summary for negative binomial GLMs (PR#13640)
Full_Name: Robert Kushler Version: 2.7.2 OS: Windows XP Submission from: (NULL) (69.246.102.98) I believe that the negative binomial family (from MASS) should be added to the list for which dispersion is set to 1.

trouble with step() and stepAIC() selecting the best model
Hello, I have some trouble using step() and stepAIC() functions. I'm predicting recruitment against several factors for different plant species using a negative binomial glm. Sometimes, summary(step(model)) or summary(stepAIC(model) does not select the best model (lowest AIC) but just stops before. For some species, step() works and stepAIC don't and in others, it's the opposite.

Hello, I have a problem in authentification vs ads. Comparing nonlinear, non-nested models
Dear R users, Could somebody please help me to find a way of comparing nonlinear, non-nested models in R, where the number of parameters is not necessarily different? Here is a sample (growth rates, y, as a function of internal substrate concentration, x): x <- c(0.52, 1.21, 1.45, 1.64, 1.89, 2.14, 2.47, 3.20, 4.47, 5.31, 6.48) y <- c(0.00, 0.35, 0.41, 0.49, 0.58, 0.61, 0.71, 0.83, 0.98,

the arima()-function and AICc
Hi I'm trying to fit arima models with the arima() function and I have two questions. ###### ##1. ## ###### I have n observations for my time series. Now, no matter what arima(p,d,q)- model I fit, I always get n residuals. How is that possible? For example: If I try this out myself on an AR(1) and calculate the fitted values from the estimated coefficients I can calculate n-1 residuals.

nls - can't get published AICc and parameters
Hi I'm trying to replicate Smith et al.'s (http://www.sciencemag.org/content/330/6008/1216.abstract) findings by fitting their Gompertz and logistic models to their data (given in their supplement). I'm doing this as I want to then apply the equations to my own data. Try as a might, I can't quite replicate them. Any thoughts why are much appreciated. I've tried contacting the

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list. I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without modifications. How did I try it? Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock ) Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee prep-out.log The build failed at the end: Processing files: kernel-xenU-devel-2.6.9-67.0.20.EL Checking
