Problem Reading from .txt
I apologize that I've asked a similar question before, but being new to
R I don't think I did a very good job of formating the question.
I've included a text file since the date set is somewhat large.
What I have is a huge string of numbers in a text file. The numbers are
all separated by comma's and the groups are separated by a semicolon.
What I would like to do is read each

arrange data
Dear r-users,
I have dailly rainfall data from year 1971 to 2000. I use aggregate to form monthly rainfall data. What I don't understand is that the data for the year 2000 become on the top, instead of year 1971. Here are some codes and output:
agg_dt1 <- aggregate(x=dt1[,4],by=dt1[,c(1,2)],FUN=sum)
> head(agg_dt1,20); tail(agg_dt1,20)

Grouped Regression
HI All R Gurus,
Please reply directly to this email if you have a suggestion, as I am not
currently an R-help member.
I would like to complete a non-linear regression with groups. Having gone
down the path of completing such
things under GENSTAT, I would prefer to do it with R.
My example data set is...

Fitting of Non-Linear Diff Equations and Parameter Estimation
Hello Everybody,
I am running R 2.2.0 with Windows XP
i am trying to fit nonlinear differential equation to data sets which looks
like this:

7 20.4 212.6
8 19.4 232
9 34.2 266.2
10 35.4 301.6
and i need to fit these data to the following diff equation:
dNdt=a*N-b*N*C, dCdt=N^2,
Where a=birth rate, b=death rate and N=

temporal and spatial pseudorreplication with lmer
Dear all,
I am trying to fit a generalized linear mixed model to deal with both temporal and spatial pseudorreplication.
I have repeated seasonal measurements (3 seasons during 3 years and 2 season during the last year, factor named percod, with 11 levels) of a bird presence/absence (pres.f) on 14 artificial ponds (charca.f). The ponds are integrated in 4 greater spatial units (zepa). I have

arrange data
Hi r-users,
I have a data below but I would like to rearrange my data so that it will be in the following format: year, month, day, rain. I also would like the data to be arranged so that it will be continues for example year 1939 it will go from january 1 to december 31 and continue with year 1940 from january 1st to 31st December and so on. What I have now is all january for all the years

grDevices::convertColor and colorRamp(space='Lab') Performance Improvements
`grDevices::convertColor` performance can be improved by 30-300x with
small changes to the code. `colorRamp(space='Lab')` uses `convertColor`
so it too benefits from substantial performance gains.
`convertColor` vectorizes explicitly over the rows of the input color
matrix using `apply`. The level-1 patch [1] illustrates a possible
minimal set of changes to achieve this with just R

discrete hazard rate analysis
Dear R users,
I have more of a statistical/econometric question than straight R one.
I have a data set with the discrete hazard rate of small firms survival on
400 counties over a period of 9 years. This data was generated using census
information from the VAT registration number of each one of these business.
I would like to analyze the effect of regional factors (deprivation index,

Very weird network behaviour with 4.7-RELEASE-p10 (large)
Hi,
I have been doing some tests using hping2 and TCP SYN
pings targeting local and remote hosts from two FreeBSD
4.7-RELEASE-p10 and one Linux 2.4.18 host.
The three machines have the same hardware configuration
and have been running for 6 months now. The average load
isnt too high (usually 0.01 to 0.15) on the FreeBSD machines.
Here is the output from hping2 (excuse me the line wrap),

R and S-Plus got the different results of principal component analysis from SAS, why?
Dear Rusers,
I have met a difficult problem on explaining the differences of principal
component analysis(PCA) between R,S-PLUS and SAS/STATA/SPSS, which wasn't
met before.
Althought they have got the same eigenvalues, their coeffiecients were
different.
First, I list my results from R,S-PLUS and SAS/STATA/SPSS, and then show
the original dataset, hoping sb. to try and explain it.

Saludos.

Yahoo bug in tseries::get.hist.quote and its::priceIts
Both get.hist.quote, and its derivative priceIts, rely on download.file() to
fetch financial data series from Yahoo! in .csv format. They allow for nice
interactive demonstrations of what one can do with R.
Unfortunately, both are currently broken as Yahoo! decided to add a somewhat
useless html comment at the end of the csv 'stream', breaking the regular
format of n rows with k columns.

Using quasibinomial family in lmer
Dear R-Users,
I can't understand the behaviour of quasibinomial in lmer. It doesn't
appear to be calculating a scaling parameter, and looks to be reducing the
standard errors of fixed effects estimates when overdispersion is present
(and when it is not present also)! A simple demo of what I'm seeing is
given below. Comments appreciated?
Thanks,
