How to source a part of the file
I have a text file of R commands. Some times I only want to run a few lines
of the R commands in an existing R session and wonder whether there is a
simple way to do this.
To run a few lines in a new session of R, I could use sed to pick up the
lines from the file and pipe them into R.
source() does not allow me to specify which lines to be included/excluded.
Is there any function that is

problem with white space
Hi,
I need to resample characters from a dataset that consists of an extremely
long string that is written over hundreds of thousands of lines, each of
length 50 characters. I am currently doing this by first inserting a space
after each character in the dataset and then using the following commands:

Importing files
Hello,
I'm trying to import into R files that contain data downloaded from logger devices as files with the following formats:
.act
.lig
.trj
.trn
These files are essentially text files but use both tabs and commas as separators.
I've tried the function scan:
1) scan("filename.act", what=character(0)) returns only two columns from the original 5
2) scan("copia.act",

par(las = 1) not possible in polymap(), library(splancs)?
Dear all,
I want my PhD thesis which I hand in tomorrow to look even nicer:
Does polymap in the splancs library not allow horizontal plotting of
y-labels? I have tried
polymap(studyarea, xlab = "x (m)", ylab = "y (m)", las = 1)
but it doesn't change the labels?
Mayby some function in library(spatstat) support las?
Thanks!

geo-replication
Hi all,
I am planning my new gluster system and tested things out in
a bunch of virtual machines.
I need a bit of help to understand how geo-replication behaves.
I have a master gluster cluster replica 2
(in production I will use an arbiter and replicatied/distributed)
and the geo cluster is distributed with 2 machines.
(in production I will have the geo cluster distributed)

Fetching a range of columns
Hello,
I realize that using: x[x > 3 & x < 5] I can fetch all elements between 3
and 5. However I read in from a CSV file, and I would like to fetch all
columns from within a range ( 842-2411). In teh past, I have done this to
fetch just select few columns:
data <- read.csv(filein, header=TRUE, nrows=320, skip=nskip)
data_filter <- data[c(2,12,17)]

remove 0 rows from a data frame
Dear all,
As part of a larger function, I am randomly removing rows from a data
frame. The number of removed rows is determmined by a Poisson distribution
with a low mean. Sometimes, the random number is 0, and that's when the
problem starts:
My data frame:

Documentation error?
Hi,
I am setting up a fileserver in an AD domain, using Samba 3.0.21b under Solaris 9. An Openldap server (version 2.3.17) is used fot the idmap backend.
Following the Samba HOWTO Collection, chapter 6, I used the statement
ldap idmap suffix = ou=idmap,dc=uppsala,dc=se
in my smb.conf. This doesn't work. When starting winbindd I get the following in the log:

Dear all,
Is it possible to somshow plot text as italic AND bold. I tried font=c(2,3)
in text(), but it doesn't work. It seems like the latter value is used.
Thanks in advance!
