pgfSweave doesn't lazyload my objects
Hi all,
I'm struggling a bit to get pgfSweave to lazyload objects when compiling
a .Rnw file for a second time. Caching works fine except that for every
run all objects get cached again and again. I've used cacheSweave which
works fine; all cached objects from code-chunks with option cache = TRUE
are lazy loaded. I've tried it on two machines ... I'm pretty sure I'm

Failed "make check" under Fedora Core 4 (PR#7979)
I downloaded R v2.1.1 earlier this morning to compile under Fedora Core
4. It compiled without incident, but 'make check' failed. Below is the
relevant part of its report. Is this a known problem?
I used a locally compiled version of GCC v4.0.0 that reports

AIX testers needed
Per the request to test the latest tarball referenced below, I have
built R on AIX 5.3. There is a memory issue, please see 3) below.
1) Build with --enable-BLAS-shlib option. Builds and
passes "make check".
2) GNU libiconv was installed; R configured *without*
the --without-
iconv option. Builds and passes "make check."

Look, Watson! La.svd & ATLAS
Dear R-devel,
I had attempted to compile r-devel (dated Oct. 31, 2001) on WinNT with link
to ATLAS, with mostly success. However, when I tried the following, I got a
visit from Dr. Watson:

Error: cannot allocate vector of size x Gb (64-bit ... yet again)
Hello,
I am facing the dreaded "Error: cannot allocate vector of size x Gb" and
don't understand
enough about R (or operating system) memory management to diagnose and
solve the problem
-- despite studying previous posts and relevant R help -- e.g.:
"Error messages beginning cannot allocate vector of size indicate a

Xapply question
Dear list,
I'm stuck with looking for a function of the *apply family, which I suppose
exists already ? just I can't find it:
What I'm looking for is somewhere between sweep and mapply that does a
calculation vectorized over a matrix and a vector:
It should work complementary to sweep: for each row of the matrix, a different
value of the vector should be handed over.

rexp, different results on 32/64 bit
Hi all,
I just run into this today. Apparently rexp() sometimes gives different
slightly results for the same seed on 32 bit and 64 bit machines. runif()
is the same for both, so the problem seems to be in rexp().
64 bit Linux is the same as 64 bit OSX, and R-devel gives the same results
as R-3.0.2.
Best,
Gabor

64-bit R on Mac OS X 10.5.4
Hi Matt
Your method is the easiest way for me to install the 64-bit R. I followed the directions on your web site and then did the following:
R --arch=x86_64
source("http://bioconductor.org/biocLite.R")
biocLite(type = "source",lib = "/Library/Frameworks/R.framework/Versions/2.8/Resources/RLib64")
I got many errors and warnings which I copied to the attached file.

Writting my own package - 64 bit problem with R_GetCCallable
Hello list,
I've been working on a package of my own. It works fine on the 32bit
linux machines that I've tested it on. Someone using 64bit ubuntu
wanted to try it, and surprising segfaults happened. My test code
results in no segfault, errors, or leaks from my calls when run under
valgrind (I recompiled R with the level 2 valgrind instruments). R
and packages are compiled from source,

R-devel & ATLAS generates Dr. Watson on NT (was RE: Look, Wa tson! La.svd & ATLAS)
Prof. Bates & R-devel,
I've done more test with the following results:
I have two versions of ATLAS 3.2.1. One was compiled on my old Thinkpad
600E (PII), the other was compiled on my new Thinkpad T22 (PIIISSE1).
I compiled R-devel dated 10/31, 11/01 and 11/04, linked against either of
the two ATLAS libs. All gave Dr. Watson when given this code:

Installing locales in Fedora
Not specifically an R question, but hopefully some Fedora users might
know the answer. I am creating an rpm for an R application that uses
en_US.UTF-8:
Sys.setlocale(category='LC_ALL', 'en_US.UTF-8');
Sys.setenv(LANG="en_US.UTF-8")
On my own Fedora installation, en_US.UTF-8 was installed by default.
However this was an English system, so I am not sure this will be
