models.
I have a data set of 736 measurements (weight), taken within 3
different age groups, on 497 individuals who fall into two
morphological catagories (horn types).
My model is: Y ~ weight + horn type / age group, random=~1|individual
I am modeling

boot package
Dear all
As part of an ongoing study on the ecomorphology of ant communities, I have
obtained a matrix with 156 row (species) and 20 columns (several measurements
of body shape) for 4 localities.
For each community, I calculated a matrix of Euclidean distances between all
pairs of species. From this matrix, I extracted two measures of community
structure: i) I identified the distance from a

replacing elements of distance matrix
Hi! I am trying to implement non-bipartite matching. I have around 500 sites
which can be clustered by 10 regions. I am able to calculate pairwise
Mahalanobis distances between sites (thanks to another post in the forum).
However, I want to constrain my match to sites within the same region. Thus
I want to replace elements of the distance matrix with a high value, say
999999, for sites not of the

multiple comparisons for MANOVA results
Hi all,
This is both a general and r specific question. I am analyzing some
morphological data and have performed a MANOVA on the 5 groups with 5
measured morphological traits. The results provide me with some pairwise
comparisons, but I would like to run a multiple comparison test on the
results so that I could look at all pairwise comparisons, but have been
unable to find a way to do it. I

Natural Language Processing for non-English languages with udpipe
Dear R users,
I'm happy to announce the release of version 0.3 of the udpipe R package on

Finding a 3D convex hull in R
Dear List Members,
I'm presently carrying out morphological analysis of a data set of neuronal
structures. These are essentially 3D binary trees. In due course I will be
trying to use discriminant analysis or other methods to classify these
neurons based on morphological variables such as total tree length, segment
number etc.
I would like to calculate a 3D convex hull for a set of X,Y,Z

unexpected input in rpart
Hi all, I'm a newbee using R. I need to do a classification tree using the
rpart package. Basically I have a set of birds of known sex and several
morphological measurements and we want to predict the sex using the
morphology. I read my csv file and it shows up in R no problem, looks fine
but when I execute the following rpart command

Questions about using sieve
I am trying to filter my imap mail sent to my phone by using sieve. Currently
everything is set up and works well using mbox and sendmail as the lda. I
have re-installed dovecot with sieve included and updated dovecot.conf, which
gives

How to logoff a session with dovecot?
I use dovecot to push email to my SE P1i and it works very well. :) However, I
have two email accounts set up on the phone, one using my domain for GPRS and
public WiFi and one using my WLAN address for use at home, the idea being I
don't want to pay for GPRS data at home. The trouble is the GPRS account
remains logged on and I get the mail in both inboxes. There is no option in
the email

Unbalanced Manova
Dear all,
I need to do a Manova but I have an unbalanced design. I have
morphological measurements similar to the iris dataset, but I don't have
the same number of measurements for all species. Does anyone know a
procedure to do Manova with this kind of input in R?
Thank you very much,
Naiara.

Discriminant Correspondence Analysis
Hello everyone,
I am totally new to the R program. I have had a look at some pdf documents
that I downloaded and that explain how to do many things in R; however, I
still cannot figure out how to do what I want to do, which is to perform
Discriminant Correspondence Analysis on a rectangular matrix of data that I
have in an Excel file. I know R users frown upon Excel and recommend

isoMDS and 0 distances
Hi,
I'm trying to do a non-metric multidimensional scaling using isoMDS.
However, I have some '0' distances in my data, and I'm not sure how to
deal with them. I'd rather not drop rows from the original data, as I am
comparing several datasets (morphology and molecular data) for the same
individuals, and it's interesting to see how much morphological
variation can be

A Hebrew stemmer based on libhspell
Hello.
I'm interested in creating a Hebrew stemmer to use with Xapian. Hebrew is a
complicated language to stem, as it uses the semitic "root" system, rather
than prefixes and suffixes, and has many irregularities in accidence
(morphology).
Fortunately, two bright fellows from the Technion University in Israel have
already created a Hebrew morphological analyzer as part of their

Phone cannot receive mail suddenly
Starting at midnight Feb 1 my phone can no longer fetch mail from Dovecot. It
endlessly connects and reconnects as you can see in the log below. I have
restarted dovecot, the phone, deleted /home/robinmail/mail, all to no avail.
I have turned on debug output but it does not tell me anymore. I can connect
and see the folder using the KMail imap client. Any idea how I can proceed
with this? The

no network in domain 0
I am new to xen and trying to get the primary domain working properly before I
create a new one. I am using the Gentoo unstable sources (2.6.16-rc5) and xen
3.0.1 and the kernel boots Ok and eth0 is activated. At this point the
network is active and I can ping. Then I shutdown net.eth0 and start xend.
This restarts net.eth0 and does some other stuff. Now every thing looks

Quoi D'Neuf, a beautiful Pinot Noir from the Loire
This bottle of Quoi D?Neuf by Herv? Villemade, a primeur from the Loire, was a real pleasure, a thirst wine that you sip without second thoughts and restriction to the last drop : This Pinot Noir with a bit of Gamay is fruity, gouleyant and fresh. This proves that even tasted several months after its release, a Vin Nouveau can deliver. It arrived on the market on the third thursday of november

Compiling drac.c on a 64 bit system
I have just installed dovecot and want to set up the drac interface. However,
when I compile drac.c I get the following link errors; anybody know what the
right compile options are for a 64 bit system? I have a Gentoo Linux system
using the amd64 architecture.
