Question: xyplot panel configurations for Trellis package
Hi,
I am new to R community and I have a question on panel configurations in
the Trellis package.
Particularly, I have the following code:
require(lattice)
plotTable <- NULL
Date <- seq(as.Date("2006-11-01"), as.Date("2009-12-01"), by = 1)
nYear <- length(unique(format(Date,"%Y")))
plotTable$Date <- as.Date(paste(unique(format(Date, "%Y-%m")),

How to auto-scale cex of y-axis labels in lattice dotplot?
When I create a dotplot in lattice, I frequently observe overplotting
of the labels along the vertical axis. On my screen, this illustrates
overplotting of the letters:
windows()
reps=6
dat=data.frame(let=rep(letters,each=reps), grp=rep(1:reps, 26),
y=runif(26*reps))
dotplot(let~y|grp, dat)
Is there a way to automatically scale the labels so that they are not
over-plotted?
I currently do

Attempting to sync x-axis labels with grid lines in lattice bwplot
I have created a lattice bwplot that suffers from axis label
overplotting. The box plot contains grid lines, and I thought that
only plotting the labels for corresponding vertical grid lines would
not only cure the overplotting but also be more aesthetically
pleasing. Unfortunately hours of poring over manuals, documentations,
mailing list archives, and other R-related text hasn't helped.

xyplot gets overplotted by plot
Dear all,
After having set par(mfrow = c(2, 2)) and switching between plot() and
xyplot() using R 2.0.0 Patched (2004-10-13) under Windows 2000, the lattice
plot gets overplotted. I also tried this under 1.9.1 Patched (2004-09-22),
since this is the only older version I've got installed, and it did the
same thing apart from that the overplotting now starts in the opposite
lower corner.

Aligning axis values when plotting more than one graph on same axes
Dear R Users,
I am trying to plot a barchart with a line graph superimposed (using par(new=TRUE)). There are 12 bars and 12 corresponding points for the line graph. This is fine, except that I'm encountering two problems:
1) The position of the points (of the line graph) are not centred on the middle (horizontally) of each corresponding bar. In fact, whilst the first point is located on the

ggplot2 customizing a plot
Dear all,
I want some help improve my ggplot as following:
Make the plottable area with grid, so is easy one to see where each box refers to x and y values.
Add a color bar but with fixed values, that I want to specify.
How I can do those two?
Before is some code what I have tried so far.

rgl how to plot a cylinder like arrow3d?
Dear List,
I'm trying to draw vector in XYZ with rgl under use of a cylinder3d.
Therefore I scale and rotate a basis-cylinder).
However, somehow the rotation is wrong as
verified by overplotting arrow3d().
Where is my mistake?
library(heplots)
library(rgl)
# ... 2 vectors
data=data.frame(row.names=c('X','Y','Z'), x1=c(2,1,5),y=c(4,3,2))

Plotting labeled impulses: label collision
Dear all,
As you can see from the attachment I'm using R to automatically annotate
peptide fragmentation mass spectra, which are represented by impulse plots.
I'd like to poll you on approaches of how to deal as generally as possible
with the two biggest annotation issues I run into:
1) very close annotated masses (impulses) with similar y-axis dimensions -
resulting in overlapping labels

ggplot, qplot: alpha channel for colors corresponding to factor
Hi,
I have a qplot like the one in the minimal example below, except I
also have faceting like this:
qplot(jitter(Goodall),jitter(Better.adapt),colour=Second.adapt,facets=~Pol,data=d1)
and with the real data I get quite a lot of overplotting, so I would
like to add an alpha channel.
In addition, I would like to be able to control which colors are used
for each value of Second.adapt (which

overplots - fixing scientific vs normal notation in output
Moving from S-plus to R I encountered many great features and a much
more stable system.
Currently, I am left with 2 problems that are handled differently:
1) I did lots of "overplots" in S-Plus using
par(new=T,xaxs='d',yaxs='d') to fix the axes
->What is the workaround in R ?
2) In S-Plus I could fix "scientific notation" or "normal notation" in

Use of colour in plots
Dear all,
I have 3 datasets all of which share the same longitude and latitude values, which I'm looking to plot onto a scattergraph. The third dataset has values which can only be either '1' or '2'. So to incorporate all three datasets onto two axes, I'm wondering if I can plot dataset1 and dataset2 as normal, but then use colour to determine whether these points are

xlim/ylim and actual axis length
Dear plotting wizards,
when plotting in R, the actual lengths of the axes are slightly
greater than the ranges of the x/y variables or xlim/ylim values.
how do I control the amount by which the axes are enlarged? Is
there a way to enforce that the lengths of the axes equal
xlim/ylim?
example:
plot(0:100,0:100,pch="+")
it can be observed, that the x- and y-axis join at approx.

Re:Plotting to A4 and replacing x-axis with actual years.
Hie,
I have written before and probably missed the reply.
1.) I have my figures in a 3X3 array and want to fit them onto a A4 size
page. I have written commands to try a represent them in eps format but
still their cutting out information.
2.) I have an odd number of years and wanted to represent them say 1980 1985
1990 1995 2000 instead of 1 5 10 etc. However, the years are not

Overplotting: plot() invocation looks ugly ... suggestions?
Hi WizaRds,
I'd like to overplot UK fuel consumption per quarter over the course of five years.
Sounds simple enough?
Unless I'm missing something, the following seems very involved for what I'm trying to do. Any suggestions on simplifications?
The way I did it is awkward mainly because of the first call to plot ... but isn't this necessary, especially to set limits for the

no y-axis
HI @ all,
I'm looking for a simple solution to supress the y-axis - but only the drawn
scale - not the values.
Only the numbers should be displayed.
I tried yaxt="n" but there everything of the y-axis is supressed.
Thanks

again troubles with lattice
Dear r-help community,
Thank you for your previous answers!
Now I have strange behaviour of the lattice library funcitons.
They do not draw graphics in the file when called from the script.
I created the script file, called, for example, "a.R", containing
the following

Scatterplot of two groups side-by-side?
Dear all
I'm realy new to R, so I hope you can help me, as I didn't find any solution in the common books.
Since some days I'm trying to create the following plot: A scatterplott showning two different groups side-by-side with according regression lines. Both datasets only have the same five factors, so the scatters will form a kind of column at each factor. When I use
