Take marginality into account in factor.scope
Dear devellopeRs,
I've altered factor.scope() from the stats package so it can take
marginality into account. Therefore I've added the argument marginal.
When marginal is NULL, factor.scope() works like the original version.
The marginality is to be specified as a named list. The name of the
elements is the name of a variable. The content of the element is a
character vector with the

step() in sink() and Sweave()
Dear developers,
I just noticed that step() function currently prints the current model
using message(), but the resulting model using print(). The relevant
commands within the step() body are:
if (trace) message("Start: AIC=", format(round(bAIC, 2)), "\n",
cut.string(deparse(as.vector(formula(fit)))), "\n")
(with example() output:)
Start: AIC=190.69

R help: problems with step function
Dear List Members,
I have encountered two problems when using the step function to
select models. To better illustrate the problems, attached is an
R image which includes the objects needed to run the code attached.
lm.data.frame have factor variables with 3 levels.
The following run shows the first problem. AICs (* and **) are different.
I noticed that the Df for rs13482096:rs13483699 is 4,

stepAICc function (based on MASS:::stepAIC.default)
Dear all,
I have tried to modify the code of MASS:::stepAIC.default(), dropterm() and addterm() to use AICc instead of AIC for model selection.
The code is appended below. Somehow the calculations are still not correct and I would be grateful if anyone could have a look at what might be wrong
with this code...
Here is a working example:

Check for is.object
Hello,
I am trying to recursively append some data from multiple files into a
common object
For this, I am using in a loop
NewObject <- rbind(NewObject,tempObject)
For the first loop, obviously there is no NewObject ... so I wanted to do
NewObject <- tempObject[0,]
Now when it loops again I want to put the statement do "NewObject <-
tempObject[0,]" inside a if statement

Question about copying reference objects using the initialize method
Dears,
I have a question about copying reference objects using the initialize method.
1) If the latter has no arguments, there is no problem to copy an object.
myClass = setRefClass("myClass", fields = list(value = "numeric") )
myClass$methods(initialize = function(...){
? value <<- 1
? callSuper(...)
})
newObject = myClass$new()
newObject$value = 2

how about a "<p-" operator?
I was cursing Matlab again today (what else is new) because the default
action for every Matlab command is to spew the result to the console,
and one must remember to put that darn ";" at the end of every line.
So I just wondered: was there ever a discussion as to providing some
modified version of the "<-" and "->" operators in R to do the reverse?

Help need to define method of an s4 class
I need some help in defining a "print" method for my new S4 class
definition. So fer I have worked like this:

WINE install of Dreamweaver MX fails
Hello. I'm new to this forum.
Before I posted this, I did due diligence searching for an answer to my problem. I found and tried 2 possibles; but neither would work for me.
First my machine specs:
64 machine dual boot between WinXP and Ubuntu Janty Jackalope 9.04.
When I used Hardy Heron 8.04 last year, I was able to install Version 7.0 of Dreamweaver MX on a fluke.. I still don't know

variable scope
At the end of a for loop its variables are still present:
for (i in 1:10) {
x <- vector(length=100000000)
}
ls()
will print "i" and "x".
this means that at the end of the for loop body I have to write
rm(x)
gc()
is there a more elegant way to handle this?
Thanks.

step in Sweave
Dear peRsons,
I have a Sweave document which demonstrates the usage of step()
function. With current R version 2.5.0 the step() function was changed
so that the heading of trace=TRUE output for each model is printed using
command message():
if (trace)
message("\nStep: AIC=", format(round(bAIC, 2)),

1-Pearson's R Distance
Hi again List,
Well this time I’m writing for a friend (really J). He needs to create a
distance matrix based on an abundance matrix using the 1-Pearson’s R index.
Well I told him to look at the proxy package, but there is only Pearson
Index. He needs it to perform a clustering. Well, as soon as he told me
there proxy only had the Pearson index I thought: “He could just do

it gives me exactly what I want, but when I tried the same classifier

getElementsBySelector problem in IE
I''m having this problem with IE and getElementsBySelector, but am a
relative js novice, so quite possible -- likely even -- that I''m doing
something stupid. Either way, a fresh pair of eyes would help.
Basically I''m duplicating a fieldset within a form (so you can upload
more than one photo). [BTW, the fieldsets have a CSS id which relates
to the object id of the
