Linux editor for R+LaTeX, but not Emacs
Using Tinn-R (in windows) is possible to run latex and R from the same editor, which was great. Now, I am using Ubuntu-linux, which has been better than WinXP. Currently, I am using Emacs (and then install ESS) for running LaTeX and R from a same editor-program (like i was doing with Tinn-R in windows). Nevertheless, and even though i have been using Emacs for almost 2 years, it is not as

Best R text editors?
Quick informal poll: what is everyone's favorite text editor for working with R? I'd like to hear from people who are using editors that have some level of direct R interface (e.g. Tinn-R, Komodo+SciViews). Thanks! --j -- Jonathan A. For Loop Syntax
Hi there, Just wondering if someone can help me with the correct syntax to use with for loops? I have split my original file by count, & wish to first of all assign new tables based on the splits. Then I just want to create a new variable. Please see code below. This code works outside of a loop so I am just trying to code so I don't have to repeat numerous times. Many

Running Edit() or Fix() on Linux Machine
Hi all, As I am new to using R on a Linux machine I have another question if that's ok. I am trying to use the fix() or edit() function on this Linux machine but I get the following error message: Error in dataentry(datalist, modes) : invalid device In addition: Warning message: In edit.data.frame(get(subx,envir=parent),title = subx, ...) : Unable to create fontset

best editor for .R files
Which is the best editor for .R files? I currently use kate on my linux as it has R highlighting and allows me to split the window into two: in one I edit the .R file and in the other I have a shell so I run R and can easily copy and paste the code. There are some features that I don't like and I am having a look on some alternatives. I've heard wonders of emacs with ess but I am a

Most used R editors
Hi, I am a little lonely as R users in my group. So, I would like to know which editor is the most used in the R community. This post is some kind of survey. Personally, I use Emacs with ESS, It permits to : - open more than one R session - split the emacs editor as many part as you want. - use a lot of keybindings. ... I also tried Rkwards, Scilab (windows), JGR etc... but they are not

good editor for R sources ?
Dear all, (Sorry if the question has already been answered.) Could someone please suggest a good text editor for writing R sources ? (I know emacs exists ... but I find it a bit heavy). I use crimson (http://www.crimsoneditor.com) which is small and simple, but the R syntax seems not to be supported. Thanks for any advice

best text editor for Linux?
Hi all, I know this question has been asked in the past, but I am wondering if anyone running R on Linux has any guidance as to a text editor that works well with R. At the present time I am running R on Windows and using TINN-R. For a number of reasons I want to switch to Linux, but can't find much in the way of a text editor in sync with R. Any experiences, recommendations would be

Hello, I am new on Ubuntu. I would like to use R, but I tried Kate and Scite. The first one keeps trying to use KDE applications, while the other does not understand the language. I have searched for another editor for hours, in vain. Which editor should work with Ubuntu? I am looking forward to your answer, thanks, Camille

kate editor for R
Like kile for LaTeX, Linux/KDE's kate editor is an excellent editor for R, with easy code submission to a running R process. Syntax highlighting is good. I have not been able to figure out two things: - how to automatically reformat a line or region of text using good indentation rules (Emacs/ESS make this so easy by just hitting Tab while the cursor is in a line, or highlighting a

Scripting with an external editor
I've had time to return to the "external editor" project. The following function does almost what I want, which is to allow an external editor to feed command lines to R. ext.editor<-function(editor) { ext.input<-pipe(editor,"r") eval(parse(ext.input)) close(ext.input) } While the description of parse() indicates that it should parse input line by line, the

Graphics 'snapshots' in Linux?
Hi, I'm working on a MEPIS (Debian-based Linux) computer, using the emacs/ESS package to do my R work. I've got some plots that I label interactively using the locate function. With the Windows GUI there is an option to take a snapshot of the graphics output, saving it as an image file. Is there a way to do this with emacs/ESS? Thanks, Tyler

Linux Editor
Hi Everyone, I recently have started using R again on a Linux box after spending several years on a Mac. Last I checked, the best way to use R was through EMACS using something like ESS. I remember that being serviceable but not always the most convenient. Is there anything comparable to the mac version of R with its built in console, editor, etc?? thanks! -- View this message in context:

Emacs & ESS under Windows
After the discussions about appropriate editors under Windows to use with R, I have managed to install Emacs, XEmacs, and ESS under WinNT 4.0, and these work fine. It's not necessary to compile anything to use R with ESS, just to install Emacs and ESS, and do a few modifications in some files. XEmacs is also easy to install but apparently ESS cannot run with it (confirmed by a message by Tony
