Making TIFF images with rtiff
Many medical journals and publishers require that images, whether photographs or line art, be submitted as high resolution .TIFF images. One option for R users is to produce an image in one format and to convert it to a .TIFF file using a second software program. My experience has been that this option often results in images of poorer quality, often with blurry contours, and a loss of

Lattice and high-resolution tiffs
Hi, I am trying to produce high-resolution (600dpi+) TIFF figures for use in a publication. Everything seems to work well when using the "normal" R-graphics and the relative text size obtained is independent of the output resolution. However, when I try and make lattice plots, the relative size of the text labels changes when I adjust the resolution - they become extremely small at high

Save generic plot to file (before rendering to device)
I am looking for a way to save a plot (graphics contents) to a file after the plot has been calculated but before it has been rendered. More specifically, assume that I made a plot that took a very long time to produce, I would like to save this plot to a generic file that I can later, on a different machine, render to either PDF, PNG, SVG using the usual R graphics devices, without recalculating

Things I don't understand about the graphics interface
Using R-1.1.1 on RedHatLinux 6.2. I've made some progress, succeeded in outputting bitmap, jpeg, and png files. Yipee. I did them with this command: > dev2bitmap("whatever.bmp",res=300) > dev.print(png, file="myplot.png", width=480, height=480) > dev.print(jpeg, file="myplot.jpg", width=480, height=480) > dev.print(pictex,

Using windows() and jpeg()
Hello, I have the following question, which I haven't been able to resolve after days of trying. I used to save my plots as jpegs using the savePlot command. However, that seems to result in lost resolution. So now I'm trying to use the jpeg( ) function, but am having trouble because it seems to be incompatible with the windows (width=, height=) command. It's important for me to

Generating EPS figures automatically (like Sweave)
Hello, Is there a way to generate EPS figures automatically out of a chunk of code? Basically, I would like to do something like Sweave does (I just find it a little cumbersome to create a .Rnw file and then keep track of the figure numbering). Thanks for your time. Ery Arias-Castro

tiff() woes
Hello all, a friend has a problem with tiff() which I was unable to help about. I searched the error messages to no avail. When he tries: tiff(filename = "FedeWhyDoesntThisBloodyWork.tif", width = 5, height = 5, units = "cm", bg = "white", res = 1200) Error in tiff(filename = "FedeWhyDoesntThisBloodyWork.tif", width = 5, : unable to start device

Truncated plot in the output file
Dear all, I made a large plot and wanted to save it as a tif file. I first opened and specified the size of the window. windows(12,17,rescale="fixed") Then I plot a heatmap using heatmap() when I saved the plot by using "Save as" in the file menu or savePlot("heatmap", type="tif"), the plot in the output tif file is truncated. Only the upper part of the

display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help I want to display an image file in a new plot frame. SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick). By way of background (although not material to this posting), the image file is generated by a call to 'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required .dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

Publication quality graphs
Dear all, A journal in which we wanted our manuscript published requires the figures as a tiff, eps or PowerPoint formated. I tried converting .jpeg files to these formats but it looses its quality both on the screen and on paper. Could some one please help. tiff(), jpeg(), and png() in R 2.7.0: problems if 'units = "in"' but default height and width
I love the new tiff(), jpeg(), and png() in R 2.7.0 but found an issue that I didn't see reported. When specifying 'units = "in"' but forgetting to change the default height and width (so the figure is unintentionally going to be 480 inches by 480 inches) I run into problems. Here's the reproducible example: tiff("a.tiff", units = "in", res = 1200,

Licensing issues
I was trying to figure out a license for the samples, and stumbled across a couple other issues that affect how we should be building wxWidgets for inclusion into our gem. If possible, we should NOT build in TIFF nor JPEG support, as both have special attribution requirements. Other wx modules do as well, but we don''t use them anyway (ODBC, wxXML, and wx 2.4 regex). For those of you

Lattice plot problem outputting to jpeg
Hi.....I am relatively new to R but was quite pleased with myself at having generated a series of lattice plots as PDFs. I was very surprised when plotting these out as jpegs (or png or tiff) that the strip title information above each lattice plot vanished. The pdf was fine. Has anybody any ideas? I can't add an image as the information is sensitive. Many Thanks Steve Creamer Here is the

Loop
Hi all, I want to execute a loop of a program: for (u in Timeframemin:Timeframe){} Imagine that Timeframemin<-10 Timefram<-10000 Is it posible to execute the loop but only proving from 10 to 10000 but jumping 10 each time, for example, execute for 10,20,30.....to Timeframe. Other question is, when a program is "heavy" and has a lot of loops to execute (how can I know where

how to save a heatmap.2 in png /jpeg /tiff
Hey, I am still working on my heat map (for those who are read my previous post about row.names)… Now, I would like to save my heat map.2 in .png or .tiff in order being able to work on the picture in photoshop, but it doesn't work. I'am using (as I have found on some forum) > png("heatmap.2.png) # and it just doesn't work. when I try doing it with::
