matrix merge problem
Dear r-help contributors,
I have two questions:
first:
I have a matrix A and a vector B.
I want to make a new matrix C, which is made of the rows of A having a value
included in B.
Second:
I have two matrixes A and B, of different dimensions.
B has unique values in column 2 and A has not unique values on column 2.
I want to merge this two matrixes by the values in the columns 2 of B and 2

Creating multiple graphs based on one variable
Dear List,
I would like to create several graphs of similar data. I have x and y values for several different individuals (in this case fish). I would like to plot the x and y values for each fish separately. I can do it using a for loop, but I think I should be using "apply". Please let me know what I am doing wrong, or if there is a "better" way to do this. What I have

"taking the log then later exponentiate the result" query
Hi,
I am trying to figure out the observed acceptance rate and M, using generalised rejection sampling to generate a sample from the posterior distribution for p.
I have been told my code doesn't work because I need to "take the log of the expression for M, evaluate it and then exponentiate the result." This is because R is unable to calculate high powers such as 545.501.

Power curves
Hi,
I am trying to create a power curve to show how the power of a t-test varies depending on the mean. Any ideas how I should go about this?

Object-oriented programming in R
Dear R-users,
I have very recently started learning about object-oriented programming
in R. I am far from being an expert in programming, although I do have
an elementary C++ background.
Please take a look at these lines of code.
> some.data = data.frame(V1 = 1:5, V2 = 6:10) ;
> p.plot = ggplot(data=some.data,aes(x=V1, y=V2)) ;
> class(p.plot) ;

Inverse Gaussian Distribution
Dear,
I want to fit an inverse gaussion distribution to a data set.
The predictor variables are gender, area and agecategory.
For each of these variables I've defined a baseline
e.g.
#agecat: baseline is 3
data<-transform(data, agecat=C(factor(agecat,ordered=TRUE),
contr.treatment(n=6,base=3)))
The variable 'area' goes from A to F (6 areas: A,B,C,D,E,F)
How can i

Power curve for a wilcoxon test
Hi,
I am trying to write R code to produce a power curve to show how the power of a
Wilcoxon-test varies depending on the mean, with data generated from a uniform distribution. Any ideas how I should go about this?Louisa

Gamma & Lognormal Model
Dear,
I'm very new to R Gui and I have to make an assignment on Gamma Regressions.
Surfing on the web doesn't help me very much so i hope this forum may be a
step forward.
The question sounds as follows:
The data set is in the library MASS
first install library(MASS)
then type data(mammals)
attach(mammals)
Assignment:
Fit the gamma model and lognormal model for the mammals data.

ggplot: Problem with legend background
Dear R-users,
I am preparing graphs for an upcoming article using the different functions
of the ggplot2 package and I've been having problems with the legend
background. It doesn't seem to scale when the text size is increased. Here's
the mandatory reproducible example:
library(ggplot2)
repFrame <- data.frame(A= 1:10, B= rnorm(1:10), groupNum = rep(c("First

make check for R-1.6.2 on IBM AIX
Dear all,
The 'make check' step fails for the pacakge mva on IBM AIX.
The tail of the Rout log file looks like:

Call:
factanal(factors = factors, covmat = Harman23.cor)

Aggregate Table Data into Cell Frequencies
R-help -
I have this set of aggregated tables (sample data below via dput()). And I
would like to have delayValue as the column variables with the "temp"
(temp1, temp2, temp3) values as the row variables. However I would like to
have the temp variables *aggregated into single rows* so that I have the
frequency ("Freq" | counts) of each time each "delayValue" occurs

plotting picture data
Hi R users
I have a dataset which represents points that are market by patients as the
source of pain.
Basically the patients indicates by a cross on a chest pictures where he/she
thinks is the
source of pain. The data was then digitalized by divinding the chest into
small squares and each
square was give value 1 if it was the center 2 if it was touched by the

sorting a matrix by the column
this is a bad question but I can't figure it out and i've tried. if i
sort the 2 column
matrix , temp1, by the first column, then things work as expected. But,
if I sort the 1 column matrix, temp2, then it gets turned coerced to a
vector. I realize that I
need to use drop=FALSE but i've put it in a few different places with no
success. Thanks.

I am using R 2.1.1 in an windows XP environment.
I have 2 dataframes, temp1 and temp2.
Each dataframe has 20 variables (“cocolumns") and 525 observations (“rows”). All variables are numeric.
I want to create a new dataframe that also has 20 columns and 525 rows. The values in this dataframe should be the sum of the 2 other dataframe.

serialized attribute converting to string on reload
Hello,
Anybody help me out? I done googled it good and didn''t find anything
(which should mean that I''ve done something wrong).
Not much code to talk about here, quite simply I have an attribute
that is serialzied and when I update it, irb shows the object and my
methods run on it as it were indeed so. Though when I reload it
changes the data to a string. Not yaml, just one

I ahve this weird results with identical (probably I am not understanding
correctly what it does ...)
I have these two data frames and I issue :

However, these data frames are Nx2 and when I issue:

[1] TRUE
> identical(temp[,1], temp1[,1])

?max (so far...)
Hi,
I have a data.frame that is date ordered by row number - earliest
date first and most current last. I want to create a couple of new
columns that show the max and min values from other columns *so far* -
not for the whole data.frame.
It seems this sort of question is really coming from my lack of
understanding about how R intends me to limit myself to portions of a
data.frame. I get the
