Speeding up ActiveRecord creation?
My completely empty model (no validation callbacks etc etc) takes an
average of 0.05 seconds to create, at least according to
Benchmark.realtime{200.times{Message.create(:from =>
"me@here.com", :message_type => ''email'',
:subject => "hello", :body => "goodbye", :sent_at => Time.now)}}/200

ActiveRecord, using sql functions for some attributes
Hi.
I need to use functions INET_ATON, INET_NTOA for IP address retrieving.
Is it possible to make this transparently (without custom SQL for
saving, updating and retrieving)?

Symlinks for Windows
Hi all,
Dave Burt mentioned the possibility of adding symlinks
to the Dir class.
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/misc.shtml#junction
There is also Autrijus Tang''s symlink Perl module at
http://search.cpan.org/~autrijus/Win32-Symlink-0.04/
Looks easy enough, but it only seems to work for
directories, not regular files. Should we add this to
the Directory class, or simply

Rails on IIS
I just spent the last two days trying to get Rails on IIS to work with
Windows 2003/IIS 6.0. I think I''ve finally got it working, but it took
more googling than I care to describe. Now I''ve got a few questions:
1) Is there some ''official'' Rails on IIS guide on this site on another
official ruby site that''s known to work well?
2) If not, can someone

New Docs - First Look
Ok, my first complete swipe for the new docs (but still with old rdoc
default output templates) can be seen at:
http://www.mktec.com/dev_www/wxruby-docs/
Most of the classes/methods documentation came out fine, but I still
need finetune because some methods don''t get documented at all, like
methods in the classes Bitmap and Frame.
Once I can get it so all things get documented

Rails namespace help requested
Hi all -
I posted yesterday with the subject "namespace pollution" and with the
high traffic on this list, it''s kind of disappeared and I''m in need of
a quick answer so i can move on. To recap quickly, can someone tell
if Rails is somehow forcing all modules into a single namespace? I

wxruby-swig: Converting to REXML
Since I''m setting up my development environment on a new system, I
figure now is the time to get rid of one of the extra dependencies: NQXML.
It appears that REXML can now parse the whole classes xml file in about
20 seconds on this machine, which is a huge improvement over the many,
many minutes it used to take. So I am now updating extract.rb to use
REXML instead of NQXML.

ActiveRecord outside of rails
I have a few questions regarding using activerecord outside of rails.
Usage is with legacy databases, which gives rise to some of the
problems.
Probably the first, and most simple question though, is how to capture
the SQL log, with which I can hopefully figure the other stuff out.
I''m currently trying
ActiveRecord::Base.logger = Logger.new STDOUT
Based on random googles, but it

We aren''t at the second look yet (because i dont'' have arguments in the

weren''t documented (like the class Frame). Now the only methods that are
