How to delete files older than X on backup during sync?
Hi list,
I have been reading MAN pages and listarchives, but not found the
answer to my question though I am sure it must be possible to acheive
my wish.
I wish to use rsync to create a backup BUT only keep the files for a
limited period of time, EG two weeks.
I have not yet been able to figure out how to do this inside rsync
(while the backup is being performed) and my understanding of the

install package version compatible with on older version of R
Hi,
I'm trying to install Chipster (for microarray analysis:
http://chipster.csc.fi/), which expressly relies on R 2.6.1 (for now).
So I'd like to install automatically (i.e. using a 'install.packages'
like function) the last version of a package compatible with the running
R version.
For example, when I'm running R-2.6.1 and want to install package 'lme4'
I get

Active Record
I want to build a one page finance calculator in Rails.
The form has several fields on it. When I press the calculate button
it will return to the same page with the answer. If there is an error
it will also return to the same page with the appropriate error
messages.
I want it to be able to
1. Carry over all the values on the form fields
2. Use the rails validation methods
How can I acheive

loading a package .Rda file at package load time
Hi, I have seen the answer to this sometime before but I just can't find it
again - pointers appreciated.
I have a package that contains some data.frames saved as .Rda files in the
data/ directory. When the package is loaded I would like to have them be
available in the workspace (without the user having to explicitly load them
using data(...)).
If my package does not use a NAMESPACE, I can

Further png() question
Ok, I have reinstalled R-1.9.0 and this appears to have fixed the
problems I was having with png(). However, I have a further question
regarding png()
Is it possible to pass a par() argument to the png() command? I am
wanting to produce 4 plots per object, which I normally acheive on an X
window by par(mfrow=c(1,4)). I have tried calling a new plot and setting
par in this way but this has no

Visualising Moving Vectors
I am wanting to plot a series of wind vectors onto a contoured area map
for a series of weather stations (eg arrows showing wind speed/direction
for a particular time snapshot), can someone please advise me how best to
approach this?
My desired end point is to be able to link a time series of such data
together so that I will in effect have a "movie" displaying the evolution
of these

MANOVA proportion of variance explained
Hello everybody
After doing a MANOVA on a bunch of data, I want to be able to make some comment on the amount of variation in the data that is explained by the factor of interest. I want to say this in the following way: XX% of the data is explained by A.
I can acheive something like what I want by doing the following:
X <- structure(c(9, 6, 9, 3, 2, 7), .Dim = as.integer(c(3,

I have a tab delim file with 100 rows and 100 columns.
I have numerical values in this table. What I want is to create an image

'stretching' a binomial variable
Hi,
Im carrying out some Bayesian analysis using a binomial response variable
(proportion: 0 to 1), but most of my observations have a value of 0 and many
have very small values (i.e. 0.001). I'm having troubles getting my MCMC
algorithm to converge, so I have decided to try normalising my response
variable to see if this helps.
I want it to stay between 0 and 1 but to have a larger range

[patch] New RC to differentiate partial xfers from files that get deleted before they're xfered
All,
During development of a backup solution with rsync I experienced some
failed backups because of RC 23, partial transfer. These were because the
application using the data I was backing up, was still active, and had
deleted a file inbetween rsync compiling the file list and then transfering
the file.
After some feedback from Wayne Davidson and JW Schultz suggesting the
solution to this,

Questions regarding "integrate" function
Hi there. Thanks for your time in advance.
I am using R 2.2.0 and OS: Windows XP.
My final goal is to calculate 1/2*integral of
(f1(x)^1/2-f2(x)^(1/2))^2dx (Latex codes:
$\frac{1}{2}\int^{{\infty}}_{\infty}
(\sqrt{f_1(x)}-\sqrt{f_2(x)})^2dx $.) where f1(x) and f2(x) are two
marginal densities.
My problem:
I have the following R codes using "adapt" package. Although "adapt"
