Stting non-overlaping text positions
Dear List I am having problems to set text labels in a scatter plot. At some areas dots are close and labels overlap and texts cannot be read. I have too many dots to adjust this manually. Is there any function that will calculate the label offsets to avoid this overlapping problem? adjusting y axis labels in lattice plots?
Are there parameters that would allow adjusting y axis labels in lattice plots? E.g in the following simple example require(lattice) xyplot(rnorm(10) ~ 1:10, scales=list(alternating=2)) it would be nice to have the y axis labels adjusted to the right or at the decimal point instead of left adjustment. x11() and Xinerama settings
Hello Since I changed my X11 settings to a Xinerama setup, calls to x11() result in windows with a width half the size of the one specified by the corresponding parameter. Furthermore, x axis labels are overlapping. Other devices (e.g. pdf()), are not affected by these distortions. Did anybody have the same problem, and if so, how did you solve it? ( I'm using openSUSE 10.3 on a x86

use of UTF-8 \uxxxx escape sequences in function arguments
While preparing a function that contained non-ASCII characters for inclusion into a package, I replaced all non-ASCII characters with UTF-8 escape sequences (using \uxxxx) in order to make the package portable (and adhere to "R CMD check"). What I didn't expect: when one uses UTF-8 escape sequences in function arguments, one needs to use UTF-8 escape sequences when calling the

Best way of figuring out whether graphical elements overlap?
Hi all, I'm plotting impulses, where some of them should have labels hovering above them. I know of plotrix' spread.labels function, but would like to save that for instances where there truely is to little space for the label. Does anybody have any hints what' the most efficient way might be to achieve the following: - plot an impulse plot - before placing each of a vector of text

X11 device distortion (PR#10666)
Full_Name: Thomas Zumbrunn Version: 2.6.1 OS: GNU/Linux (openSuse 10.3 2.6.22.13-0.3-default) Submission from: (NULL) (131.152.125.199) With my particular X11 settings, the width to height ratio of the x11 device is distorted, with the width being half that of the height. This results in wrongly proportioned plots, wrongly positioned text etc. Other devices are not affected. I already asked

lattice: horizontal alignment of labels in key
Dear R users I have problems horizontally aligning labels in keys of lattice plots when the labels make use of plotmath. Here's a self-contained example: dat <- data.frame(x = rnorm(10), y = rnorm(10), z = factor(rep(c("a", "b"), each = 5))) xyplot(y ~ x, dat, groups = z, auto.key = list(columns = 2, text =

call lattice function in a function passing "groups" argument
I'm trying to use a lattice function within a function and have problems passing the "groups" argument properly. Let's say I have a data frame d <- data.frame(x = rnorm(100), y = c("a", "b")) and want to plot variable x in a densityplot, grouped by the variable y, then I would do something like densityplot(~ x, d, groups = y) If however I wanted to

Need help with pointLabels()
Hello R-list, I am plotting a weighted linear regression in R. The points on my chart are also scaled to sample size, so some points are large, some are small. I have figured out everything I need using the plot() function: how to plot the points, scale them by sample size, weight the linear regression by sample size, plot that line, and plot the labels for the points. However, although the

Are there any guis out there, which will allow editing of the graph?
Hi, all, I would like to know if there is any gui interface out there (academic or commercial) that allows one to edit R-language generated graphs (e.g positioning x axis labels.) It would be nice to have something like the user interface of Igor or Origin. I have already used JGR and R-gui. These are good, but they don't allow one to easily edit graphs. I have also tried

add only selected labels using thigmophobe
hi, I am trying to label data points within a scatter plot using thigmophobe. While the data set consists of about 3000 points I only would like to label a subset of these points. I read the x and y coordinates in from a txt file and define them as: MLPM1<-log2(Ratio.M.L.G2.PM) HLG2<-log2(Ratio.H.L..G2.PM) the names and a corresponding ID are read in from the same txt file as:

How to Label Cases in Scatterplots?
Hi everyone, i?m trying to graphically display distributions with r and i?m working with makrodata from the WVS. the command i?m using is > plot (Makrodata$v11, Makrodata$v12, xlab="Democracy Score Economist", > ylab= share religious people") i?m having an additional variable that identifies respectively labels the

How to avoid overlapping labels
Hi Remko, thanks for your answer. but i do not really understand how to use the commands. if i want to use thigmophobe.labels(x,y,) do i need to identify the xy coordinates for each point first and then manually move every point? and if i neet to do so how to use the identify() function? or is there any possibility to automatically place the labels in the best position? >MatArab <-

package grid: mirror grob objects along an axis
Hi everyone I'd like to flip grobs (grid graphical objects) along an axis, e.g. flip grobs horizontally or vertically. I couldn't find any hints, neither in the documentation nor by searching the web. Does anybody know how to achieve this? Cheers /thomas

plotting every ith data point?
Hello, fellow R enthusiasts. Ok, I've been racking my brain about this small issue, and between searching the help archives and reading through the plot-related documentation, I can't figure out how to achieve my desired endpoint without some ugly, brute force coding. What I would like to do is make a plot in which only a subset of my data are plotted, but in regular intervals, such as

ggplot2 Xlim
Hi: I need some help. I am ploting a bar graph but I can't adjust my x axis scale I use this code: i <- qplot(ForkLength,Number,data=FL,geom="bar") i + geom_bar(colour="blue",fill="grey65") # too crowded FL_dat <- ggplot(FL,aes(x=ForkLength,y=Number)) + geom_bar(colour="green",fill="grey65") FL_dat +

screen resolution effects on graphics
Greetings, R-Citizens: I have the good fortune of working with a 19" 1280 X 1024 pixel monitor. My R-code produces nice-looking graphics on this machine but the same code results in crowded plots on an older machine with 800 X 600 resolution. In hindsight this seems obvious, but I didn't anticipate it. My code will be used on machines with varying graphics (and memory) capacity. Is

How do you delete a session variable?
Hi Let''s say we set session[:foo] = ''bar''. Now we want to remove the :foo key completely. How do you do that? Appearantly, session is a CGI::Session [1] instance, so it doesn''t have #delete like Hash. I tried: session[:foo] = nil But then debug(session) shows an empty :foo key. I''d like to remove that key, as my session is already pretty crowded. Is

values in graph points
Hello, How to add x values in graph points? Thanks a lot, Romildo x <- c(22.44, 20.14, 15.85, 15.97) plot(x, type="n", axes=FALSE, ann=FALSE, labels=c(22.44, 20.14, 15.85, 15.97)) par(lwd=1) lines(x) points(x, pch=5, bg="grey", cex=1.5) axis(2, las=1) axis(1, at=1:4, lab=c("none", "50-50", "80-20", "90-10")) box()
