POSIXct-coerced NA's not considered NA by is.na()
Hello folks, I found a strangeness while experimenting with POSIXct vectors and lists. It seems that coerced NA's aren't "real" NAs, at least as considered by is.na()? > date_vec = c(as.POSIXct(now()), as.POSIXct(now()+1),NA,"b") > date_vec [1] "2012-08-22 15:00:46 COT" "2012-08-22 15:00:47 COT" NA [4] NA Warning message: In

remote database queries
With good and faithful python remote database queries look something like this: url.urlopen("username/pssword at host",query) where query is something like "select * from table where ...." Does R support queries on remote hosts with username and password? What does a simple example look like? Thank you.

ESRI Shapefile for EU-25
Hi all, who knows how to get an ESRI Shapefile for the NUTS-2 Regions of the enlarged European Union? Particularly I want to draw maps of Germany, Poland, Czech Republik, Hungary and Austria. I've found Shapefiles for the US, Russia and other countries elsewhere in the web, but for Europe it seems really difficult. With many thanks for any hint Albrecht
