from points in Lon/Lat to physical distance in dist class
Dear R-listers, Here, I would like to hearing helps from you. I have GPS data (multiple points in the geographic scale) in longitude/latitude. I intend to calculate distance (in kilometer) among such points and output the distance matrix in dist class. I have gotten some progress, but I still can not get final goal. Could please give me any directions/advice? This email cc. to Mr. Pierre, the

Help installing sna on Solaris 10/Intel
Hi, I've been trying to install the statnet package on my Solaris 10/Intel system. I've been having problems with one of the dependencies, sna. During the compile, it always fails and complains about __builtin_isnan (please see below for output). I have tried installing this using Sun Studio 12, as well as gcc4 from opencsw.org. I am thinking it may have to do with what R thinks is the

resistanceDistance representation
Dear all, i'm using gdistance to model animal movement across landscape. I have imported 11 rasters with roads, freeways, slope, use-of-land, lakes (...) after recoding them with GRASS with a HSI value ranging from 1 to 4. I've assigned zero to the NAs and then transformed all the rasters in TransitionLayers (function=mean,directions=4) and later summed all of them into a new transition:

Rename volume?
I noticed that there once was a rename command but it was removed. Do you know why? And is there a way to do it manually? Thanks! -- OStR Dr. R. evaluating string variables
Hello!!! I have a folder (C:/R/) with matrix files, named by number, i.e. 0.mat, 1.mat,...,1250.mat. In this case, they are 5x5 simetric matrices. I would like to compute a property for each matrix and put calculated values into a data frame for posterior ploting and printing. Below there is an example for 7 matrices (0.mat..6.mat) #define data frame L <- data.frame(frame=numeric(7),

Slow, Incorrect Group Resolution through Winbind
Thanks for the help and suggestions. I've removed the deprecated options "idmap uid" and "idmap gid" and explicitly set "idmap config * : range" and "idmap config * : backend." New output from testparm is at the end of this message. (But note that previously I was only setting "idmap uid" and "idmap gid" in the configuration files,

Slow, Incorrect Group Resolution through Winbind
Hello. I am observing some strange behavior on a Linux system that has joined a Windows Active Directory domain using the Samba suite. Our servers are based on Ubuntu v12.04 but have kernel v3.12.17 and Samba v4.3.6. The problem that I'm trying to understand is that group name resolution through Winbind occasionally fails. Here's an example where one group name could not be resolved. This

Monmonier algorithm
Hello, Here is a late answer, but an answer nonetheless to the question I asked almost one year ago on this list: > On Wed, 29 Mar 2006, Thibaut Jombart wrote: >> Hello list, <http://tolstoy.newcastle.edu.au/R/help/06/03/24318.html#24322qlink1> />> / />> does anyone know if Monmonier algorithm is available in R? Problem with rc10
I just upgraded our test server from rc6 to rc10... ISSUE #1 I noticed that we no longer are getting two "From_" lines. However, the one that was good (had the original sender e-mail address) is now gone. The one with "dovecot.deliver" remains. I attempted to add "-d test" to the mailbox_command line in main.cf as follows: mailbox_command =

graph with 15 combinations
Dear R helpers, I have a data set with 4 types (W, C, E & S). Now I have values for all types plus all possible combinations (the order is unimportant): W, C, WC, E, WE, CE, WCE, S, WS, CS, WCS, ES, WES, CES & WCES. Ideally I would like to represent everything in one graph and as concise as possible. Drawing 4 circles and depicting it as overlap just gives me 13 out of the 15

null model for a single species?
Dear List members, I would like to test whether an observed occupancy of lakes in a landscape has occurred randomly (by chance) or not. How can I do that? The problem is that it concerns only a single species and I would like to use binary data only. At first I thought of generating null models and test the observed occupancy against the randomly generated one. However, this needs more than one

survreg with measurement uncertainties
Hello, I have some measurements that I am trying to fit a model to. I also have uncertainties for these measurements. Some of the measurements are not well detected, so I'd like to use a limit instead of the actual measurement. (I am always dealing with upper limits, i.e. left censored data.) I have successfully run survreg using the combination of well detected measurements and limits,

Using as.polynomial() over a matrix
Hello All First - a warning. I'm not very R or programming savvy. I am trying to do something without much luck, and have scoured help-pages, but nothing has come up. Here it is: I have a matrix (m) of approx 40,000 rows and 3 columns, filled with numbers. I would like to convert the contents of this matrix into another matrix (m_p), where the numbers of (m) have been coerced into a
