understanding cex (R plots)
Hi, I try to make multiple plots look as similar as possible. I create each plot with pdf(), using the same height but different width in inch. For some plots I use the layout() function to draw multiple subplots side by side in one pdf. For each plot I use the same cex values for the different plotting functions (cex.axis, cex.lab, cex.points etc.) Still, when I compare the pdf's the

autoscaling plot font size in Sweave output possible?
Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to have fonts in plots to be autoscaled to the same font size used by LaTeX in a surrounding Sweave document. Here's a short example in which the fonts of the first plot are barely readable: --8<------------------------schnipp------------------------->8--- \documentclass{article} \usepackage{graphicx} \newcommand{\mytext}{Some normal sized

adjusting plot vs font size in a plot
Hello: I am using plot() in rpart, making a decision tree plot. I use plot() first, then text() followed, but I think due to the figure vs. text size, the bottom of the text always gets cut off. I can only "see" the text of the bottom of the tree if I make the font size REALLY small. I think is shouldn't be a specific rpart question, but rather a general plotting technique

Giant font on the R plots...
Hello, I've been facing a really stupid problem... When I try to plot using heatplot or hclust or any similar function, the labels of the x-axis - which are the samples names - are giant & overlapping. I can't even read the samples names! I tried cex.lab = 0.5, it helped only with the y axis and not the x-axis... Any help please?! -- View this message in context:

intensity map / plot
Dear R-list, I would like to generate an intensity map based on a x * y matrix. Each point in the matrix should get plotted at the coordinate: x = column / y = row with a color-intensity (for example gray-value) based on the actual value of this point. Is there a convenient package / function for this kind of plot? example data: x <- matrix(rnorm(100*100, 0, 2), 100, 100) thanks!

Warnings when plotting after x11() in R 2.14.2
Dear R-help, I recently upgraded from R 2.13.1 to R 2.14.2 and now get warning messages when plotting after using x11(). Example: > plot(rnorm(10)) ### no warnings > x11(); plot(rnorm(10)) Warning messages: 1: In axis(side = side, at = at, labels = labels, ...) : Font family not found in Windows font database 2: In axis(side = side, at = at, labels = labels, ...) : Font family not

How to control plotting formula above lm diagnostic plots?
Dear All, I am trying to plot four diagnostic plots for my lm in one window. Here is some random data for an example: a = rnorm(20, mean=2, sd=0.2) b = rnorm(20, mean=1, sd=0.4) model=lm(a~b) When I set the page as: par(mfrow=c(1,1), oma=c(1,0,2,0)) and plot my model: plot(model) above all four plots the formula lm(a~b) is printed. What is interesting if I set the page to have two

very large pair() plot
Hi everyone, I'm a newbie and this is my first post. My boss wants me to make a series of scatter plots where 76 variables are plotted against each other. I know how to do this using pair()...my problem is that there are just too many plots to fit in the window. Is there any way I can get all the plots to fit and make the font size and marker size scale so it is readable? My goal is to

barplot - how to force vertical axis to cover entire plot area
I'm using barplot with the following call: barplot(stat_data[[5]][,],axes=TRUE,axisnames=TRUE,axis.lty=1,xlab=xlab,ylab=ylab,beside=TRUE,las=1,font.lab=2,font.axis=1,legend.text=TRUE) On some data, the vertical axis does not cover the whole plot area and the last tick mark is smaller than the maximum value. I tried setting the ylim values but even with that, some plots are still not OK,

font size in the trellis plot
>library(lattice) >dotplot(variety ~ yield | site, data = barley, groups = year, key = simpleKey(levels(barley$year), space = "right"), xlab = "Barley Yield (bushels/acre) ", aspect=0.5, layout = c(1,6), ylab=NULL) and i get the plot whose font overlaps .what parematers should i change.(i do not want to change the size of the plot).

panel.text and saving to pdf
Dear all, I am not sure what I am doing wrong, but I have some unexplained behaviour when saving a lattice graph including text to a pdf file. The text seems to move around. It must have something to do with the way coordinates are set in devices other than jpg. Any suggestions would be helpful Willem Here is some example code setwd("c:/willem/research/misc") today <-

How to get special (Hershey) font symbols into plot axis labels?
Dear R experts- I'm running R 1.2.3 (2001-04-26) on Linux. I need to get special symbols, such as a circle with a dot in it as used to indicate Solar units in astronomy, into my plot axis labels. How can I do this? Using the R documentation on the Hershey font sets, one can plot a Solar symbol within the world coordinates of a plot like this: >plot(1:10,1:10)

Font size R
Hi everyone. I'm using this following code: pdf(file="Fig5.pdf", width = 4.86, height = 6.29, pointsize = 10, family ='Times') par(mfcol = c(3,2), mai = c(0.4,0.8,0,0), omi = c(0.7, 0, 0.7, 0.1)); hist( rnorm(100) ) dev.off() When I open this in any vectorial software (like Illustrator), it says that my font size is 7 instead of 10 that I specified. I have tried

How to change the font of any help page
Dear all, when I open the help page of any R function, the help page opens with my default browser. However I am not happy with Font of the help page, which probably set as 'Times new roman'. : Arial font for text in lattice plots under Linux
Hi, I have been asked by a publisher to change the font style of a lattice plot in my manuscript. I have consulted documentation on trellis graphics and the excellent book "R graphics", but am still not sure how I could create plots with Arial as the font style for text in the plot. I am running R (Version 2.3.1 (2006-06-01)) under debian Linux. I have msttcorefonts installed.

Change font size in Windows
My day for dumb questions. How do I increase the type size in the Rgui console in Windows? (R-2.13.0, Windows 7) It looked to me that I just needed to change the font spec in Rconsole but that does not seem to be working. The R FAQ for Windows has a reference in Q3.4 to changing fonts, (Q5.2), but I don't see anything relevant there. Rconsole originally was: font = TT Courier New points =

3D plot with coordinates
Thanks a lot for the reply.After ?looking at different parts of the code today I was able to start with simple 2D polar plots as the attached pdf file. ?In case the attachment is not visible I used the plot.polar function to create something like that.https://vijaybarve.files.wordpress.com/2013/04/polarplot-05.png Now the idea now will be to put three of those (for X,Y,Z) in a 3d rotatable plane.

Legend Text Font Size
Hi. I have a plot containing a large number of lines. I have placed a legend in the plot, but with so many lines, the legend takes up a lot of space. I have tried to reduce the spacing between the lines using the legend parameter x.intersp=0.7, but this does not compress the legend enough. Is there some way to make the text font size smaller in "legend"? Thanks, RH.

AW: How to improve the quality of curve/line plots?
Thanks for the tip using a smoothing technique before plotiing in order to get a curve instead of a line connecting the observations. But that's not the solution for my main problem with the "unclean" line plot. In order to show my problem let's take this simple example: > xval <- c(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) > yval <- c(10, 30, 40, 50, 70, 90, 100, 110) > plot
