Add grid lines to levelplot
I'm using the levelplot function in the lattice package. I am plotting a grid of cells and I want grid lines drawn between cells. I've spent a lot of time trying different options. I've also looked at panel.levelplot. The border parameter seems to be ignored or it doesn't mean cell border color. The panel.levelplot calls grid.rect but forces lwd=1e-5 instead the passed lwd. On

Indexing multi-dimensional table
I want to take slices of a multi-dimensional table (or array) without knowing the number of dimensions in advance. As a test I tried using (in this example a 3d table): do.call(`[`, list(tbl, x,NULL,NULL)] where I built the list on the fly. It works great as long as I only want the first dimension however when I try a different dimension, say with list(tbl,NULL,x,NULL), I get

installation problems
Hi, I installed R-2.4.0 and R-2.4.1 on linux redhat (RHEL 3.0), and am encountering the following messages below. I searched the R FAQs and over the net, but couldn't find helpful information. When I "check-all" I do see some diff's (e.g., for "stats", nls.Rout and nls.Rout.save in tests/stats.Rcheck/tests; "cluster"; and "rpart'). I don't know

predict.rpart and large datasets
Hi folks, I'm getting the following error message when using predict.rpart on a large dataset (say 100,000 records) within Splus: Terminating S Session: Signal: bad address signal Has anyone run into this error, discovered a work-around, etc.? More generally, I'm trying to use predict.rpart to generate predictions from very large, geographic datasets (we're talking all of

suppress startup messages from default packages
Hi all, several packages print messages during loading. How do I avoid to see them when the packages are in the defaultPackages? Here is an example. With this in ~/.Rprofile ,----[ ~/.Rprofile ] | old <- getOption("defaultPackages") | options(defaultPackages = c(old, "filehash")) | rm(old) `---- I get as last line when starting R: ,---- | filehash: Simple key-value

Recommended way to change defaultPackages under Windows
What is the recommended way to change the default set of packages that are loaded at startup by R for Windows? I am writing vignettes for the Devore6 package which my introductory engineering statistics students will use and I would like to describe how the R environment can be changed so that this package is loaded by default. I understand from the R for Windows FAQ that one way would be to

Error: package or namespace load failed for ‘utils
Hi, When starting an embedded R I encounter the following issue under certain conditions: ``` Error: package or namespace load failed for ?utils? in if (.identC(class1, class2) || .identC(class2, "ANY")) TRUE else {: missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed ``` (more such errors for grDevices, graphics, and stats) And in the end: ``` Warning messages: 1: package ?utils? in

R and R commander
Hi, I am a student studying Biostatistics at University. We have been advised to install R and R commander. I managed to do this successfully, except I wasn't able to complete the final step - which would enable both R and R commander to launch when I open the R icon on my desktop. However, I haven't been able to save it and for this to work. The last instructions we were given are:

Converting Fortran or C++ etc to R
I'm going to try my hand at converting some Fortran programs to R. Does anyone know of any good articles giving hints at such tasks? I will post a selective summary of my gleanings. is "unintended library loading" actually possible?
Please, help me understand if 'use chroot' option in daemon config is secure enough. Rsync manual has following lines: As an additional safety feature, you can specify a dot-dir in the module's "path" to indicate the point where the chroot should occur.  This allows rsync to run in a chroot with a non-"/" path for the top of the transfer

Building R in 64-bit mode
Hope I am not sounding too much like a broken record - as far as 64-bit build on AIX is concerned. ** Short - 32-bit builds complete normally, 64-bit builds stop at "installing 'sysdata.rda'" with message: Error: Line starting 'Package: tools ...' is malformed! Execution halted *** Longer... I could file a bug - Importance, showstopper - but I would prefer to better

.Rprofile, date tagging history, loading packages
Dear R-Helpers, I'm fiddling with my .Rprofile in Windows XP & R 2.7.0 Beta. I prefer to manually save my workspace but automatically save my command history via the .Rprofile. That is working fine once I found that "utils::" was required before the loadhistory & savehistory functions. What I would like to do is add a separator line with a date between the histories of each

Unintended side-effect from before_remove_const?
Hey all, In troubleshooting a failing test for MetaSearch against 3-0-stable, I came across some undesirable (from my side, anyway) behavior in http://github.com/rails/rails/commit/bf87528b53f1422708ec0188d126cfca824ddc5c. A simple one-liner, it would appear, but AR::Base implements before_remove_const to do a bit of scoped method cleanup... It''s the only thing I can see that might
