pair matching
Given two numeric vectors of possibly unequal length, I'd like to pair
each element of the shorter vector with an element of the longer
vector such that the sum of squared differences between the pairs is
minimized. Can someone point me to an R function or an algorithm for
accomplishing this?
All the best,

[ggplot2] Wind rose orientation
Aloha all,
I love using ggplot. It took a while to get used to the grammar of
graphics, but it is starting to get easy now that I am thinking in a
more structured way.
A question. I'm making a wind rose that I'd like to be oriented with
due north straight up. I've discovered that the orientation is
sensitive to how north is represented. When north is represented as

I attach the patch that I used on my system to add this feature

Problem with example(medpolish) in R-devel
Today's R-devel has a problem in `example(medpolish)'. It appears that
the `plot.medpolish' method is not available. Here is the output and

bug fix integer overflow in medpolish function
Dear R team
I noticed a bug in the "medpolish" function in the "stats" package.
When I run medpolish(x), with "x" the matrix in the attached .rda file,
I get this rather cryptic error:
"Error in if (converged) break : missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed
In addition: Warning message:
In sum(abs(z), na.rm = na.rm) : integer overflow - use

Intransitive DAG
Aloha all,
I have an adjacency matrix for an acyclic digraph that contains
transitive relations, e.g. (u,v), (v,w), (u,w). I want a DAG with only
intransitive relations. Can someone point me to an R function that will
take my adjacency matrix and give me back one with only intransitive
relations? In the example, I'd like to get rid of (u,w) and keep (u,v)
and (v,w).
All the best,
Tom

Extracting results from a median polish
Quick question from a new user to R,
How do I extract my solution of a median polish matrix from R to a spreadsheet file such as .csv?
>From my reading of my guide book (R for SPSS and SAS users version 2), I deduce that exporting a file to .csv would look like the following:
write.csv(medpolish, file ="outfilename.csv", row.names = FALSE) ,

R-alpha: A Couple of Queries
1) I have been working on making R libraries more like those in S.
I thought it might be advisable to discuss the ideas before springing
them on you. What I have done is changed things so that each library
has its own frame on the search path. E.g.

> library("eda")
> search()

pmvt problem in multcomp
Hi, all:
Two examples are shown below.
I want to use the multiple comparison of Dunnett.
It succeeded in upper case "example 1".
However, the lower case "example 2" went wrong.
In "example 2", the function pmvt return NaN, so I cannot show
this simtest result. Is there any solution?

I am trying to use the function boot of the boot package to sample from a dataframe of two character variables (N=1127). Each character variable can take five different values. Here is an example of the data:

On a fully updated Centos 7 installation, firefox tells me "Video can't be played because the file is corrupt."
VLC plays the video, but there is no sound. Is there supposed to be?

Fedora change that will probably affect RHEL
This might show up twice, I think I sent it from a bad address previously.
If so, please accept my apologies.
In Fedora 22, one developer (and only one) decided that if the password
chosen during installation wasn't of sufficient strength, the install
wouldn't continue. A bug was filed, and there was also a great deal of
aggravation about it on the Fedora testing list. So, it was

Bug in stars.R (PR#739)
Hi all,
Please let me know if this isn't the correct place to report bugs in
contributed code. Otherwise, the following code contains one additional
line and a short comment above it. The extra line of code catches the
unusual situation where a data column contains all 0 values.
The corrected code is below the signature.
Thanks for your help.

lxc containers won't start in a f24 custom install - odd cgroup fs layout observed
Hi folks
I use libvirt to programmatically spawn lxc containers
I am facing an issue when migrating from fedora23 to fedora24
I use the stock kernel and libvirt version on both deployments, i.e.:
f23: libvirt-1.2.18.3-2.fc23.x86_64 - kernel 4.5.7-202.fc23.x86_64
f24: libvirt-1.3.3.1-4.fc24.x86_64 - kernel 4.6.3-300.fc24.x86_64
First off, I need to outline that the host installation is done
