Vis5D interface package
Greetings, Summary: Has anyone else started a package (or have code) with the capability to write Vis5D-readable netCDF files containing irregularly-spaced data? I've recently put together what might be the beginnings of a (GPL'ed) R interface package to the Vis5D volumetric visualization program (http://vis5d.sourceforge.net). Vis5D is commonly used in the atmospheric science and

coxph reference hazard rate
Hi, In the following results I interpret exp(coef) as the factor that multiplies the base hazard rate if the corresponding variable is TRUE. For example, when the bucket is ks008 and fidelity <= 3, then the rate, compared to the base rate h_0(t), is h(t) = 0.200 h_0(t). My question is then, to what case does the base hazard rate correspond to? I would expect the reference to be the first

Off Topic: Boston area bootstrap startup looking for part-time rails help
Bootstrap startup - innovative Web 2.0 project management software. Prototype in development. Significant equity. This not a big, venture-backed thing; it''s a work at home, bust your ass, do work you like, make good money (eventually) ? and take down decent money when we sell (hopefully) thing. MS Project is a $1 billion/year product that frustrates most of its users. I believe we can

Looking for Boston-area Rails developers
My company is seeking senior software engineers to work on a small team to design and develop a brand new web-2.0 type of service. This is an internal startup that''s part of an established, successful Boston-area software company. It''s also very early in the lifecycle, so the engineers will have significant influence over how the service evolves. The engineers will help evaluate

Model (Y) from left-censored independant variable (s)
Hi all; I'm trying to model a response variable (Y) from one (and eventually more...) independant left-censored variable (X*) In other words, X* is a random variable with values 0 -> inf. Thus, let c=0 X*= x if x>= c X*= c if x< c Does anyone knows a function or package in [R] enabling to model Y from a censored predictor X*? Thanks for your help! ?tienne ?tienne Boucher

SWAT authentication question...
Hi all, The documentation for SWAT indicates that logging in as the "root" user will allow the user to update & change Samba parameters. The question I have is, does SWAT define "root" on a Solaris 8 system as "a user with user id 0", or "a user with the user name root"? The reason I'm asking is, my system administrators are (rightfully)

Multithread via Perl
I am executing a command in a perl script using system($command) to get a file from a server. The command is "smbclient [various options and login info] 'get <remote file> <local file>' I run this perl script 4 times, one after another, with an ampersand (to run in background) within a shell script. There seem to be problems. I get the file, then zip it up afterwards. The

Reclassifying values within a vector to several other values
Dear List Apologies for such a simple question: I have a vector of 738 elements, coded with values between 1 and 16 (but not containing 7, 10, 11 or 13) and wish to recode value 14 to 1, 4 to 2, 1 to 3, 2 to 4 and all other values to 5. I've been trying to use the replace function (in base) and %in%, but without success. Many thanks Roy
