Inconsistent results when using wild card queries
We get some unexpected results when using wild card queries. We''re using
aaf and Ferret 0.11.4
For exampel, when seraching on a part of a collegues name (kristofer)
and limiting it to a specific source_id:
Query: source_id:25 AND kri*
Result: 2 documents. None of them containg the word kristofer, but other
matching words, as "kring" and "kring?" (swedish)

Strange Sorting Issues
Hi there,
I''m having some strange sorting stuff goign on. Here''s my search method:
sort_fields = []
sort_fields << Ferret::Search::SortField.new("name",
:reverse => :false)
@results = Listing.find_by_contents @search_criteria, :limit => :all,
:sort => sort_fields
page = (params[:page] ||= 1).to_i

creating a dynamic output vector
Let's say I have a program that returns variables whose names may be any
string within the vector
NAMES=c("varA","varB","varC","varD","varE","varF"..."varZ"), but I do
not ever know which ones have actually been created. So in one example
output, "varA", "varC", and "varD" could exist, but

Initialize varFunc in R
Hi,
I am running R2.8.1 under Linux, and I am having trouble using the
variance functions in nlme
My basic model was something like:
model0 <- lme( log(growth) ~ light * species.group , data=data,
random=~light|species ) # with 20 odd species divided in 2 groups
Following the methods in Pinheiro&Bates I tried to put a variance
function in the model:
model1 <- update(model0,

Using two (...) in a function
Hello R-Helpers,
I am not sure if it is a very simple question but I would like to use two
(...) in a function, for example,
this is a script where I would like to input the variable names (in one of
the (...)) and the variances associated to those variables which are not
calculated in the script because there is a specific software to calculate
it (the other (...))
data <- function

fitting several lme sistematically
Dear R-list,
I have a data set (in the following example called "a") which have:
one "subject indicator" variable (called "id")
three dependent variables (varD, varE, var F)
three independent variables (varA, varB, varC)
I want to fit 9 lme models, one per posible combination (DA, DB, DC, EA, EB, EC, FA, FB, FC).
In stead of writting the 9 lme models, I want to

windows print migrator + "add printer command"
Hi all.
I was wondering if anyone had a successful exampel of using the "add
printer command" with cups so that the windows print migrator could be
utilised. Seeing as Jerry as spent time on this it would be a shame not to
know how to use it. ;-)
I'm guessing that it would be along the lines of:
add printer command = lpadmin option1 option2 && cupsaddsmb option1

No matter what number i set limit to I get 10 items in the resultset. Am
I doing something wrong?
Thanks/David

Using a datefilter with caching
I''m trying to use a DateFilter to speed up some searches. The situation
is that a have an index with 200 000+ documents and I want to run a few
thousand alerts (basically stored searches) on only a small portion of
the index (documents added the last hour).
Is datefilter the best solution for the situation described above?
I assumed that the datefilter would be cached in the same way

Problem with index file permissions
I have a problem with file permissions and Ferret. In our production
enivroment the webserver runs as one user and the console (and cron
jobs) as another one. When Ferret creates a segment or file in the index
directory it''s created with only read/write-permissions for the owner,
which means that the other user can''t access the file.
How can I affect the permission on files

Strange error. Index corrupt on production server
We''ve been running Ferret for a few months on our site with great
result. But, just a monent ago the index suddenly became corrupt.
It all started with this error message:

Mininum number of resamples required to do BCa bootstrap?
I'm using R 2.15.1 on a 64-bit machine with Windows 7 Home Premium
and package 'boot'.
I've found that using a number of bootstrap resamples in boot() that
is less than the number of data results in a fatal error. Once the
number of resamples meets or exceeds the number of data, the error disappears.

RangeFilter performance
I''m using a RangeFilter to limit a search to only the most recently
added documents. My index is about 150 000 articles and the RangeFilter
typically selects about 1000 of them to run a batch of searches against.
The performance is great as long as my index is newly optimized. As soon
as add a few new documents the average search time for a batch of
searches using the rangefilter

Swedish Rails
I would like to announce my plugin Swedish Rails.
Rails provide many goodies and helpers for you, but some of these are
dependant on your user interface being in english. Date controls, for
example. Pluralization is another. And have you ever tried to capitalize
a string with Swedish letters in them? Then you know it doesn''t work
that well. Until now, that is. You install this

For example, i want the user to be able to say something simular in Swedish:
connect
disconnect

Best regards and thanks,

Swedish characters problem
Hello,
I''m playing around with Rails and I''m having problems with displaying
swedish characters. This is how far I''ve gotten:
I have a controller...

Does anyone know how to tackle Swedish letters in Rails. Am I
completely off track in thinking that it should be done using map or
regex in some clever way?
