49 histograms on one page
Hi,
I want to do something like this:
par(mfrow=c(7,7))
for (i in 1:49)
hist(RATDACOM[SUBJNO==i],breaks=0.5+(0:6),
main="",xlab="",ylab="",xaxt="n",yaxt="n")
(Don't think about what RATDACOM and SUBJNO are.)
I get an error
Error in plot.new() : Figure margins too large.
36 histograms with mfrow=c(6,6) work.
But the 36 histograms

Unadulterated plot
To all,
Apologies if this question has already been asked but I can't find anything. I can't seem to think of more specific search terms. I want to display/create a file of a pure plot with a specific height and width. I want to utilise every single pixel inside the axes. I do not want to display any margins, legends, axes, titles or spaces around the edges. Is this possible?

Compact presentation of multiple figures
Dear r-helpers,
I have six panels: op(par(mfrow = c(2, 3), xaxt = 'n', yaxt = 'n',
pty = 's').
Each of them has a variable main = 'i', and xlab = '', ylab = ''
I would like to achieve two things:
(1) a common x-axis label under panel 5, and one label to the left of
panels 1 and 4
(2) minimal space between the panels.

multiple plots problem
hello,
i try to plot 3 graphs which have the same x.axis underneath each other. i'd
like the plots to be aligned without margings between the boxes and draw a
single x axis beneath the lowest plot.
i managed to get the alignment by setting par(mar), but the middle box is
stretched
and i cant't figure out how to get around this. par(pin) was my guess, but
this doesn't do the job

Plot Area Dimensions
Dear colleagues,
I wish to create a figure with 6 plots arranged vertically with no spacing
between them as they all have a common x-axis.
However, using the code below I'm unable to get the plot area the same size
for each plot.
The bottom plot with the x-axis label is smaller than the others, as is the
top plot which has larger margins.
How can I get the plot region the same size for

Stretch the x-axis for better alignment comparison
I have the following code that aligns the two graphs.
Problem is that in .pdf it gives me it x-axis (0-100) is broken down
into 0-20, 20-40..and so on.
I wonder if there is for it to display the x-axis (and y-axis) in more
detail than that.
I'd appreciate your input --

graph margins
Hello All,
I am drawing a graph having 18 small graphs inside using par(mfrow = c(6,3))
command. My problem is how to specify the margins of the whole 18 graphs. I
used par(mar=c(6.5, 6.5, 1.5, 1.5)) for each graph separately already but it
does not left any margins for the 'mtext()' for the margins of the whole 18
graphs. Any comments please.

Need a little help setting the upper median using "layout"...
The code I'm using is shown below.
I would like to have a larger median at the top of the plot so that I can show the entirity of "title_text".
Several times I tried messing with "par(mar", but that seemed to make matters worse.
By any chance can anyone provide any insight as to the best way to increase the top/upper/northern margin, so the entirity of the title is

Conditional plot labels
Hi all,
I'm trying to do multiple graphs in a window like this:

If I try to put the labels manually, some graphs become smaller than

Difficulty labeling plot axis when "mar" and "oma" are set

Though labeling the x and y axis in the plot command seems to be straight
forward, I can not get it to work if I do the following:

Spacing and margins in plot
If I use the following command to plot points:
plot(c(1,2,2,3,3,3), type="p", pch=20, ylab="Y Label", xlab="X Label", xaxt="n")
there is a large amount of space between the label "X Label" and the
actual x-axis. If I change the xaxt="n" to xaxt="s", the label "X

Hi dear list,
I'm scrambling with this:
i have a p-dimensional data frame for which i want to have a pairs() plot, with ellipse added in each lower.panel.
I want the ellipse's parameter (mu, sigma) to be extracted from the appropriate entries in a pre-computed matrix ("dab" in the code below).

Changing mtext direction, or using text for the margin?
Hi all,
I have read through the archives, but can't find a solution to this problem.
I need the text direction on "dependent B", plotted in margin 4, to go
top to bottom (opposite what it is now). Here's some sample code:

I am trying to plot my dataset, consisting of one column with numeric values and one column with group IDs.
The set is similar to the following df.

problem with putting text in outer margins (mtext outer=TRUE)
Hi there,
I'm trying to get some text in the outer margins of my plots and am
having trouble - the margin text is overlapping my plots, even though
the outer margin I'm trying to put it in is very big.
I've simplified my problem down to this:

Reccomendation for graphics package
Hello,
What would you recommend for producing publication-quality plots with R?
Built-in graphics, trellis, ggplot2, or something else?
Basic requirements:
- I need to draw line-, box-, density-plots, bar-charts and histograms
- error bars on bar- and box-plots
- easy tiling of multiple plots on a single "page"
Basic R plotting with mfrow and mfcol parameters is not satisfactory
