multiple graphics windows open
Dear R People:
Now I have a function with 3 graphics windows. I'd like for them all
to be visible. However, the first window goes blank. Here is the
basic setup. The first plot is the entire series. The user selects
two points, which in turns generates a subset plot and an EWMA subset
plot. Finally, if things worked right, the user should be able to
click on "Tile Vertically"

violating.runs
I read from the news
cran.r-project.org/doc/Rnews/Rnews_2004-1.pdf
that the criteria for the violating is 5 but
1)I cannot find "5" in the code of the function. Where is the "5" ?
2)What is the easiest way to change it ?
3)Is there any more criterias made somewhere ?

Dear R People:
Sorry for the off topic question, but here it goes: could someone
recommend a good bash shell programming book, please?
Thanks,

question about Software for Data analysis book
Dear R People:
I'm sure that this is a very silly question, but I'm reading the
Software for Data analysis book by John Chambers, and I can't find the
"Declination" data that he refers to on page 15 in the book.
I did all of the usual stuff:
library(help=SoDA)
??Declination
looked for it online but to no avail.
Has anyone else run into this, please?
Any help would be

plotting moving range control chart
I have been having the same problem as poster Hodgess, below. It appears
that her question was never answered, so I would like to share a solution
with the community.
The problem is the (apparent?) inability to produce moving range process
behavior (a.k.a. "control") charts with individuals data in the package
"qcc" (v. 2.0). I have also struggled with the same limitation in

omitting columns from a data frame
Dear R People:
I have a data frame, xm1, which has 12 rows and 4 columns.
If I put is xm1[,-4], I get all rows, and columns 1 - 3, which is as
it should be.
Now, is there a way to use the names of the columns to omit them, please?
Thanks so much in advance!
Sincerely,
Erin

question from Braun/Murdoch book
Hi R People:
I am looking at the Braun/Murdoch book, " A First Course in
Statistical Programming in R", and I have a question about a function
there. It's on page 52, Example 4.5; the sieve of Erastosthenes.
There is a line:
primes <- c()
Is there a difference between using that and
primes <- NULL
please?
When you put in primes <- c(), primes comes back as NULL.

Coding of categorical variables for logistic regression?
Hello,
I am trying to do a logistic regression and have one predictor variable
(x) that is ratio and two predictor variables (y and z) that are
categorical. These have three levels each which I have called "High",
"Medium" and "Low".
My question: do I need to use a numerical coding scheme for the
categorical variables as required by some statistical software

strange behavior for RcmdrPlugin.qual
Hello!
Over the weekend, I updated my RcmdrPlugin.qual package.
It works fine on a 64 bit Windows machine but not a 32 bit. This is very strange. The new menu with all of the Quality Control stuff does not appear.
Have any of you run into this sort of thing before, please?
Thanks,
Sincerely,
Erin

Problem with compiling OpenBLAS to work with R
I believe that repo just follows the directions on my blog. Without seeing
Dr. Hodges?s code, my initial concern is the many references to Cygwin. My
method specifically does not use Cygwin but MSYS2 and Mingw64/Rtools35.
That will likely change to solely Rtools40 once R3.6 is released due to the
Msys system being built in to it.
There may be some library conflicts between Cygwin and

Dear R People:
I have generated the following table:

2009-04-22 4 2

2009-04-26 2 0

However, instead of total counts in the F and M columns, I would like percents.
How would I do this, please?
thanks,

replicating C example from the Extensions Manual problem
Dear R People:
Here is something that I am sure is very simple. I'm just trying to
re-create the C convolution example in the Extensions manual. Here is
the subroutine:
void convolve(double *a, int *na, double *b, int *nb, double *ab)
{
R_len_t i, j, nab = *na + *nb - 1;
for(i = 0; i < nab; i++)
ab[i] = 0.0;
for(i = 0; i < *na; i++)
for(j = 0; j < *nb; j++)
ab[i + j] += a[i] *

attr question
Dear R People:
When I want to produce a small sample confidence interval using
t.test, I get the following:
> t.test(buzz$var1, conf.level=.98)$conf.int

attr(,"conf.level")
[1] 0.98
How do I keep the attr statement from printing, please? I'm sure it's
something really simple.
Thanks,

Building R from source with the PGI compiler
Hello
I would like to build R from source and use the PGI compiler, rather than
the GCC compiler.
I saw the instructions for the Intel compiler in the R Installation Manual,
but I didn't see the PGI. I tried a few times without instructions, but
without success.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Also, I hope this is the right
group for the question.
