how to specify ggplot2 facet plot order
Hi, new to R and ggplot2. I've been trying to get a facet plot in which the order of the facets is as I require, rather than ordered numerically, alphabetically, by Roman numerals, mean (answers to these were posted here after much searching). Here's some test code to demonstrate what I get. series = c('C2','C4','C8','C10','C15','C20') ids =

restricted coefficient and factor in linear regression.
Hi, my data set is data.frame(id, yr, y, l, e, k). I would like to estimate Lee and Schmidts (1993, OUP) model in R. My colleague wrote SAS code as follows: ** procedures for creating dummy variables are omitted ** ** di# and dt# are dummy variables for industry and time ** data a2; merge a1 a2 a; by id yr; proc sysnlin maxit=100 outest=beta2; endogenous y; exogenous l e k

Function to Sort and test AIC for mixed model lme?
Hi List I'm running a series of mixed models using lme, and I wonder if there is a way to sort them by AIC prior to testing using anova (lme1,lme2,lme3,....lme7) other than by hand. My current output looks like this. anova (lme.T97NULL.ml,lme.T97FULL.ml,lme.T97NOINT.ml,lme.T972way.ml,lme.T97fc. ml, lme.T97ns.ml, lme.T97min.ml) Model df AIC BIC logLik

Speedups with Ra and jit
The topic of Ra and jit has come up on this list recently (see http://www.milbo.users.sonic.net/ra/index.html) so I thought people might be interested in this little demo. For it I used my machine, a 3-year old laptop with 2Gb memory running Windows XP, and the good old convolution example, the same one as used on the web page, (though the code on the web page has a slight glitch in it). This

Compiling OpenJDK8 with LLVM for mips64el
Hi all, Thanks for Aleksandar Beserminji great job: https://reviews.llvm.org/D50437 It is not easy to reproduce the LLVMBUG-38221[1] by building OpenJDK8, it needs some workaround https://raw.githubusercontent.com/xiangzhai/jdk8u-dev/master/Workaround-compile-with-llvm.patch LLVM toolchain[2] is just able to compile OpenJDK8 for mips64el now: http://hg.loongnix.org/ 1.

covariate selection?
Hello, I am hoping someone can help me with the following multivariate issue: I have a model consisting of about 50 covariates. I would like to reduce this to about 5 covariate for the reduced model by combining cofactors that are strongly correlated. Is there a package or function that would help me with this in R? I appreciate any suggestions. Thanks, Ian

Oja median
I discovered recently that the phrase "Oja median" produces no hits in Jonathan Baron's very valuable R search engine. I found this surprising since I've long regarded this idea as one of the more interesting notions in the multivariate robustness literature. To begin to remedy this oversight I wrote a bivariate version and then decided that writing a general p-variate version

ggplot2 boxplot confusion
Ultimately my aim is to get a plot of density faceted by 2 factors with a horizontal boxplot overlaid on each density plot in the grid to indicate summary stats. So I've been experimenting with creating boxplots and density plots. Here's some representative data. series = c('C2','C4','C8','C10','C15','C20') ids =

Testing for existence of object within a function
I'm trying to test for the existence of an object within a function, but despite searching the help files and R-list, I can't figure out how to do it. Here is some test code: #------------------------- a=1 #now I have a in the global environment tst <- function(a,b=1) { # but a is not in the local function environment print(exists("a", inherits=FALSE)) #This is how I think

R-alpha: Two buglets and a difference
I have come across three problems in the past few days, in spell of heavy R ( version R0.50-a4/Sun Solaris2.5.1 ) use. 1. I was using lwd=2 to get thicker lines on plots for printing, but although the 'lwd' parameter works fine with x11(), the thickened lines do not print with print.plot, or by using postscript() directly. 2. Try the following, plot(1:10, -(1:10))
