Read stata file from internet?
Dear R-helpers, I would like to have my students read into R an online Stata dataset: 'http://www.stat.ucla.edu/projects/datasets/risk_project.dta' I was able to read it into R after downloading it and converting it with StatTransfer (http://www.stattransfer.com/). Here is what happens when I use read.dta() as I would use read.table(): > require(foreign) > risk2 <-

ordered logistic regression of survey data with missing variables
Hello: I am working with a stratified survey dataset with sampling weights and I want to use multiple imputation to help with missingness. 1. Is there a way to run an ordered logistic regression using both a multiply imputed dataset (i.e. from mice) and adjust for the survey characteristics using the weight variable? The Zelig package is able to do binary logistic regressions for survey

Test for stochastic dominance, non-inferiority test for distributions
Dear R-Users, Is anyone aware of a significance test which allows demonstrating that one distribution dominates another? Let F(t) and G(t) be two distribution functions, the alternative hypothesis would be something like: F(t) >= G(t), for all t null hypothesis: F(t) < G(t), for some t. Best wishes, Matthias PS. This one would be ok, as well: F(t) > G(t), for all t null

Hi , library(foreign) write.dta(data1, "data1.dta") should work. The file will be saved in the working directory. Use getwd() to know the working directory. Importing STATA files
I'm an R novice who is struggling with the importation STATA files into R. I've loaded "foreign" and tried the example based on the Swiss file, which works fine. I then placed a STATA file, auto6.dta, in my working directory, which is "C:\Program Files\R\rw1030\library\base\data". The following is what happened: > library(foreign) > read.dta(auto6) Error in

I''m using the mongrel_cluster recipes for Capistrano as laid out by codahale.com and the new ed. of the Agile Development book, but I''m having problems on restart and stop: I can start: [root current]# mongrel_rails cluster::start Starting 3 Mongrel servers... And I can see 3 processes running: [root current]# ps aux | grep mongrel mongrel 1947 0.0 8.2 24684 10776 ?

Possible bug in foreign library import of Stata datasets
Concerning this article, Christopher Zorn, "Generalized Estimating Equation Models for Correlated Data: A Review with Applications." 2001. American Journal of Political Science 45(April):470-90. The author very kindly provides data for replication on his web page: http://www.emory.edu/POLS/zorn/Data/GEE.zip. I've been comparing the Professor Zorn's results obtained with

Link functions in SEM
Is it possible to fit a structural equation model with link functions in R? I am trying to build a logistic-regression-like model in sem, because incorporating the dichotomous variables linearly seems inappropriate. Mplus can do something similar by specifying a 'link' parameter, but I would like to be able to do it in R, ofcourse. I have explored the 'sem' package from John Fox,

Explaining Survival difference between Stata and R
Dear Everybody: I'm doing my usual "how does that work in R" thing with some Stata projects. I find a gross gap between the Stata and R in Cox PH models, and I hope you can give me some pointers about what goes wrong. I'm getting signals from R/Survival that the model just can't be estimated, but Stata spits out numbers just fine. I wonder if I should specify initial

Survey Design / Rake questions
I'm trying to learn how to calibrate/postStratify/rake survey data in preparation for a large survey effort we're about to embark upon. As a working example, I have results from a small survey of ~650 respondents, ~90 response fields each. I'm trying to learn how to (properly?) apply the aforementioned functions. My data are from a bus on board survey. The expansion in the
