Error propagation
Dear R-helpers,
I´m in the context of writing a general function for error propagation
in R.
There are somehow a few questions I would like to ask (discuss), as my
statistical knowledge is somewhat restricted.
Below is the function I wrote, the questions are marked.

Discrepancies in weighted nonlinear least squares
Dear all,
I encounter some discrepancies when comparing the deviance of a weighted and
unweigthed model with the AIC values.
A general example (from 'nls'):
DNase1 <- subset(DNase, Run == 1)
fm1DNase1 <- nls(density ~ SSlogis(log(conc), Asym, xmid, scal), DNase1)
This is the unweighted fit, in the code of 'nls' one can see that 'nls'
generates a vector

Deviance and AIC in weighted NLS

Remote IP Phone's
Hi all,
I am wondering what people are doing for security when registering IP phone's remotely if you do not have the equipment to do a VPN tunnel at the remote site. The phone I would be working with mainly is the Polycom lineup.

Calculating with tolerances (error propagation)

But what if the example is not that simple. E.g.
P = 5 * q/h
Here, to get the maximum tolerances for P, we need to divide the maximum

Error in nls Error in if(any(start < low || start > upp)) {: missing value when TRUE/FALSE needed
Hi,
I got this error every time when I put upper and lower bound on my
parameters in nls. I'm not quite sure what this error is about. I also
wanted to find the content of nls_port_fit. But typing this directly
into R doesn't seem to give any result out.
I also tried to see the content of If anybody could shed some light
I'd greatly appreciate. Thank you.

bugfix for nls with port algorithm (PR#13540)

Need help with self-defined function to perform nonlinear regression and get prediction interval
Dear All,
I was trying to call a self-defined function that performs nonlinear
regression and gets the corresponding prediction upper limit using nls2
package. However, weird thing happened. When I called the function in the
main program, an error message "fitted(nlsmodel): object 'nlsmodel' not
found" came up. But when I directly ran the codes inside the function, no

nls and R scoping rules
I apologize for posting this in essence the second time (no light at the

is there a way to enforce that "nls" takes both, the data *and* the
model definition from the parent environment? the following fragment

For each element in vector do...
Dear R useRs,
I have a vector with positive and negative numbers:
A=c(0,1,2,3,0,4,5)
Now if i-th element in vector A is > 0, then i-th element in vector B
is a+1
else i-th element in vector b=a (or 0)
vector A: 0 1 2 3 0 4 5
vector B: 0 2 3 4 0 5 6
What's the right way to do this. I still have some problems with for and
if statements...

NLS-Weibull-ERROR
Hello
I was trying to estimate the weibull model using nls after putting OLS
values as the initial inputs to NLS.
I tried multiple times but still i m getting the same error of Error in
nlsModel(formula, mf, start, wts) :
singular gradient matrix at initial parameter estimates.
The Program is as below

2 questions regarding base-n and identifing digits
Dear listers,
I have two questions:
(1)
Is there a way in R to change the base-n of the calculations. I wnat to run
some calculations either in binary (base-2) or base-4. Is there a way to
specify that in R - to chnage from the decimal?
(2)
I also want to extract the digits from a larger number and store them as a
vector.
I could do it through converting top string, parsing the string and

But you can upgrade to 4.6.x ;-)
Check again and if that problem then still exists,
then i think you can better ask this one in the samba-technical list.
Or if Rowland knows something more about this.

couldn't write to home dir
hello,
I try to use samba as PDC on NetBSD,
but I 've had problem with that combination..
samba work perfectly..but
if someone want to write into homedir, they couldn't,
and w2k workstation appear message ,
that disk is full..
disk isn't full, and permission are set correct
I don't know, where should be a mistake,
I check configuration problably 100x,
but I haven't found any

FW: error predicting values from the LME
HI all,
I might add some more information in order to possibly solve my problem. I'm
really stuck and no obvious solutions do the trick.
I'm using R 1.7.1 on Windows 2000 with the packages regurarly updated.
I'm using hypothetical data constructed as a pseudo population conforming to
a certain Var-Cov structure.

samba_kcc RODC failes with NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
Hello Rowland,
of course it will be started by samba, I saw this output if I run "samba -i".
But I can trigger this output also by starting samba_kcc manually.

read.table problem

I have big (23000 rows), vertical bar delimited file:
